He was a silver medallist at 17, is a southpaw, power is developing...he is very well schooled and actually fights like a veteran
what really stands out to me is his poise and defense. he knows how to control his man and knows when to turn it on like a fighter 10 years older than he is
he doesnt have the power of teofimo, the explosiveness of Tank, the height reach or power of Garcia, but he has skill and a strong mind.
his team is also a good fit for him....IMO he has more upside than all of them because out of all of them he is the most well rounded fighter
what are your thoughts
Vergil Ortiz would be my pick or maybe Boots Ennis, although I really like to see these young kids face a little adversity before I judge. 90% of the time it ain't their skill or talent that lets 'em down it's their resolve and resilience.
It's pure gut instinct or maybe just cos they look so damn young to me, but I ain't sure either Shakur or Ryan Garcia have the mental toughness to take 'em all the way. Can't tell you why and maybe I'm dead wrong but that's my hunch.
been following him since his early fights in mexico...did you see him and shakur spar years ago? very good work on both their ends
I did not...I’m not overly interested in watching sparring.
Don’t disagree, but I just thought he should get a shout with the names you included.

i like haney but he isnt as polished as Stevenson...he gets sloppy and makes extra moves....stevenson moves just enough to hit and not be hit fights more like a veteran

I still need to see more of Shakur against stronger opposition to determine what I think is his ceiling so to speak. He is really good but I still need to see a bit more similar to Teofimo who has been hitting the checkboxes so far.
As far as under 25 class goes. The one I see right now with the greatest potential is actually David Benavidez. He has the build to go up in weight as he gets a little older considering that he is really skinny at SMW. Plus he has the hand speed and offensive skillset to get a lot of his competition out of there if he keeps dedicated.
i like benavidez.....he has all the physical tools...wish hed use his height and reach more.....turn his shots over.
he may be the one to take over at 168, he is still a bit rawer than stevenson in my eyes they both have so much potential
Devin Haney?
