I really feel bad for Andy Ruiz. He had it all, and threw it all away by just having fun spending money and eating rich foods. He didn’t even train like he should have. I feel bad for him because he may never have another shot at the heavyweight titles like this.
I was just stating that that was what team Ruiz or ruiz himself claimed to be the case prefight. That they were going for power and KO and that they prepared really well.
People definitely bought it. In the early stages of promotion where slimmed Andy pics were being scattered around. People be like “Oh no it’s bad for ya” And all. “Don’t fix what ain’t broke”. And with roach saying andy is better fat than not, and that’s his former coach.
It’s amazing how it could change after the fight..
“Oh you didn’t prepare well.”
I say fat or not, Aj executed a good strategy that be tough not just for ruiz but for everyone albeit being boring in many casuals eyes.
Floyd use the same thing his entire career.. potshot box tie up wash rinse and repeat.
But I cannot accept that it is more of ruiz being fat or underprepared that Aj won in that manner.
I saw his prefight training vids, interviews. And all and he prepared well for this fight..
But now, that is made to be a very fitting excuse.. Cmon he was already fat the first time
Aj would have won the first one had he fought the same way. Against a 260 plus ruiz.
I was rooting for ruiz.. but he just couldn’t do anything about that kinda style.. it’s not in his arsenal to counter that.
Even duran, didn’t want none when sugar ray started to bike around.
He should’ve ask for joshua to fight him, right from the start. Not 15 seconds to the final bell lol
Exactly. I'm still wondering why only few have mentioned this. Even after the 1st fight, I thought Joshua had the tools to beat Ruiz and he should have really. He just f.uc.ked up and went for the kill when he scored the 1st knockdown. He got caught, hurt and everything went downhill from there. Ruiz is a tough dude. He's a better toe-to-toe fighter, durable, and can fire back even when he gets hit. But that's just it. AJ is still a more well-rounded fighter and, yes, a better-skilled boxer. I remember people laughing when I mentioned that.
Good luck on that. The fact that the guy pulls off stuff like this on the biggest night of his life tells a lot about where his career is heading. The guy is short for a heavyweight (not by much 6ft 2) but he's got fast hands, good reflexes and good chin. Imagine if he was 235 pounds, his legs will be quicker and him closing the distance will be less of an issue, it will be similar to the way Canelo closes distance. The guy loves food you can tell just by looking at his face but to think no one on his team could curb the burritos and quesadillas is just shameful. He very well could have blown his only chance to ever come close to fighting for a title again. Worse is he just seem happy to be there to collect his check
True. I said the same last night. If he can’t be motivated to train for his biggest payday and biggest fight of his life, does anyone really expect him to get in shape to fight Adam Kowancki or someone for a fraction of the money in a much smaller fight?
No chance in hell. The guy is a slob and is dedicated more to a disgusting diet than boxing.
Can’t feel sorry for him.
He had 6 months to prepare and obviously didn’t. It wasn’t like the rematch was sprung on him at the last minute. He’s known since June he was going to have to take the rematch.
No problem with him enjoying himself, but do it with the rematch in the back of your mind and get back into training when the trainer asks you to.
You don’t mind Ruiz losing if he prepared and just got outboxed by AJ, that happens, but at least give yourself half a chance and train.
As i’ve said before, you can be as talented as you want, even as talented as Floyd. If you’re out eating pizza’s for months while you’re opponent is grafting in the gym every day, what do you think will happen? - There’s a reason why Floyd and people like that always trained like they’re poor, even with significant talent advantages over some opponents.
Still not giving up on Andy. I want to see what he can do if he gets in shape and learns to close the distance, especially cause he's short for a heavyweight. Not saying that he's as good as Joshua, Wilder, etc.—that remains to be seen—but if he can get in shape, it will be interesting at the very least.

This here represents fans....
When Fat Andy beat AJ, AJ was shot and Andy was the next Ali.
Now look at how these guys are perceived :lol1: !
This is nothing, but a straw-man argument. No one said Ruiz was the next Ali or AJ was shot. That is made-up nonsense. My opinion on Ruiz has always been the same, because I have followed his career and have known how unmotivated he is. Yes, he beat AJ, but that was more due to AJ than Ruiz. Actually, Ruiz fought a much better fight against Parker. Last night he was so fat he actually lost all his quickness and reflexes which were his only talents.
Ruiz was a Cinderella story. Midnight came early for him. He regressed back to his over achieving self. He seemed overmatched from the get go as he had trouble closing the gap and distance on Joshua.
Anthony kept Andy at bay circling and moving around the ring behind a long left stiff jab while landing several hard right hands behind them also. Moreover, when Ruiz eventually did get close AJ very smartly clinched and tied him up immediately.
As much as I hate to admit it. Ruiz doesn't a chance against the version of AJ who showed up on Saturday night. He gave up to many physical advantages to Joshua in size, height, reach and power.
You don't get paid that kind of money for 36 minutes of work. You get it for weeks of work culminating in a fight.
Ruiz took the money without doing the work.
Fair enough, good luck to him. If he's happy then it's not for me to judge.
I don't see anyone giving him another shot though. Would you invest in a big fight just to have him turn up like that?
He'll have to prove himself on the undercard with small purses now.
And all he had to do was not gorge himself.
He has always been fat and lazy. I have seen just about all of his fights and in none of them was he in shape. I saw his first fight and he was fat and out of shape, but he had very quick hands so he looked promising with everyone saying just wait and see how good he is when he gets in shape, but it never happened. He is grossly overweight in all of his fights. At least Arreola got in shape at times, Ruiz is never in shape and he actually refuses to get in shape.
Yes he won the title, but it was due more to AJ than him. The difference between Ruiz and Areolla is Arreola fought a much better champion, Vitali K. and Ruiz fought a much weaker champion and that is why he won.
Now everyone knows why Top Rank dumped him. They got tired of his laziness. He got lucky in the first fight and in the rematch he came in fatter than the first fight. The guy is an embarrassment much like Arreola was. Two guys that just could not stop shoveling food in their mouths.
It is funny that people will praise his heart and question Joshua's.
I respect both men for living their lives and having the balls to step in the ring. I won't question their heart but I will question the mentality of a fighter who goes into the biggest fight of their career without training properly.
Totally agree, got to question is mentality. This is the biggest night of his life, not 6 months ago but this one. Retain all the belts and you are free from the rematch clause, you would have more offers from PBC to fight for the undisputed belts. But nope, he turned up fat and unmotivated, that was a bit of a shock to me.
Sad? Nope, he isn’t as dedicated as he should be. And the money he got from the first fight didn’t help him at all. The fact that everyone was telling him he would beat Joshua easier also doesn’t help.

I agree with everything u said. Maybe Ruiz had the best cardio of his life this fight. It’s hard to know. Still he added nothing but fat. So if he worked harder than ever, that means he also ate way more calories than ever to come in so much fatter despite that effort. All I know is his diet was garbage cause nobody strategize to gain all that fat. Like u said it was what his team said was his strategy. I agree, I don’t think the weight on either side was ever a huge factor. I think it was what a lot of rematches look like. AJs adaptation and precedent of the first fight was the difference. But AJ lost sum weight knowing he’d be moving more. We make too much of weight, but it’s a tangible number, so it makes sense why we do. I agree I don’t think a 250lb Ruiz coulda won tonight. But I still want us fans to be able to call out these fighters and trainers after for not getting to their best weight. They gotta lie to sell the fight I know that. But the joke is on us fans, for somehow allowing to believe that. Like I said it’s an old boxing joke.
