First of all: I've been seeing a lot of crap about AJ being shot and this that and the other. Complete BS. He's not shot at all.
AJ is a tall fighter, he's 6'6 / 6'7, and amateur and pro has very little experience fighting short guys. Ruiz is 6 ft at best. Don't underestimate how difficult it is for a tall guy to fight a short guy. Especially one that understands front foot counter punching like Ruiz, which is a very difficult style to come across in training.
People also say that AJ should fight like Klitschko or dance around like Fury. Those people don't know wtf they are talking about. First of all it would take him years to learn both those styles, and secondly it doesn't suit him at all.
AJ is a come-forward brawler. In order to win this fight he needs to take center of the ring, and gain Ruiz's respect without getting countered.
Can he do it? Possibly. Is it likely? No.
Ruiz has been fighting taller guys his whole career, and now knows what to expect from AJ. He'll throw multiple counters every time AJ throws, and some of it will land and hurt AJ.
I don't expect Ruiz to KO him, simply because I don't think he has that much power and I think AJ has a better chin than given credit for.
The punch he landed on the side of the head will be very hard to replicate, and AJ will be looking for Ruiz's lefthook the entire fight .
However, I do expect Ruiz to land more than AJ, make him uncomfortable and keep a tight enough defense to see out a victory in what will be a frustrating night for Joshua.
Prediction RUIZ DECISION
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" -Mike Tyson
Ruiz could take Joshua shots... Joshua couldn't take Ruiz barrage of shots...
Simple math... Rinse/Repeat... Same outcome mid-fight...
Any game plan Joshua has will vanish when his brain remembers who makes him feel the same buzz as the fight before... Then it's game over...
Don't think Ruiz could win a decisive decision against Joshua and both will be very cautious in the opening rounds, both knowing first hand the other man can hit. I think it goes late in a gruelling contest, Ruiz behind on the cards needing a KO and gets stopped in the process. One thing is for sure, Ruiz will not stop coming until Joshua nails him down!
Yes I'm saying he lost a 10-8 round. But a lot of the other rounds were close. Round 7 was the round where Andy stepped up after taking a bit of a break after round 3. But the judges obviously didn't finish round 7, through 1-6 it's not out of this world to believe AJ won 3-4 rounds especially considering he probably won 1 and 2.
I had him winning 1,2 and 5 and even watching it again I don't think that was too generous. Note that having him winning rounds is a long way away from saying he was in control - he looked uncomfortable with Ruiz from the start. But length will still win rounds.
1 and 2 were nothing rounds anyway, but it's round 5 that makes me think Ruiz can't win a decision. Joshua was still on stiff legs and even then could rack up enough jabs and the occasional flashy shot to keep Ruiz honest and take the round.
For Ruiz to win rounds he'll need to be all over Joshua. And if he can do that then it won't go 12 rounds.
My pick is still Joshua to break him down. Basically the same tactic as last time - cautious until you catch him - but without throwing everything at him when he does land. 7-9 rounds of that would be plenty to end the fight.
But it's close to 50/50. I can absolutely see Ruiz finishing Joshua in a similar way to last time.
You mean that "10-8" round was a "8-10", right?... because Ruiz got that 3rd round by 10-8 on all the scorecards...

Remember that when the fight was stopped AJ had taken one 10-8 round and you could argue he won a few of the others, certainly the first two.
Of course Ruiz can win a decision and will if he deserves it.

I see this fight play out like Wladimir - Samuel Peter 1 the more I think about it.
Maybe on paper in terms of taking a few KDs. I was thinking about that too.
What people don't so much remember about this fight is that Wlad smashed Peter for the majority of the fight.
... Ruiz can't get a "decision" win on the scorecards ...
... for instance: last time, Pasquale Procopio (the Canadian judge) had AJ ahead with one round...

Ruiz isn’t getting a decision. He knows it and we all know it. All Joshua needs to do is stand up and he would get his belts back in SA. The event is stacked against Ruiz, he needs to stop AJ again.
If it goes the distance it’s gonna be AJ and AJ has the very tools to do it. His mistake in the 1st fight was getting carried away after scoring a knockdown in the 3rd round. He got caught and hurt and everything went downhill from there. If he fight cautious the 2nd time around, he can outpoint Ruiz and win a decision. The only interesting thing is Ruiz trying to slim down. Maybe he knows what AJ may be up to and he may be trying to counter the plan in advance
... AJ was only trading just after he easily floored Ruiz, in the 3rd... Who would have thought that Ruiz wasn't hurt and that he would have immediately retaliate with some bomb hooks???...
Do you really think Ruiz wasn't hurt when he was floored that bad? His eyes rolled slightly when Joshua landed that huge shot.
Ruiz has good recovery you could say, but to say that he wasn't hurt when there is video about it is just false.
Ruiz traded with Joshua when tried to finish him, Marquez traded Pacquiao when he was hurt etc. etc. there are myriads of examples of a fighter who was hurt, then traded but got the better of it because of his faster hands and shorter range.
OK, OK: I would have better said "Who would have thought that Ruiz wasn't BADLY hurt... It's OK now?... :)
It's because Parker has slight range compared to Ruiz and fights on a sloppy manner, that's why Parker was able to slightly close the distance on Joshua to make it a fight (well, it should have been a fight had the ref not been full of shi.t)
But Ruiz is not Parker, Ruiz is not a defensive wizard where he Canelo head movement his way to the inside. He's there to be hit, he may block and parry from time to time, but he doesn't move his head well enough and moves in a straight line.
People are over estimating Ruiz' chin and balance also, the first big shot that Joshua it Ruiz with, he goes down. But Joshua's mistake was trading, which is not a good idea against a fast handed fighter.

I got AJ winning because Ruiz gets DQ'd.
Ruiz combos AJ to a knockdown but Ruiz keeps punching AJ in the face when AJ has a knee on the ground. AJ gets punched through the ropes and passed out.
Ruiz is DQ'd. AJ wins the fight but is rushed to the hospital for observation.
Lol crazier things have happened. 100/1 odds betting on DQ for either guy hah

Sorry but I think you are way off base. Someone is getting KO-ed and that is most likely AJ.
