Let’s be honest, what other sports could you go into at age 18 like AJ and Wilder, having never boxed before, and end up among the top of the sport?
Would it be possible in any other sport, except maybe MMA? Nothing comes to mind.
I mean, obviously to be like Floyd or something, that is a lifetimes work. But overall, boxing must be one of the sports that takes the least ability to actually get to near the top.
Imagine someone first playing football or basketball age 18 and becoming good enough to be a top pro? - not gonna happen.
Well most of the american sports like American Football take almost no talent too actually, so you’re probably right.
There’s absolutely no way someone could take up a real skilled sport like football (soccer) at 18 and ever be good enough to play professionally, never mind the top level.
Your losing credability with the hyperbole my friend. American Football is a game where most of the players these days have to have elite level physical ability and, as a QB, a very high IQ. In terms of applying sports technology, since the late 80's fitness people associated with the football programs in florida developed Nautilus circuit training which first allowed elite athletes (football players) to complete a circuit training regime in 15 minutes, or less, while exhausting all the major muscle groups to failure, hence allowing the practice to be devoted to football and not fitness.
Along with chemicals, steriods, etc football players have become lean, gigantic, fast, and smarter.
Now with Boxing, as I have personally tried to get people to look at, when looking at an average fighter, fighters cannot do the things that fighters did in the past. Fighters also are not in optimal condition to fight, with many looking good but not throwing punches and moving the way boxers were able to do so in the past. Its on tape if people watch.
A possible explanation is that elite athletes choose other sports, and that the training for boxing has less gifted trainers available. Even most well trained fighters fight in a style where very little inside fighting, etc is used.
I mean I see your point, but I think it's more a case of confusing outliers for the norm. Wilder and AJ are 2 examples of people who started very late yes, but there will also be a thousand examples of guys who rocked up at 18 and got battered and went home to never box again because they just weren't good enough. Both of the above have natural talent and huge power and because they're both HWs, the latter isn't constrained by weight cutting either. Let's not also forget that both Wilder and AJ were knocked out as amateurs, it's not like it's been plain sailing all the way for them.

That was easy.

Why are are you in this site if you think that
You have it backwards. It's not that boxing is a weak sport, it's that Wilder is a supremely gifted athlete.
Take 1 million men and put them on the same path that Deontay followed from age 19. Very few of them would still be boxing after a few years, and zero of them would have the amount of knockouts and title defenses that he has today.
Now just imagine if he had been training since he was a kid like Lomachenko did.....

That almost only happens at Heavyweight. Every other weight has fighters starting from age 8-12 usually
It's the exact opposite.
The amount of people in the world who are tough enough to actually be willing/able to be punched in the face for a living is so small that the people who actually can do that & be able to dish it out make it to the top.
Other sports are about talent/hard work.
Boxing's about talent/hard work/genuine toughness.
You put the toughest guys in any other sport in a boxing ring, and a lot of them will be crying in no time.

I believe it would be possible in many other sports, YOU have created this thread 'With your perception heavily being influenced by team sports' Team sports which discriminate against athletes who start apparently late etc Most team sports are run like a slave trade, and sometimes your success is highly influenced by another person's opinion.
Plenty of Olympic Athletes have started sport late 'Donovan Bailey did not get into track and field pretty much until his early 20's' After few years he was world champion/Olympic Champion and the 100m World Record Holder etc
There is a weird obsession that some boxing fans have with, tearing down or discrediting the sport.
Sort it yourself out mate.
Elite Athletes don't choose Boxing First absolutely not!
So no I don't think the argument can be made for Boxers being the best athletes HELL NO other than maybe Roy Jones Jr
Hakeem Olajuwon, NBA champ, Hall of Famer, on the list of one of the top 100 plyers ever didn't start until he was 17-18.
***embe Mutombo, NBA player, perennial defensive player of the year didn't start until he showed u in College
They usually attributed their easy transition/ underlying skill set to soccer
there have been quite a few in bball
MANY in the NFL. Dudes who literally never played a down until college ended up in the NFL hall of fame. Antonio Gates comes to mind
Like i said, most american sports take little talent, so it’s no surprise you can find a few names.
Any English kid that was semi decent at football (soccer), which is about 75% would be able to kick a field goal in American Football. Liam Smith kicked a 35 yard field goal without trying.
As i said. Nobody is going to first play basketball at age 18 and be good enough to compete at the top.
Boxing is a bums sport.
Do you even box yourself?
But they’re not late bloomers. I’m talking about guys that had never boxed until 18 or so and went to the top.
Tell me some people who played those sports for the very first time at 18 and playing in the NBA, NFL, MLB..
I want names

Go on, tell me..
Your not putting into account that HEAVYWEIGHT boxing is the BIGGEST joke of the century. NONE of today’s heavy weights could contend with a 22 year old Mike Tyson, INSHAPE Riddick Bowe, Peak Lennox Lewis, peak Klitschko, Holyfield, Foreman, Holmes, In shape Ali.
The list goes on.
A lot of sports have late bloomers that make it to the top. From baseball, football, and basketball. Not just boxing. Boxing is probably the most mentally grueling out of all of them. I wouldn't say least talented when majority of the sports have those guys that pick it up later.
