I will probably be watching all the fights but my curiosity lies mostly with the Chirosa/Usyk fight honestly. I know Usyk is a player in the division I just wanna see to what degree. If Chirosa has a good showing I think an upset is possible.
For what it’s worth, my view in order:
Usyk vs Chisora (5/5) - looking forward to this one. Can Usyk really fight as a heavyweight, this should give us all a really good gauge given we know Chisora has fought a good number of opponents top end. Prediction: Usyk win round 8
Whyte vs Povetkin (5/5) - again a really curious fight for me. I think Povetkin is under rated by many, but his last fight did leave some logic to those saying he is no passed it. He started well against AJ before being clinically finished. This should be a good comparator for us to see if Whyte is right up there near the top3? Prediction: Whyte win on points
Fury vs Wilder3 (4/5) - as much as the last fight was one sided I can still see a way for wilder to win. Fury has never been so over rated as he is now, wilders career is arguably on the line in the same way that Joshua’s was with Ruiz. Prediction: wilder win mid rounds by KO
Joshua v Pulev (4/5) - Pulev is another under rated fighter for me. Given how Joshua fought in the last fight, really intrigued if he can revert to his knock out ways against an opponent who is of decent level. The fact some are criticising his mandatory opponent probably speaks high for AJ’s level of opponents so far.. Prediction: Joshua KO round 4
Joyce vs Dubios (3/5) - good fight to see who can move on and take on a bigger name. That this is low in my list speaks more about the other fights as I’m intrigued how this one goes. Prediction: Dubios on points
Kownacki vs Helenium (2/5) - this is weakest in my view, partially because I’m British of course. Will be good to see how good Kownacki is against helenius, who a number others have fought. If he can step up he needs to be winning this one inside the distance. Prediction: Kownacki on points
We still have the likes of Parker, Miller, Hunter, Ortiz, Ruiz - all could be put into good fights too!!
Looking forward to them all. Kownacki v Helenius down at the bottom of the list obviously but I'll watch that too.
I was thinking today where this HW era could end up rating.
We all look back fondly on the 90s but in reality we didn't get the best fights that should have been made. There was good depth but at the very elite level we were forced to consider a faded Tyson to make a 3 and unfulfilled potential to get a 4th elite fighter (Bowe).
We could have Wilder, Fury and Joshua facing off in their prime. All big heavyweights. All champions of note.
Pulev, Parker, Whyte, Ruiz, Ortiz all provide a solid supporting cast.
Then we have Dubois coming through. I reckon the Joyce fight is 50/50 but Dubois with massively more potential. Credit to him taking this fight.
And who the hell knows what Usyk can be for a couple of years.
What an era this could be! How good are the fights that are coming up? And they're just appetisers!
wilder & joshua should be fighting each other.
One fighting pulev while the other forces a rematch with a guy who just easily beat him is pretty boring.
Povetkin and Pulev should be fighting each other, interesting style clash between two past-peak eastern Euros who never met when they should have.
So for me the most interesting is Usyks debut against a known heavyweight just so we can see where he's at.
They're all buildup fights but that has the most future significance.
Kownacki vs. Helenius because I am Pole, not because it will be a great battle. A great battle is surely Joyce vs. Dubois. Also Chisora vs. Usyk is interesting for me just to see if Usyk is strong enough for HW which I doubt.
