Who said robbery ? Certainly not me. It was a close battle. I said that Pietrzykowski should have won. At least it should have been a draw. Rather not Clay's win. That's all.
well should have won means you think he was robbed of a win.
no games here today please. thx.
Well, what about the power punches statistics, that so popular today ? Pietrzykowski landed several of them while Clay practically noone. Pietrzykowski won first two rounds, while Clay won the last. It should be at least a draw.
P.S. Watch this fight with muting this stupid comments. Watch the fight silent, please.
Cassius Clay won both of the first two rounds in my opinion. Maybe the second round was sort of close I guess?
And there's no question who won the 3rd.
Boxing usually isn't scored just on power punches. And especially not amateur boxing.
This doesn't seem controversial at all to me. :dunno:
I'm not sure about in the early 60's but your reasoning doesn't matter in amateur bouts.
Whatever. Pietrzykowski won two rounds closely while losing the third clearly. Clay, as American, was heavily favoured by judges. Usually, Americans and Cubans were usually heavily favoured in amateur battles.

so how is a robbery a draw now?

I'm not sure what fight you were watching but Clay clearly won that bout?
Pieterzykowski can barely land a punch and misses badly several times. He is losing on points going into the 3rd round where he finally opens up and has some moments...but then Clay pours it on.
I see no robbery there.

true no sign of it - what you can see, my friend, is half a century of blatant butthurt.
Noone commenting lol ? If Clay had lost this gold medal there could be hundreds of comments stating that Clay was better, lmao.

A good vid, although too short and the music sucks. I am emotionally connected to two events:
1. in 1968 when Foreman won the gold medal; he knocked out everyone except our own Polish Lucjan Trela (who died not so long ago); Trela was the man who evoked my, a small kid's, interest in boxing in the late 60-ies; he was only 173 cm high (5,8") and caused a lot of trouble for normal height HW fighters and also made lots of trouble to Foreman who won 4:1 with two draws for Foreman(!!!); Foreman remembered this small Pole forever and there are a special YT vid about Big G coming to Poland on Trela's invitation (never happened though);
2. In 1960, my Dad told me about it later, Cassius Clay fought Zbigniew Pietrzykowski in the final; the same Pietrzykowski who being a lad knocked out Laszlo Papp in light weight; in the opinion of many, Pietrzykowski won that final; everyone can see it because there is a vid from all 3 rounds on YT.
P.S. Also remember to this day Jerzy Kulej's two subsequent gold olympic medals; it does not happen often, especially outside HW.
