How rampant is it? It creeps into boxing discussions and seems to polarize American fans.
Are Americans aware that racism is not even a fraction of the problem.in UK as it is in the states as it pertains to sport. It is dealt with very seriously. It's not cool.
For example, in January two football supporters were banned from attending games for 5 years for making racist comments.
American police are extremely bad for profiling young black men - I get that, so I understand why Americans may think the rest of the world is like that also.
Your cops are utterly medieval, and then you have a president who is pretty backward in his views, moronic too. (Surely he doesnt get many black.votes?).
All this to say- that when engaging Americans in boxing talk, I am often surprised how accusations of racism come up out of the blue.
I saw two men fighting on Saturday night - I think many Americans saw a black man and a white man.
Let's eliminate that attitude in boxing, on both sides of the pond.
Yeah, so my generation and many generations back have nothing to do with any kind of 'racial injustice' that you speak of. Prejudice? Maybe, but everyone is prejudice and there's good reason to be. If you see a thug a$$ guy with a hoodie walking toward you and you become defensive over it and guard your wallet and phone tighter, that's being prejudice.
Slavery ended 150 years ago too so nobody and nobodies grandparents who are still alive were slaves either. That's just an excuse to do whatever the f#ck you want to do. It's not like people don't have choices. The way that you have responded is my exact point. The vast majority of black people in the USA are racist. Not prejudice, but flat racist! I get that it was passed along from previous generations but holding people responsible for things that their ancestors may have did is still wrong. If that's the case I could hold black people responsible for the Crusade wars when it had nothing to do with me lol
That’s cool and all, so why so many white peoples look at colored people with dirty looks everyday everywhere? If we gonna speak on the subject, what tf is it still going on? It’s been over 150 years ago but white people still don’t see or view colored people as equal and as a matter of fact they think they are above everyone else... just because they are white and everyone else isn’t.... it’s true. It is what it is, like I said before I’m a law abiding citizen, and wether anyone likes my skin color or appearance or speech or anything I don’t give a sh.it... kiss my ass
Very true, right is right. Slavery was wrong, but that was along time ago, and we need to move past it at some point. White people perpetuating racism is wrong, just like black stoking the fires of history is too. You know, realistically, all we can do, is to treat people like people and hope other people do too.
Agree with you bro, So why the dirty look from whites at the store? Happens everyday
Sure. One of the African American youtuber’s I occasionally listen too gave himself a similar excuse for being racist. He’s racist often but I just overlook it for the boxing info, but what he was recently after going on another racist rant was that he was allowed to, and he’ll be allowed to for at least 400 years or how many years blacks were slaves in America.
I get the idea, but an eye for an eye doesn’t work. You gotta let it go eventually. If you’re gonna be only pro black and go on racist rants, you’re just urging others to treat you the same. Let it go. Or at least don’t make it so obvious, it’s a bad look.
Agree you have to let it go, it’s just easier for one group then the other
It seems to have come back into prevalence during the Obama administration. If you remember, BLM and some police shootings, as well as Kaepernick and his "protest" all gained national attention in 2015 and 2016
Yup, just at the time when the demo-rats knew that a black man was not going to be in the white house any longer regardless of which party won the election. It's pitiful too because it's all based on lies anyways.
nice false equivalency but one thing led to the other. they are not equals. the white racism led to the current structure of our entire country. it was literally built on racism and racist labor. it wasn't built on black people being mad about history. its kind of strange to say "well all that happened but everything is equal now!" its like playing a baseball game and one team gets spotted 10 runs to start. ok lets play! who do you think will be "winning" after a couple innings? probably the team that started with more no? now factor in the team with the lead essentially controls the umpires and rules of the game as well(political power)
you literally couldnt even buy a house in a white neighborhood until the fair housing act in the 1960's so who ended up with most of the wealth after slavery and since? wasnt black people and as we all know wealth makes more wealth and lack of wealth leads to crime etc... so over time thats why we see such a huge stratification in wealth/poverty/crime based on demographics.
it also doesnt help that over the last 50 years the government and right politics have pursued policies that have further stratified things when it comes to income inequality. this in turn disproportionately affects minority groups since they have less to start on average. these are things that structural racism is built on. they might not seem racist and maybe they arent. maybe its just greed. the reasons dont matter but the affects do and they are real.
So let me get this straight. Your argument is that because something happened 50, 100, 400 years ago, that it makes it right to teach your children to hate another race? Really?!
So, if a black man Rob's me, that gives my grandson a free pass to rob a black man?
That’s because they are tired of being oppressed and being victims of racial injustice... so they get upset and make wrong choices... how would you like to be a slave? Or have your parents and grandparents tell you stories of the sh.it they had to go theough all because of this specific group of people, and now you have to live in society in the middle of all those same people and one of them looks at you dirty because of your skin color? Y’all whites were phucked up! Many still are..

Why the F#CK is this thread even allowed on this forum when it has F#CK to do with Boxing!
Do Better Boxing Scene Forum! Since CBS Sports took over this Website/Forum it has gone to complete SH#T! A bunch of Mentally Ill People trolling and taking their frustrations with their own lives out on Boxers. This place is not mature enough to discuss certain things and a Topic on Race is one of them because it always go sideways every time
Time to Start IP Banning People Already! Enough Already! Keep it Boxing or F#ck Off elsewhere!
Having a discussion about racism.is not racism.

Almost 350 million people in this country. If every time somebody does something or says something racist it disappoints you, get used to disappointment. There are racists in every corner of the planet and we got our share but believe me, compared to 40 years ago, things have improved.
Also, social media gives a lot these idiots a safe platform, making it seem worse than it is. At least that's my take.
There's a very good reason that Black Americans are profiled in the USA. With only making up only 13% of the population, they are responsible for over half of the overall crime and about 90% of the violent crimes. That's where the term 13/90 comes from. More white criminals are shot by police than black when they commit approx. the same amount of overall crimes. You don't see white people acting like there's a problem based on the facts because one should be responsible for their actions. If you run, attack, resist and threaten law enforcement you are greatly increasing your chances of being injured by law enforcement. Remember, they are also people who have to make it home to their families at the end of the day as well. Just like anyone else, if you present them with an ultimatum of their life or yours, almost anyone will choose their own life every time.
and if you walk away and get shot in the back thats ok? if you reach for your license and get killed thats ok? we have seen the videos. the police dont have to be responsible for their actions as most of the time they are never charged and even if charged are not convicted. the people getting killed aren't people with families?
Compared to their numbers in the overall population, an unarmed black man is about four times more likely to be killed by police than an unarmed white man." these are unarmed people and philando castillo was considered "armed" when they murdered him since he had a gun on him but wast even holding it so the numbers dont really tell you the whole story. the police are clearly out of control but then again so is america so maybe its fitting?
It’s not your people’s generation is it? You won’t ever understand and to be fair I won’t either because I’m not black but I can only imagine... what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong bro... slavery was wrong, the blacks haven’t fully healed, and the whites don’t help

So you hear a black guy calling guys ******s and s..cs.
But how many of those black guys have hopped in pick up trucks and lynched and hung white folks just going about their business?
How many of those black guys sprayed white folks with waterhoses just for peaceful protesting?
I'll await your answer, Billy........
Actually black people kill white people way more often than the other way around in this country. You're out here crying about dogs and hoses from 50 years ago meanwhile black people are the biggest perpetrators of interracial violence out of any race by far. Stop watching CNN you are brainwashed.
Please name a place in the US where racism is not an issue.
It’s an issue because of the whites! And they don’t like to hear that sh.it but it’s the truth!
I grew up in the bay area in California and my parents, me my sisters moved back to the UK when I was 16. I can honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that the UK is much more racist than California, so you have to first not generalise because America is a big country and in many states they are much more progressive than the UK and the rest of Europe. B yes there are states where racism is still rife and it's a big problem...bigger than Eastern Europe? Debatable.
Your post is extremely ignorant for the most part, just because Wilder tried to play up the black-white angle doesnt mean anything. Wilder comes from one of 'those' states where there is quite a lot of racism and I'm imagining lots of young black kids still get that in school etc that leaves mental scars even as adults. Does that make him right? No. Do I understand his sensitivity? Yes.
But there are BIG parts of the US where racism is not an issue, there is more social integration, more mixed race marriages, and it's generally a non-factor. The UK and media from other countries try to focus on the southern states and extreme racism sometimes to make themselves feel better and say "hey we are better" when the reality is, we are much less evolved as a country when it comes to racism. We are only really scratching the surface and its starting to become an open conversation.
So yes overall I agree, posters here and the boxing community should look past these factors...but dont get on your high horse and generalise an entire country based on news reports, and whatever limited experience you have.
Lastly I think racism is wrong, but supporting a fighter from a similar ethnic background or country is not wrong. So you should be careful and be able to distinguish this before you call someone racist. I support British boxers, and sportsman as a proud Brit, but i dont feel that should be held against me, and that doesnt stop me from liking other fighters either. Miguel Cotto is one of my All time fav fighters for example, and I'm a big Andre Ward fan because he where I grew up is about 20 mins from where he grew up.
Please name a place in the US where racism is not an issue.
So basically, to have an older generation indoctrinating hatred into the younger generation
It’s not your people’s generation is it? You won’t ever understand and to be fair I won’t either because I’m not black but I can only imagine... what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong bro... slavery was wrong, the blacks haven’t fully healed, and the whites don’t help
That's about the biggest crock of sh#t I've ever heard.
The vast majority of white's don't even think that way anymore. It's people like you who keep that lie alive as an excuse for your own inadequacies and shortcomings.
Just own up to your mistakes and actions!
I love how all this garbage came back since a half black man is no longer in the white house. None of this sh#t was a problem when Obama was in office. You've been duped by media and democratic propaganda.
You're a puppet.
It's pathetic
