AEW is a new promotion only a few months in. They have done well but haven’t really grown their audience. Taking a month or two off could really damage them so they are doing what they have to do.
As others have said WWE has a billion dollar deal with Fox and a big contract with USA so a live crowd or paid attendance is not that big of a deal.
They have a TV deal to honor and merch to sell.

When he bought WCW and ECW, but refused to pay the top stars to come in immediately and feud with the top WWF guys.
He let guys like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Sting, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, etc sit at home because Warner Bros was paying them too much for him to want to match.
Instead we got him turning the other top WCW stars into clowns (DDP and Booker T) and of all the ECW guys, only Rob Van Dam got a fair shake. Rhino was the unified ECW World Heayweight and World Television champion when he came into WWF and he was immediately turned into just another guy.
Instead of getting to see the top talent from all three companies in the biggest dream matches of all time, we got to see the top WWF guys completely bury all the WCW and ECW guys to feed Vince's ego.
Wrestling companies don't care about their fans at all. Especially not Vince McMahon. He has spent the last 20 years actively crapping all over his fanbase. Bob Arum is a saint compared to Vince McMahon. Only Don King even comes close to comparing to that carny bastard.
The reason WWE and AEW are doing this is because they have TV deals with Fox, NBC Universal, and Warner Bros respectively which demand a certain number of hours of live content per year.

The Rock is a third generation wrestler and he's related in one way or another to literally dozens of other pro wrestlers, including some legendary figures like King Haku, his father Rocky Johnson, Rikishi, Yokozuna, etc. The predators generally target people that are trying to break into the business, like ringboys (they used to hire 13-20 year old males to assemble and take down the rings before and after shows), people fresh out of wrestling school, people with no contacts in high places, people whose next meal depends on their WWE paycheck.
100% correct. Can't forget the guy who started it all, his Grandfather High Chief Peter Maivia.
Pat Patterson was a big factor in launching The Rock's career. Hmmmm.

He's a monster.
He helped Jimmy Snuka get away with murder, straight up.
He helped Pat Patterson and his buddies get away with sex crimes against minors and against adult subordinates, then rehired him and still employs him to this day.
He sexually harassed and then raped a female ref in the early 90s, paid her hush up money, and didn't hire another female ref for over 20 years. Then he had a separate harassment allegation in 2006 by a worker at a tanning salon.
He has put blackface acts on television multiple times, including with his own son-in-law in on this side of the new millennium.
He's one of the scummiest people in all of real/fake fight sports, and that's saying something.

Big mistake. What makes wrestling popular isn't the matches. It's everything else like the promos, the ring walks, the music, the fireworks. and most importantly the fans selling the moves with their reactions from the seats farther away. Take that all away and its pretty boring and insulting to the intelligence as all there is to see is a fake fight with coreographed moves that are repeated in many matches. It's like a famous singer doing a whole concert without instruments or lighting or a rapper without a drum beat, bass, or the record player schtick. Nothing to it.

There was a great new one based out of Ohio called Chaos for pro wrestling. They signed a deal with Facebook and had worldwide live streaming. Instantly got bought out.
They already did this on Shobox from Minnesota last Friday and then UFC in Brazil the next day. Worked out fine.
I actually enjoyed watching it, hearing the directions from the corner clearly was an interesting aspect IMO.

Tbf to WWE though they’ll be losing a lot of money having WM behind closed doors instead of delaying it and putting it in front of a live crowd and that’s not part of their TV deal is it? Isn’t that just broadcast on their Network.
I doubt any boxing promoter would cancel a stadium fight and put it on behind closed doors and miss out on the gate.
Seems like boxing promoters are too greedy to miss out on the live gate.
At least wrestling companies care about their fans.
