you go by ''Boxing Logic,'' so record this in your memory here forward. Boxing is a business. Title fights have the closest measures to have the shows go on, so ALL fighters have to play their part to make weight, or there are severe consequences, moreso, no PAY, and a waste of promotion. Worst case scenario, there are always standby fighters in place if one fighter affects the event. Why? Because people PAY to see a fight in advance. So let's leave HW out of this. But all fighters, particularly the ones whom are stars and really dedicated to the game, are pros, and they are always grinding to be in shape, at least in their intended class. It simply means they can't binge eat as normal heads. the same discipline is applied to RUNNERS. Even though RUNNER have HUGE legs, they have to maintain a calibrated weight to HIT their potential. 1LB in running makes a HUGE difference. Keep in mind, milliseconds is part of the game in running and finishing. Same goes for boxing. ALL BOXERS whom train and grind in the gym ARE NEVER close to the scale. Many interpret this as cheating, but that's not the case at all. The failsafe measure to assure all boxers make weight is to DRAIN water. This practice initially started so that the EVENT can go on without any sour consequences. Meaning, a multi dollar fight and sales gate would lose trust to stars failing to make weight for the TITLE shot or DEFENSE. The average DRAIN to make weight is 10lb across the board. During fight week, fighters must calibrate an average of 10lb over the limit. It's hard to do. It means during fight week the fighters are not even the FRAME during fight night. That bottleneck is remedied right when they get off the scale to splurge all nutrients to get them back a week before fight week. When you really break it down. Measure yourself on the scale before a huge dinner. You can easily add 3lb on the meal itself. If you drink lots of fluid during a meal expect even more. That's why the science isn't all that complicated to see how fighters can be huge in the ring. Sacrifice 10-15lbs of water plus 5lbs more mass from food, it's not hard to do. That's just the way it is in the game. Ironically this protocol works out because the show goes on, and both fighters are doing it. Before the Kovalev fight I was on the forum saying that Canelo will be 100% against Kovalev because there'd be no typical drain as he's going northbound PLUS his physique still looked relatively the same on vacation or in camp. That's another thing, a lot of fighters aren't 100% because they drain. A lot of the fighters that we root for hit harder in the gym than in the ring. That's because there's no weight calibration protocol that affects them. That's why Mikey was comfortable against Spence. Spence was the one deprived. Spence is really at 154 fighter vs the 140 fighter in Mikey. It balances out. THe science is there. Mikey was 100% and Spence was like 85%. It simply means Mikey was lucky to sustain a non full optimal Spence. Same goes for Kovalev vs Canelo The whole reason Bellew had a more solid chin against David Haye than he did against 175 and 200lb journeymen is because he didn't weight drain. Your punch resistance improves overnight.

You know GGG ain’t gonna do such a thing. He wanted Ward at 164lbs, Froch at 166lbs, and only willing to go up to 168 vs the easy pickings Chavez Jr. So him going up to 175, or even a catchweight between 169-174lbs, to fight the #1 ranked Light Heavyweight is a no go. I can see him going up to 175 only for an easy opponent like Chavez Jr.

Yeah I know he couldnt knock out a bunch of top 20 guys at 154, or Daniel Jacobs at 160, but hey, major plot holes like that are the Director's problem, I'm just sitting in the audience with my popcorn watching the movie, and all I know is that in the most recent Canelo movie, let's call it Episode IX just for reference, Canelo appeared to display elite LHW power vs Kovalev to both body and head, appearing to somewhat hurt him with every shot that landed in the fight, and then appearing to put Kovalev on queer straight with a single slapping shot to the side of the head to such an extent that Kovalev dropped his guard and let Canelo appear to hit him flush and knock him out with 1 punch. I'm not really an expert on boxing, but if there are any boxing historians maybe they can weigh in, would it be fair to say that maybe lightweights like Shane Mosley, and Jr Middleweights, and Middleweights in general, are simply bigger, or stronger, or more durable, than light heavyweights? There is so much weight cutting in boxing, I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation to all of this. I've never seen them side by side so I can't be sure, but based on what I saw in the ring, I'd guess Shane Mosley is actually a lot bigger and stronger than Sergey Kovalev, am I right? That could definitely explain how Canelo appeared more powerful at 175 than he did at 154, in which case, the same could apply to GGG. GGG is closer to being a lightweight than Beterbiev is, so I think that puts him in a much better position to be a dominant light heavyweight than Beterbiev. To be clear, I am not associating LHW, or Kovalev, or Beterbiev, with "darkness" in any way, I just mean going from closer to lightweight, to light heavyweight, sort of creates a doubling effect in a way, "stacking". It's not that the light heavyweight division on its own doesn't equally have "light" written in its title as lightweight does, I mean it's considered one of the strongest divisions in boxing right now for a reason same as lightweight is. But if you can combine two of something powerful, rather than just one, that's a huge advantage. GGG being a career middleweight, which is almost halfway in between both divisions, he is ideally placed to perfectly balance and take advantage of both and use that combination to become undisputed light heavyweight champion, that is, if he can get by Canelo at light heavyweight in a 4th fight after "knocking out" Beterbiev. But that's for a future discussion once we get there. My point right now is, I think we could see a complete resurgence in GGG's dominant performances if the Beterbiev fight were made at light heavyweight. Or lightweight, honestly. If Shane Mosley could make lightweight, and if Mosley is bigger than Kovalev, and if Beterbiev and Kovalev are about the same size, then Beterbiev could probably make it too. Light weight is already a really interesting division, but add Beterbiev and GGG to the mix, even old Beterbiev and GGG, and you'd really have something special. Although honestly, I think Beterbiev at light weight would be kind of unfair, just because the same principle of doubling up or stacking would apply. But it's "boxing," so anything can happen. Put that show on TV, I'd watch it.
