The Quiet Man, who was often thought of as the laughing stock of the HW division...
He had wins over:
Holyfield (plus a draw)
Golota
McCline
Oquendo
Rahman
Kirk Johnson
Tony Tucker
It was hilarious, Lampley and the boys were just constantly making snarky comments about Stone.😂😂
Didn’t he call the referee a c***sucker or something? I remember laughing my ass off watching that fight.
he was roasting them under his breathe....Roy laughing during the broadcast was the cherry on top
he was cursing that ref in his sleep that night...just stoney being stoney lmao
that cut screen to the dressing room took me out watching it live

Him watching that Golota fight on that small tv in the dressing room always makes me laugh, it’s the way he’s still going “come on Johnny” and just cursing the referee. Legend...

Holyfield might have been past his prime, but his win over Ruiz was the first time we had heard the “Holyfield is old” narrative since he beat Bobby Czyz.
The year before that fight, he was the WBA/IBF champion. The second fight with Lewis was his fight before the Ruiz trilogy and that Lewis fight was much more competitive than people like to remember.
So I think Ruiz does deserve more credit than he gets for the Holyfield win, even though I didn’t score any of those three fights for Ruiz.
Not really man... people were saying he past his prime when he fought Lewis, especially after the first fight which Lewis clearly won. It’s not like Lennox gets credit for beating a prime Holyfield.
He was very much past his prime when he fought Ruiz. He looked and fought like an old man in their second fight. People were literally calling for Holyfield to retire after Ruiz beat him. He probably should have tbh.
I wouldn't say Holyfield was "very old". It was less than a year and a half since he went the distance with Lewis when he lost to Ruiz. He was still competitive for another decade after the loss, but clearly not the best version of himself.
I'm not a Ruiz fan, but I think he beats anyone on Wilder's resume. Whether he beats Wilder is another argument that I'm not prepared to defend.
Holyfield was what 37-38? I felt he was way past his prime. I used to hate watching Holyfield lose to guys like Ruiz, Byrd, Donald etc.
I’d confidently pick Luis Ortiz to beat John Ruiz tbh. He probably beats anybody else on his resume though.
a damn legend he is...pure entertainment and he protected and went to bat for his fighters

Yeah he probably did... he beat very old versions of Holyfield and Tucker though. I thought he lost to Golota as well. Wilder’s run was nothing special but in context I’d take his career over Ruiz’s.
I’d still pick Wilder to do what Tua did to him as well tbh...

Fake style. I disregard everything Ruiz ever accomplished. He and his trainer were and still remain ATG’s when it comes to laughing stocks.
Norman Stone. What a character😂😂
