still lacking behind the US, on the large scale of talent but we do seem to produce a high level of good fighters for such a small population - in comparison.
But also we churn out talented footballers, and our premier league is the best league in the world, and we won the cricket World Cup, and should have won the rugby World cup. I guess it all comes down to grass roots and the money and education that is given to our athletes
Aye precisely, essentially, because of austerity (our country going down the drain over the last few decades) has naturally produced a generation with a higher percentile of rougher, hungry, f'd off young lads, they put that energy in the right place, with a solid, very solid amateur and grassroots coaching you've got a recipe the make some very good fighters, boxing and mma too.
Up north, almost every other lad has done some sort of fighting for a handful years plus, and I bet there's plenty tough spots down south too.
Hard times breed hard men,as long as they have support and given direction when young.
So thank you Conservative government for s.hitting all over us regular folk lol. But it's been gradual over the last 25-30 years.
Times a tough for all!
Preach bro. Just hope once labour finally get back in the boxing doesn't suffer lol
Nba, nfl, mlb. Most americans watch boxing 2 or 3 times a year when its a ppv and trendy. Plus pay is very low compared to other sports except for the few cash cows. Crawford makes less in a year than most mlb relief pitchers.
Imo, the last 20-25 years in the UK, the numbers of people that live in poverty /low income have increased, more people from adverse backgrounds to choose from, hunger.
Then I think we just have our fair share of trainers at grassroots level that are very good at what they do.
Great Britain may of not been the most successful county (not sure of numbers) but they must be up there in regards of numbers of medals won in boxing the last 3/4 Olympics. So there's a solid amateur base proofs in the pudding.
So add them two paragraphs together and it's something along them lines is my take on it as a brit.
Agreed. A lot of people struggling in UK so the working class kids that box are always gonna have a bit of that fire and hunger.
Wealthier lads that like sport would probably want to go in to Rugby, Cricket etc. Working class lads have football and boxing. In USA they have NFL & NBA taking away a lot of the bigger guys that would otherwise be 175lbs++ fighters.
The UK is tiny in comparison to most other countries, yet we keep producing champions
Unsung ordinary people running boxing clubs right through the country. And our weather is **** so there’s nothing better to do 🤣
