From Ward in 2013:
"As for me and Golovkin, look at my body of work. I'll fight anyone out there. But look at his body of work and look at mine. There is no comparison. I fought the last three years with no break. I've been in grind mode. Let him build up his resume, get a body of work first, then we can talk."
For the record, Ward's next 4 fights after those comments were vs Rodriguez Brand Smith and Barrera.
In any event I don't really see how anyone can spin those comments from Ward into him wanting the fight with GGG, and then GGG somehow not wanting it at or around that time.
We know HBO reportedly sat Ward and GGG down in 2013 and GGG said he wanted the fight and Ward said he needed more time with his shoulder and promoter issues.
I'm hoping everyone will just say 'ok looks like Ward didn't want the fight with GGG around 2013.' But I'm too cynical to think some will admit to that 😁😁
Lol...btw I didn't mean 'clear enough' as in you should have known without the added context...I meant 'clear enough' as in I think it was clear enough, with the context I then provided, that Ward was talking about fighting GGG...but I was putting it out there for you to decide.
But yes when I posted this thread perhaps I was channeling my inner MCC :)
Yea, I could have surmised that’s what he was talking about, but it could also be read in the other context.
ward wanted easy fights. hbo rejected those easy fights and wanted him to fight guys like ggg and bute. just google ward vs sartison and you will have your answer. "Ward’s management had a deal made with Sartison’s team, but they were unable to go ahead with it after HBO rejected the fight. What’s surprising is that Ward’s promoter made the effort to put the Sartison fight together, because it’s been common knowledge that HBO wasn’t interested in televising the Ward-Sartison fight." meanwhile we know what ward was saying about bute "he has to prove himself" he's a bullsh-itter who wanted easy fights. you can't explain away that hypocrisy.
please do some research. wards legal problems were because of his refusal to fight good figthers like bute and ggg. its well documented those fights were on the table for him and yet he went for sartison. hbo said no, fight the guys we want, ward refused and thats when he tried to get out of his promotional agreement. goosen backed hbo in court saying many good fights were offered and ward turned them all down. wards claim was that no fights were being offered/approved for him and that was a violation but it wasn't true at all and thats why he lost. he just didnt like the fights that were being offered/approved.

like i said he was #1. you dont know anything. change your name please.
Honestly Ward losing 3 times against his promoter in court should tell any reasonable person all you need to know about him...that he is a dude who thinks he can do/say whatever he wants, and that people will believe it, even when there is no factual basis behind it.
How else do you explain going to court 3 times to sue your promoter to get out of a contract, and losing all 3 times? If GGG did some sh.it like that and there was similar stuff mentioned about him in court...I would think he was kind of a clown too.
I don't think anyone is being too hard on Ward for that stuff he always said/tried to pull.
don't know where exactly it is now but im sure there are old threads with all that info. it was great stuff with goosen saying ward refused to fight all the fighters hbo wanted and he wanted to fight guys like dmitri sartison and caleb truax lol.
Wow if true, that is actually really really damning...but I'm sure those who hate on GGG and by virtue of that, love Ward...would find a way to spin that as well.
Would love to see that if you ever come across it.
Always good practice to provide a link...unless you’re a circus clown like mcc who says his threads are for people “in the know” so he doesn’t need to provide sources.

Ward was having legal problems because of ggg? Dumb even for you.
Ggg approved 168 for Ward? Flat out LIE!
Brooke rated #1 at welter? Not anywhere outside the British Isles.
Epic fail and stupid too.

Fair enough...I think it's clear enough but can't fault you for wanting to see the evidence:
https://www.si.com/mma/2013/01/18/gennady-golovkin
SI:You are going to be working the broadcast for the Golovkin fight. He's also mentioned as a possible opponent for you. Thoughts?
AW: It's an interesting fight. You have a guy in Golovkin who has the push to win and look good doing it. It's a victory for Rosado if he just looks good in the fight. I assume Golovkin is going to pull it off, a lot based on the amateur pedigree and his experience in the pros. Rosado is not as defensively responsible as he could be.

I’d need to see the context. He could just talking about comparing him to ggg.

it was clear ward wanted the easy life at that point in his career. he ducked bute as well during that same period and bute was #1 and a career high payday for him. ggg-ward was more fantasy than reality but that bute fight should have happened. hbo got pissed at ward for ducking the good fights and put him on ice. ward went to court where in court testimony his own promoter said ward refused to fight the guys hbo wanted and only wanted guys like sartison. i dont know how much more proof you need that ward didnt want to fiht ggg or other top guys.
all this happened when he was in his absolute prime and during his peak popularity too. it was in a word...mind-bobbling
I've seen you say that before and have no real reason to doubt you...but do you have proof of that? Bolded portion
so its only a real possibility when you say so? also why was ward having legal problems...because he refused to fight guys like ggg! how you can write that and not even realize it...mind-bobbling
ggg also approved ward at 168. why did you leave that out? you are trying to confuse the timeline and conflate events that happened years prior. also you left out how ward wanted ggg to postpone the canelo fight for more than a year in order to fight him. just forgot that part?
brook was ranked #1 when he fought ggg. where do you get 3 or 4? do some research? just a little? your lack of information leads you to conclusions that make no sense and you just try to fill in everything that favors the person you like. sorry doesnt work that way. your name is just the facts...you must be joking

I feel like you’re making excuses for your man crush (again).
When a Ward/ggg fight was a real possibility (not when Ward was injured, not when Ward was having legal problems), team ggg insisted the fight could only happen at 164. This was after approving 168 for both Froch and Chavez Jr. They knew Ward would be hard pressed to make 168 and 164 was out of the question. They could act like they were interested in a Ward fight but not actually fight him. After the fight fell apart, Ward moved up a weight class to fight the perceived killer and number 1 light heavy. Kovalev and ggg drug the number 3 or 4 welter up not one but two weight classes for a bout. So who was looking to take tough fights and who wasn’t?

I knew ward had skills way back, All Terrain Fighter. Still he did fight in Oakland a lot. Beating Froch and Kessler were good wins but he didn’t ever blow people out at the top level. He should have lost to Kovalev the first time. I was rooting for Ward as him coming back was the exciting narrative. Like the KD was worth a point for Kovalev at first but then worked against him every round he couldn’t finish him off. He did clinch a lot. He only has 32 fights. His career isn’t close to all world. I know this is supposed to be a GGG bashing thread. But Ward prolly got overpaid if u crunch the numbers. If careers were more like his boxing would suffer. He coulda challenged Nelo @175lbs after the Kovalev fight. He’s an awkward commentator. He’s just nobodies favourite. There’s more hate for GGG than all the emotion there is for Ward. That’s perspective.
yeah as long as the terrain is in his hometown! but i suppose you were trying to say all terrain fighter as in a guy who wrestles, holds and hits, fouls nonstop. thats true as well
I think people overreact when boxers try to make business decisions. It seems to me that when GGG had nothing to lose he was willing to fight Ward and at that moment, the fight didn't make sense for Andre. However, once GGG had some solid hype behind his names Andre started licking his chops and truly wanted a piece of GGG. Golovkin knew he was in a better position than before and realized he didn't need to fight Ward to get the big paydays, so he wasn't willing to go out of his way to make the fight happen.
It is what it is, I don't like it when fans go out of their way to explain business decisions, but they weren't even in the same weightclass and people are making it seem like one was avoiding the other. Having said all that, I think Ward would've won if they ever fought, but he doesn't get the credit for beating GGG when he didn't actually do it.
the problem wasnt hat he didnt want to fight ggg. like you said not even in the same division, ggg not superstar yet, etc...the problem was he didnt want to fight anyone! thats why he got kicked off hbo. when you are blatantly refusing to fight any top guy and you are being touted as one of hbo's biggest headliners what should they do? they even gave him fights like edwin rodriguez after awhile. they still wanted to be in the ward business(for some reason) and he just wouldn't oblige them.

Good post. I mean there’s so much precedent in boxing and big fights have always been hard to make. Course fighters will always try and get points on faith/speculation alone. Duck a fighter until he loses, which u can use to justify yourself.
Exactly! .

Not the biggest Ward fan, he's a but of a weirdo, reckon he has some dodgy fetishes, but he tested himself and beat the best in his division.
Golovkin couldn't get the job done against the smaller canelo, considering the unstoppable beast he was hyped as, he never really lived up to it. Goes down as a bit of a can crusher.
Ward on the other hand moved up a division and ended the myth of Kovalev, is the only person to convincingly beat Froch, has a good win over a prime Kessler, these names are all well above anyone GGG beat.
Basically Ward>Golovkin and it's not really debatable.
