The top three fighters at heavy if still considered to include wilder (might not be top three) have been down a combined total of 14 times joshua down against Wlad and then four times against ruiz also badly rocked by whyte fury early in his career then against Cunningham and twice against wilder also badly rocked against wallin and then wilder against some fat bum early in his career (was balance) against nichols in that hidden footage and realistically three times against fury as the ropes kept him up for one knockdown that wasn’t officially counted. I can’t imagine these three will go much longer at the top? Sure one of the prospects dubois our hergovic well clear them out soon?
The top heavyweights today all have certain attributes that got them in the positions they're in but they've all shown some pretty significant flaws that make it unlikely any of them dominate the division in the same way Lewis or Wlad did.
AJ's loss to Ruiz, the way Wilder was dominated by Fury and Fury struggling with Wallin just tells me that any one of these guys can potentially lose to anyone in the top 10 if it's not their night. This just makes it more interesting, the division's in a good place now. There isn't that one dominant guy which makes for more competitive and entertaining bouts.
Yes none of them have really separated themselves from the chasing heavyweight pack entirely 'There was a point in Lewis & Kiltschko's career where? They separated themselves from the pack 'And became the bench mark for the rest of the heavyweights in terms of peak performance'.
Tyson Fury has shown glimpses of separation, but at times still looks beatable 'You get the impression that a rock solid, determined well school heavyweight' could give him issues. A fighter who does the basic's well and is big enough to just wade forward.
Tyson Fury is about of a conundrum, you just don't know what he will produce.
I think you could make an argument that today's heavyweights likely hit harder due to their increase in size when compared to fighters from the 'Iron chin days'.
Also Wilder and AJ have pretty poor defence and get hit a lot more often more cleaner, this could be the real problem here not their chin. Especially when couple with bigger HW's.
Everything is easy for Fury, might as well give him the official names on his resume since he would just breeze everyone without actually fighting them.
Seriously am a Fury fan but I feel ashamed when I read the way some people act on here like fan girls. And the saddest reality is these guys can’t see it.
All heavyweights are chinny because all heavyweights hit hard. Even the ones that don't have a high KO ratio.
Also heavyweights have gotten a lot bigger than they were in the past so it kind of goes hand in hand that they likely hit harder on "average". For instance 6'3" 220lb "Big" George Foreman is not so big compared to today's standards. He is about Oleksandr Usyk's size.
he looks solid against bums and club level fighters. Price was unbeaten when he fought at that level.
Man, everybody looks solid against bad opponents.
All I'm seeing is excuses the top three at heavy are chinny bums
It is easy to look good when you face bad competition. Man, Kownacki was stopped by a journeyman that is not even a true contender. So you actually hype Hrgovic for beating guys like Johnson, Mansour..?
Lol, top 3 might be chinny, but, man, they all beat Hrgovic, I guarantee you that. Hrgovic is big mouth without any good wins and he looks very slow.
I am not even sure Hrgovic beats Wallin. Fury beat Wallin about 10-2 in rounds.
At hw everybody is "chinny" when facing top competition. That is because how big and strong they are. Kownacki also looked safe when he fought Washington, Szpilka.
Give this Hrgovic guy somebody that can actually punch, Kiladze, Price, Helenius, Dinu. Hrgovic never faced any puncher as a pro.
Champions and top contenders at HW are highly likely to hit the floor more than those at lower weights, it's obvious, these are big strong men, that can punch hard. The human skull can only take so much. None of these are chinny. Fury has a really good chin, not Canelo, Golovkin level, but not too far off and has arguably the best recovery and recovery instinct in boxing. Wilder has a good chin, and a inner willingness to ride it out. Joshua has to this, but has slower recovery time, he was a sitting duck against Wlad for around 6 minutes, jelly legs for long times against Ruiz and shook to his boots against Whyte, also Povetkin had him dancing for a bit off a left hook. The whole HW is chinny thing is always exaggerated. Is Lewis chinny? because of his two KO losses, Foreman because Ali knocked him out? Ali down many times. It's HW boxing, these guys can bang. David Price is chinny, even in HW terms as anything that lands on him can out him in massive trouble, the other guys are not in that category.
Firtha had Fury on queer street and a soft punching Neven Pajkic was able to knock down Fury. He does recover well though.
BTW...what's your definition of "chinny"?
I just watched the Pajkic fight to remind myself. Yeah, as you say, I think the point with Fury is that although he has been knocked down, he has gotten back up and recovered very well each time
None of them are actually chinny
It’s heavyweight, the right shot can put basically anyone down. All have taken good shots that would’ve ended the fight of a chinny fighter I.e a David Price type.
AJ has poor recovery time though it seems, which may be his downfall again when he gets badly hurt, so you can call that chinny if you want I suppose. He’s taken plenty of decent shots too though.
You don’t really get to any of their levels at HW if you’re really chinny.

I suppose them being easily hurt by shots to the head and going down.

Hrgovic is a big stiff idiot, tailor made for Fury. It wouldn’t even be competitive
Fury may have been down, but he’s always fine when he’s up. That’s the difference.
