Floyd Mayweather Jr. sends positive note to Deontay Wilder after first loss

I don't get the comments in this thread, actually a nice thing for Floyd to put out there publicly since Wilder is well.....probably feeling like **** physically and emotionally right now after what happened. Pretty classy by Floyd. Classy or self-indulgent? Floyd and his fans invested so much in remaining undefeated at all costs. It is the primary bragging right that they hinge his legacy upon. Look what happens to other fighters who lose their precious “0”. Suddenly their fan base cools off or they are ridiculed. They couldn’t wait to celebrate losses by GGG, Kovalev, amd still ride Loma for losing to Salido in his second pro fight. Hypocrites.

Floyd beat Pacquiao. It's time to accept it and get over it. Don't delude yourself the way Wilder is right now. Maybe in your book a jab here and there and clinching and running is a victory, but not mine. You can’t win fights running or hiding, you have to actually engage. In the UFC fighters like that get boo’d out of the arena. That’s why you don’t see it happen and if it does, the fighter is HEAVILY criticized. In that particular case it was someone Floyd dominated against an undefeated knockout artist who some said would beat Floyd. If Canelo wins a Cruiserweight title, Floyd will be ringside to say, "Canelo is an all time great, he's a tough competitor, but let's not forget, Floyd Mayweather is the only guy to beat Canelo." Nothing wrong in giving support when you lose, you get support when you win from all quarters. It’s when you lose that people neglect you and Mayweather recognising this is actually a great thing.

But if I remember correctly, Wilder thought Floyd should have thrown his support behind him as the new star of boxing that would carry the torch for the sport now that Floyd was retired. Tank Davis is the one that Floyd is financially invested in himself, so he wasn't going to get behind Wilder as the new star.
