Still stinging, ex-trainer Andre Rozier didn’t watch Daniel Jacobs’ fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Jacobs was due to get a $15 million purse to battle the Mexican icon. Rozier was going to get five percent cut. That’s not a crazy figure; if you had told me that the guy who’d been there since Danny was using Clearasil was getting 10 percent, I would have said that’s fair.
But the check was in the mail after Danny took his third loss, and when it came, Rozier gulped.
Looked at it, stared at it.
$100,000. Good chunk. But not five percent of $15 million

Did you ignore the parts about Rozier training him since he was a teen? Rozier being with him when he had cancer and boxing wasn't even thought of? Rozier being there for him during the death of his mother? If Jacobs needs a contract for a man like that then Jacobs is an *******. Do the right thing because it's the right thing to do. This is bad karma
This is what’s going wrong in the world now. It’s always happened; just on a larger and darker scale today.
So he just trained him the entire camp with no written agreements? Thats his story? But somehow he had the idea he would get 5%..... so that was verbal? At that point he decided to not get it in writing, then that is his own fault. He could still sue jacobs though, with nothing written then its up for them to battle it out.
If he really had no contract then he has no one to blame but himself, this is business.
Some of these trainers are greedy, if you are in camp with Jacobs and then you going off with other boxers maybe you need to stick to one that makes you the most money. And having Dervychenko in your stable as well as Jacobs is a conflict of interest. Maybe thats why his pay was cut, missing camp and stuff. If he has a leg to stand on then enforce that 5% that you had in your contract.
THIS.
At a certain level of popularity your trainer isn't doing anything worthy of the extra pay the boxer has earned off of HIS personality, persona, excitement in the ring or sh^t talking skills out of the ring. Boxers don't make what guys like Floyd, Manny, Tyson, Canelo, GGG or anyone making 8 digits a fight. You have transcended boxing when you are making that much. And that's just the boxer who did it not the trainer too.
10% to infinity pay is f#cking nuts. A trainer isn't worth THAT much.
Well I think it's pretty much accepted and it's the general consensus that you dont carry on paying the trainer a % but $100k is not right. If a guy is making 8 figures, the head trainer should be on at least $500k
Rozier explained how their situation was different from GGG & Abel. GGG sat Abel down and told him what he'd be paying him and Abel disagreed and they parted ways. Danny never told Rozier he was cutting his percentage. Rozier expected a lot more for all his years with Danny. He's been with Danny since Danny was an amateur. Built Danny from the ground up. Even choose to be in Danny's corner over Dervychenko's. Was with Danny thru his cancer when it looked like Danny may never be able to fight again.
I don't know how much Rozier should've gotten but I do know he's worth a lot more than $100,000. He's probably put that much work in before Danny made his first check. Karma is coming to Danny. You don't do people like that.

Way back in 87' Leonard split with Dundee for this reason. Leonard wanted to pay a flat fee and Dundee wanted the standard ten percent. Leonard went with Janks Morton who took the flat fee.
I tend to agree with the fighters as they are the one taking the punches and potentially dying and are on average shortening their lives. But 100K isn't reasonable unless you agreed to the deal up front.
PS, Abel is being an A-hole as GGG did this up front he didn't stiff him like Jacobs allegedly did.
That's pretty ****ing shady of Jacobs......
We see this stuff all the time in boxing. Once those big paydays start rolling in, the fighters greed exponentially increases along with them. They forget all about being a team. They forget all about who was with them every step of the way.
I doubt that 100k is the truth - Redd is right in that there's part of a story missing here.. but I can't imagine it being such a huge part. Rozier's a good guy from the looks of it, I doubt he deserves getting done dirty like that.
Let's be real, $100K before taxes for helping your fighter get to a career high pay day with the face of boxing is bull****.
I understand that Jacobs didn't want to pay Rozier $1.5 Mil but 100k is disrespect.
That was messed up and even though I believe Abel Sanchez was a lot more influential in getting ggg famous which is what got ggg paid. Either way that amount of money is cold blooded it’s not even 1 percent of the purse. Fighters these days are cold blooded businessmen and I’ve noticed every time Jacobs argues with oponnents ‘the first thing’ he mentions is “touching m’s” he’s basically bragging about making more money than them. He did it to Charlo and Rosado but this man using the cheap ymca boxing coaches that he can pay watever to. That fool just as bad as ggg
When a fighter makes a certain amount, no longer do they pay trainers the typical 10% rate. You think Floyd is paying his father 35M for his 350M pay day vs Pacquiao? Of course not, but Danny still should have paid him more than 100k from his near 12-15M pay day. Rozier probably got the same amount to train Danny against Derevyanchenko.
Unfortunate situation as Rozier would call Danny his son and how close they have been for two decades, but that's the game for you. It happens that way.
