You’re acting like Smith should be deflated for some reason. Like he got beat pillar to post. Salido lost to Gamboa then wrecked Lopez right after. Lomachenko lost to Salido then beat Russell jr. Right after. Smith is still the same fighter, he’s not deflated from the fight with Ryder, and likely shows up better vs Canelo. A note. Do you know how many southpaws Callum Smith has faced in his career? One prior to Ryder. And that’s what it looked like, he hadn’t a clue how to fight a southpaw. He’s not likely affected(like Wilder getting wrecked by Fury), he still has the “W” over Ryder and the belt so I don’t know wtf they are cherrypicking when he’s still arguably the #1 SMW. Saunders on the other hand has done **** all ever, never done anything as impressive as what Smith did to Groves, nullified, dominated and KO’d. And he’s been looking like sht against bums. I’d have to study Saunder’s(the misery), but I’ve veiwed it going like deathofaclown said, Saunders would be a nothing fight, he’ll run around, doing fuk all, I doubt he really wins, but all he has to do is make it a non-event with the 1-2 jabs to separate them for him and the canelo haters to cry robbery afterwards when the real travesty will be a shtshow of a fight, not to mention that Saunder’s brings no real worth. No clue why people prop the guy up so much. Not as good as Fury. I certainly saw Smith get dominated man. And I do feel a bit bad for Canelo...at 168, there isn't anyone there now who I really want to see him fight...Plant and Saunders are both spoilers where afterwards, Canelo people would say he won...Canelo haters would say he lost...and then me and a few others would watch the fight and maybe score it and see who won. I would prefer to see him with Andrade Charlo or GGG at 168...or even taking on someone at 175...would even pretty Eubank honestly, or Derevy. Those fights just interest me personally more than Smith...Eubank for example at least has a personality to sell the fight...Derevy would be interesting after the GGG fight..Andrade and Charlo have some buzz there. Yeah just not excited about Smith really.

Call it a cherry-pick or you can use different terminology if you want...but it is, as you said, a case of Canelo trying to get a scalp and acclaim, with the victory on paper looking better than it really is in actuality. Don’t give up thinking GGG won both fights! lol Lol I don't have to give up anything man...I watched them and scored them for who I saw to be the better man...you should try scoring fights like that sometime, rather than just trying to find ways to get your favorite guy the round...it's fun man.

Also, Saunders is trained by Davison who advises defensive tactics, which is not exactly the best way to approach a fight with Canelo in USA, looking for a points win. But Saunders isn’t going to stop Canelo even he fought more aggressively and probably wouldn’t win that way anyway because it’s not his game. I dunno, i just think Saunders v Canelo is a better fight anyway in terms of troubling Canelo, stylistically. Even if BJS lost a debated decision, his stock would go up. I don’t see anything in Callum’s skill set to suggest he can beat or even have a close fight with Canelo. It's kind of hard to call isn't it..BJS tends to fight to the level of his opposition...and has had some poor performances in the last few years...but on his day he is great. And I would have said Smith was number 1 at 168 as well...until this last fight with Ryder, so I really can't put him there anymore and have to drop his stock a good bit. Not a terrible fight...I'm just not really excited about it. To be fair, I can't think of a very exciting fight for Canelo now other than something at 175..or GGG or maybe Benevidez..or Charlo or Andrade would be good too actually. I don't even really hate on Canelo, imo anyway lol...with BJS I just would hate to watch a fight where he outworks Canelo and maybe deserves a 7-5 win, only for Canelo to win 8-4 on the cards...I just can't get excited about watching it. And after Smith's recent fight I am not excited about that one either at the moment.

Smith can not afford to give up a single ounce. He looked emaciated and weak without an a-side clause against Ryder. Against Canelo he'll barely have the strength to take his check to the bank.

Would much prefer to see him fight Saunders. Still not really sold on Smith and his last fight did nothing to help that. At least Saunders is a stylistic test for Canelo. As inconsistent as Saunders can look (like Fury), he would’ve been 100% v Canelo and give Canelo a style he hasn’t faced since he struggled with Lara. Smith has no attributes to trouble Canelo in my opinion. You’re going to need a bit more than just height and reach for that job. Smith is way too textbook and upright. Easy fight for Canelo.
