How was JRock able to take Hurd's punches?

I think Hurd was not able to get full extension on his shots and was never able to push J-Rock back. Plus, J-Rock was in tremendous shape to keep up with Hurd while implementing his game plan well. Rosario was just a different type of fight. He looked big and strong in there against J-Rock, and he was able to catch J-Rock between exchanges while getting full extension on his shots. I think J-Rock stayed in the pocket too long and too early in the fight (Rosario was too fresh). Maybe fighting Rosario similar to how he fought Gallamore would be more beneficial for the rematch (focus on boxing the first half of the fight, and start applying smart pressure as soon as Rosario starts slowing down). To echo what others have said, Hurd doesn't have "one hitter-quitter" power, he forces a lot of stoppages from an onslaught of volume shots thrown from different angles and constant pressure. His opponents break down from both the physical and psychological pressure. JRock stayed in the pocket and was able feel the shots coming and countered with harder shots. Banana was a bigger dude and had more concussive power, he started his attack from longer range and continued it as he closed distance. I had seen him fight on FS1 and thought he was a solid fighter, I expected JRock to win by decision though. Something else to consider is the fact that Hurd and Jrock fought before hometown crowds in these losses. I was at the Hurd fight and saw the lead-up media blitz. I think both of them lacked focus while the opponent had razor sharp focus fighting in their opponent's back yard. When the beltholder realized they were in a dogfight, they weren't mentally prepared for it. In both fights they faced early adversity from which they never fully recovered from: Hurd was dropped early which dented his self confidence; pressure fighters often take a few rounds to warm up but Hurd was too amped too early for his own good. JRock got cut from a grazing punch fairly early on and it was really evident that the blood and cut was bothering him. Thanks guys...good posts/analysis...really like the bold parts

hurd looked and fought like a zombie. now imagine hurd fighting at 152...like some other huge fighters who used to fight at 154 were made to do.

Me and I had been watching Banana on FS1 cards before this fight. I thought it was a much better fight than people thought but no way did I think he was gonna stop J Rock. I was surprised at the outcome! Still shocked

I think jrock just had a ton of film on Hurd and studied his style where he wasn’t prepared for bananas power. I’m a Hurd fan, but he beats opponents as much with stamina as he does power. JRock was in great shape for their bout and he powered through it

Didn't see this fight with Rosario...but JRock-Hurd was a great fight and JRock took some really good shots from Hurd in that fight. Was/is this just a case of JRock not having great fight IQ and not seeing some shots coming (as with Charlo and now this guy)? And by that logic, he could take Hurd's shots because Hurd is not quite as slick and is more deliberate with his attack, so JRock was more comfortable, in control, and say most everything coming. I've always felt that a guy being 'chinny' is mainly due to him getting caught with shots he didn't expect...but JRock seems to be a smart fighter...and he was able to take Hurd's shots well. Just seeing what people thought here about why JRock struggled here (and with Charlo) but not with Hurd. I think this guy is called Jeison Rosario and so far is a very humble and cool kid.

JRock made the fight with Hurd a dog fight, Rosario was getting big shots off at a distance I'd guess.
