Is Jose Luis Castillo an atg?

He has a lot of losses on his record to be an ATG. Several in his prime.

I see a lot of posters insist that Cotto is not an ATG, so if they don't think Cotto was, I can't fathom how they can consider Castillo. Right. I guess it all depends on how big of a net u want drag. But if it catches Castillo it definitely catches Cotto like I said. I think Cotto is an ATG. He had sum exciting fights coming up, and exciting fights in his prime. He wasent personable like Trinidad was, but that just proves how everyone tuned in because of his ring work.

Right. And who has a better resume at Lightweight from that era? I’m saying the resume is a tool in the atg discussion, but not the be all end all. If I don’t think Castillo would fare well heads up vs other great fighters, his resume isn’t going to change that. I respect Castillo and his accomplishments, but I believe he’s a tier below the very best, which is why it’s difficult to call him an atg. Maybe I’m being too picky...it’s a fine line I guess. Anyway, your point is taken and valid, because at the end of the day, it’s a subjective topic.

I mean he got blown out by hatton (body shots) he was in there with the great Diego corrales, arguably beat pbfm the best of his era and he was the chief sparring partner for jcc. Not to go against the late great Manny steward, Lord bless, but what do you guys think? Or is he a waste of talent who could've achieved much more but lost it on the scales?? Agreed. And Muhammad Ali is not an ATG because he got "blown out" by Larry Holmes. :rolleyes:

Of course he is. He gave the GOAT the closest fight in his career. That's something canelo, manny, corrales and hatton couldn't do.

You don't compare those two fights to a 50/50 fight like Floyd/Castillo. Lara beat Williams like 11-1 Floyd castillo 1 was like 70/30 castillo. Watch the fight again and look at the punch stats.
