I mean he got blown out by hatton (body shots) he was in there with the great Diego corrales, arguably beat pbfm the best of his era and he was the chief sparring partner for jcc. Not to go against the late great Manny steward, Lord bless, but what do you guys think? Or is he a waste of talent who could've achieved much more but lost it on the scales??
I see a lot of posters insist that Cotto is not an ATG, so if they don't think Cotto was, I can't fathom how they can consider Castillo.
Right. I guess it all depends on how big of a net u want drag. But if it catches Castillo it definitely catches Cotto like I said. I think Cotto is an ATG. He had sum exciting fights coming up, and exciting fights in his prime. He wasent personable like Trinidad was, but that just proves how everyone tuned in because of his ring work.
The most impressive thing he ever did one way or another was lose a Million dollars on the scale. Wasent even close.

Right.
And who has a better resume at Lightweight from that era?
I’m saying the resume is a tool in the atg discussion, but not the be all end all. If I don’t think Castillo would fare well heads up vs other great fighters, his resume isn’t going to change that. I respect Castillo and his accomplishments, but I believe he’s a tier below the very best, which is why it’s difficult to call him an atg. Maybe I’m being too picky...it’s a fine line I guess. Anyway, your point is taken and valid, because at the end of the day, it’s a subjective topic.

Agreed. And Muhammad Ali is not an ATG because he got "blown out" by Larry Holmes.
I’m not sure it’s solely based on resume. To me the term atg means a fighter would be “great” in any era. We quantify that by comparing resumes and accomplishments.
Right.

No he isn’t. Three solid wins to his credit, four if you count the Floyd robbery.

Ok but that isn't how ATG lists are usually ranked, are they?
It's usually and certainly in my case based on resume
And I can't name 20 better than Castillo, so, that's an ATG lightweight.

Is this going to be like when Canelo fans say "if you look at the punches, subtract jabs, times two for body...and Canelo threw more!"
because...yeah
Just look at the punch stats lol. No need for alegra
Floyd castillo 1 was like 70/30 castillo. Watch the fight again and look at the punch stats.

If we go by the actual media press row scorecards then no it was 50-50.
Sure, but head to head, what atg lw fighters would you pick Castillo over?

You don't compare those two fights to a 50/50 fight like Floyd/Castillo.
Lara beat Williams like 11-1

At 135 yes ans let’s not forget he did kO corralles in the rematch.
Yeah, but that first fight took years off both guys lives. I don't even think Diego won a fight after that war, did he?
