What's the opinion of you guys that mikey took the easy way out or quit vs Salido or was it a vaild dont wanna continue from mikey and his corner?
Edit:
I ask because there have been boxers that have accused Mikey of quitting.
That is a different circumstance. Had Marquez and his corner decided to call off the fight, Pacquiao would have been awarded a 5th round TKO because the broken nose was caused by a punch. One was caused a by clean punch, the other was caused by a blatant headbutt in order to gain an advantage.
dang!! you're 100% right bud... I totally forgot that fact.. thanks for pointing it out.. happy new year.
You can learn a lot from a person by just listening to what they say and watching what they do. This applies to Mikey AND his "fans".
Mikey Garcia quit period. The going got tough and he was offered an easy out and guess what? He took it. It's literally a common trend his whole career.
The same guys who are complaining about Salido being dirty and giving Mikey a pass are the same people who give criticize Lomachenko in his 2nd pro fight for losing a SD to an overweight Salido who starting fouling from the opening bell.
Think about that OP.
Marque'z nose was broken in the last Pacquiao fight and was taking a beating but. chose to go on and won the fight.
Abraham Arthur a broken jaw and finished the fight.
Margarito had his eye socket broken to pieces against Pac. but continued to fight he didn't want the fight to be stopped. some fighters rather go out on their shields than quitting. ( to me is stupid. we are talking about their health here)
Mikey doesn't seem to have that type of mentality.. he wanted his brother to quit for him.
I was at the fight. Mikey was very sharp that night and in person Mikey was the far bigger fighter. Salido did what he always did in pressuring no matter how hard he got hit. The head but was bad but Salido's pressure was starting to get to Mikey. Not that he was going to beat him but Salido simply was not going away even when he got hurt.
I don't know because he was the star they listened to Robert when he asked to stop the fight because of the broken nose. Just as the fight was getting more interesting the clash of head happened.
Mikey was clowning Salido it's stupid to pretend Mikey was somehow scared or looking for an out. I do think Mikey was confused and waiting for his team to decide what to do at the time the fight was called. Different fighters handle those situations different ways and Mikey was clearly looking to them to guide him. He wasn't a vet at that point in his career.
Many fans are just salty that Salido wasn't given a chance to foul his way to a W.
Anyone who says he quit is just hating. He was completely dominating Salido up until the headbutt, and even afterward he was still composed despite some people's wishful thinking about Salido supposedly taking over. Also, it was Robert who brought the injury to the attention of the ref who decided to call a halt after consulting with officials. It's absurd to expect Mikey in his first title fight to defy his corner and the officials by insisting on continuing in a fight he had been dominating. That fight had actually been so one sided many people thought Salido was shot and didn't give Mikey full credit for his performance which in retrospect is a highly underrated win.
Mikey was kicking his ass and was up like 4 knockdowns lol. There is zero logic to continuing a fight with a broken nose against a dirty ass fighter that is that down on the cards.
He was dominating Salido right up until the headbutt busted his nose. There is a part of me that feels Mikey quit. Maybe he was getting discouraged that he couldn't keep Salido down and there was still a lot of fight left in him to go four more rounds with a busted nose. Definitely not the stuff warriors are made from. Maybe that is part of the reason he took the Spence fight, to redeem himself as a fearless warrior?
Salido was dirty on puprose imo, lunging in with his head trying to cause a cut in my opinion - and would've gained unfair advantage if Mikey had to continue with broken nose.
Mikey did a right thing. It would've been "quitting" if He didn't know He was just grabbing a win (Which was justified considering the cirumstances imo).
This is a topic that divides opinion but I supported Garcia cause he was kicking Salido’s ass up until that point. Salido started fouling to level the playing field.
People will say Salido was coming on but I didn’t see him doing that via legal means.
Edit: earlier on the fight you hear Robert Garcia urging Mikey to get the KO because he thought Salido would start getting dirty late on specifically with headbutts.

He was making Siri look foolish until he started fouling. As a coach, I wouldve recommended the samething & Id hope my fighter listened. A broken nose can cause breathing issues for life. Siri wouldve kept headbutting & elbowing that nose.
