The number 1 person that comes to mind is Andrew Golota. Andrew had the size and skills to have been a solid heavyweight champion. He had a terrific jab, and could throw elite combinations, always finishing with the left hook. A true pedigree, fluid and loose and could also take a decent punch. But he squandered all that talent by not being able to control himself in the ring. If a talent like him were around today the one that beat up Bowe and minus the fouling part I believe he'd be able to clean up the division.
Fight me but I say Ruslan Provodnikov. When he fought tim he showed that he had power, toughness, a near unlimited gas tank, and was more than eager to exchange. Even in the loss he established himself as a fearsome offensive juggernaut so the potential was there. Unfortunately it seems like Ruslan fell too much in love with his power and he lost three key fights he should have won, losing to Algieri, Mattyhese, and Molina. I hate to say it but it looks like Ruslan got mentally lazy and focused only on power.
Zab Judah
Joan Guzman
Edwin Valero
I wouldn't say that Zab was wasted talent at all. He was a 140 lb. Champion multiple times and a unified welterweight champion as well. Lost most of his big fights but had some nice wins in there. Agree with Guzman and Valero.
wouldn't wasted potential be a guy who is done or pretty much at the end of his career???
not necessarily.
wasted talent meaning this guy could getting a hell of a lot more experience if hes fighting guys his own level.
arum keeps giving him easy fights, there will be no room for improvement.
Tony Ayala but he would have been clobbered by Mike McCallum, Duran, and Leonard. He made a few bucks after prison life though with a few TV spots for his fights. A Faded Yuri Boy Campus sealed his fate.
Tyrell Biggs was a huge disappointment to everyone who watched him as an amateur. Unlike Tyson, who at least had a few good pro years before partying his talent away. Tyrell started the party early.
Emmanuel Augustus.
If he'd had good management (hell, any management) a consistent trainer, and resources for proper training, he'd have been world champion. The corruption of the sport broke his will and he stopped caring about winning.
Of my generation...
Joel Julio- looked at as the next Trinidad and was supposed to put Colombia on the map.
Andre Dirrell- so much natural talent, but never became champion even in a era where belts are given away. Shame he fought with so little heart
James Kirkland- was a wrecking ball southpaw but kept going to prison and was never the same after beating Joel Julio
Ibeabuchi- had it all but went to prison
Victor Ortiz- had all the physical gifts but had a bully mentality. When the going got rough he caved in
shakur stevenson.
this kid has so much more potential for growth but arum keeps feeding him taco vendors to pad his record.
He’s an undefeated world champion within like 13 fights bro.
If Michael Nunn didn’t go down a bad path he could’ve been a GREAT fighter but he still had a good career so saying he wasted his potential is a little harsh.
If Ike Ibeabuchi didn’t go to prison he could’ve definitely made a splash in the HW division.
I was going to say Bojado but I'm not sure, he looked great but folded vs Rubio. Mentally, probably more effed up than Ortiz.
Definitely. He looked a supreme prospect.
