Do we place to much value in records?
I agree with your verdict of the fights, but they’re the kind of fights that you couldn’t argue too much either way
Yeah all were close, he’s very unlucky to wind up on the wrong end of the decision all three times.
Yeah I thought he beat Martinez, that was the first fight Sergio began to look old. Think I actually had the Sturm fight level and I though Abraham just beat him. He’s very unlucky not be a world champion though, had he been in the home corner you have to think at least one of those 3 would have went his way.

Strange isn’t it. On a different night with different judges, Murray might’ve had wins over Martinez, Sturm and Abraham. He beat Martinez in my opinion.
Imagine he got the decisions in those fights, which you could make a valid case for. He would have had one of the best resume’s in recent British boxing, instead of being thought of as a nearly man and forgotten
Just shows the fine line and small margins
He was underrated because of it. People look at the record and not context.

Martin Murray.

Rosado and Chisora are EXACTLY how their records read....
I’d agree with that
neither can cut it the top level, but had more opportunities than most to try. Hence the amount of losses.
I consider it a real win. He was winning the fight up to that point. Not like he was just completely getting his ass kicked, plus it’s Roy’s fault he got DQd. Lennox Lewis crushes Rahman in the rematch but doesn’t mean the first fight doesn’t count.
griffin was down on 2 scorecards by round 9 and was in the midst of taking a 10-8 round after the knee he took
HE WAS NOT WINNING the fight....
not even close to comparing lewis/rahman...not EVEN CLOSE....lewis got stopped....roy didnt...he got dq'd
To me, it'll always be Darnell Boone. Emmanuel Augustus also comes to mind.
Good shout on Augustus. Always gave just as good as he got. When he really focused he could cause real problems. Always clowned around way too much, especially later in his career.
The Hoye fight was an absolute robbery. Even the commentators said it was absolutely ridiculous and I think Griffin would’ve had a very good chance of beating Clinton Woods. Had the kind of style to trouble him. Just the fact the guy was 5-7 or 5-8 against these kind of guys and held his own gets respect from me.
Yeah I’d have definitely picked him to beat Clinton in his prime but I thought Griffin was a little bit past it by then.
He was excellent at “fighting small”, underrated technically IMO. He’s possibly RJJ’s best win at 175.
griffin DQ win over roy is hardly a real win...ko'd in rematch.....

ive always been one of boo boos biggest critics....but i also have always pulled for him since were both from RI.....but i do hate seeing on that list as "worse"...simply because im dying to see him fight someone so we can actually find out if he belongs on that list or not....i just hate watching his career because i cant tell what he is....
I’m not denying his talent. It’s just based on his record, his best win is still Vanes. It’s a shame the BJS fight fell apart that could’ve given him a very good win.
I’d like to see him fight Derevyanchenko.
I think I had him beating Harding, can’t remember the Hoye fight tbh. I think DM might have caught up with him anyway but he had swept those first 3 rounds.

Some classic examples - I’ve done guys better than their records because saying guys are overrated is the easy thing to do. This shows the importance of having a great promoter behind you, because a lot of these guys suffered in a major way because of a lack of that. Different story if they had a Eddie Hearn or Leonard Ellerbe behind them. Today’s fighters are so blessed when you think about it.
Montell Griffin - Has wins of Toney and Roy Jones Jr. Was winning every round against Michalczewski as well before the controversial stoppage, seemed like a dodgy referee to me. Plus he probably would’ve won another belt if he didn’t get straight robbed against Rico Hoye.
Emanuel Augustus - This one can’t be emphasised enough. This guy was robbed more times than I can count and always gave a great fight even in his losses. Very tough fighter.
Glen Johnson - Kind of a mixture of the other two. Some of his close losses are legit but a lot of them were super close. I’ve seen a lot of them and I might need to refresh but there’s at least 6-7 losses on his record that could easily be wins. I guess that’s the problem with being the “Road Warrior” if he had a big promoter behind him it would’ve been very different. I think I had him beating Dawson and Cloud and that was 6 years after his wins over Tarver and Roy. Gotta respect that guy despite his record. As tough as it gets.
griffin DQ win over roy is hardly a real win...ko'd in rematch.....
I thought he beat Harding and Hoye, and probably would’ve beat DM in a fair situation. He won the first 3 rounds then the ref jumped in and stopped it as soon as he got tagged. Very good fighter in his day.

How is Ruiz worse? If anything, I had him beating Parker lol
I'll throw Road Warrior Glenn Johnson in there if nobody mentioned him yet. If I can go retired fighters, I'll say Iran Barkley
I just don’t rate him... I had Parker winning tbh. Just aside from AJ, his other 32 wins aren’t impressive, I just remember Arum feeding him cans on undercards.
Barkley is a great shout, I think he finished with nearly 20 losses. 2 weight world champion and Hearns’ bogey man.
Rosado and Chisora are EXACTLY how their records read....
100% agree. Never understood how Rosado got and keeps getting so many chances. Just because he's tough? Chisora milks british fight fans like no other.

Griffin had a lot of filler but yeah beat Toney and Jones back to back and only ever lost to good fighters. Even when he was past it, he was still taking guys like Shumenov the distance.
