Just trying to figure out what these fights really sold...and why Porter/Spence reportedly sold much better than Wilder, who is a KO artist HW (HWs historically bring in the bigger numbers)...just makes 0 sense to me.
I would think Wilder/Ortiz 2 would sell a bit better than Porter/Spence...maybe 125k to 75k.
The PPV era is basically dead, and there are only 2 PPV guys left in the sport right now (AJ doesn't really count as PPV guy since he is in the UK but he can sell too).
So it is with no disrespect to those guys to say that those where my projected PPV numbers for those fights...just that there are only 2 guys right now - Canelo and Pac - who could sell 200k+ PPVs vs basically anyone.
I have to ask, why are ticket sales, ppv such a big issue here?? DID THE FIGHTERS FIGHT GOOD COMP?? DID THEY WIN??? DID THEY DELIVER ENTERTAINMENT??? Why as a fan are we so concerned about all the business aspect???
I think that's just part of the whole thing man...monitoring the sport and checking its vital signs if you will.
Also I want to see all these guys do well and make money...my questioning here is more about me just looking at the reported numbers/purses in some of these fights and going 'how'...it just doesn't pass my smell test so I want more information...just how I'm wired I guess.
When you feel like someone may be pulling one over on you it just gives you some pause and causes you to ask some questions sometimes.

The real question is how many times have people got to answer this for you?
I've learned to not like a lot of people here. I joined because I like the technical aspect. Analysis. Things like that and a vast majority of people here arent there for those reasons.
I'm Asian and I've never seen more people self victimize themselves just so they can passively aggressively pull their race card out as an argument. I know exactly how that game is played and these guys don't like that.
Like BoxingIsGreat.
Dude seriously suggested to me that I, an Asian man, stop "projecting my white inferiority" onto himself, a black man. And that statement was made in response to me saying that Lomachenko has earned his stripes and that a black man, Devan Haney hasnt earned his.
Like those guys honestly believe that Lomachenko fans are scared of Devin Haney and need to invent any story they can to feed their delusion.
I want Lomachenko to fight Haney. I think Lomachenko will win in convincing fashion because of his skill and experience. Devin has the size to give Lomachenko problems but that's about it. Devin has a punchers chance and hes not a big puncher. The oods do not favor him.
Yet they want to make it about...colors. FFS
I hear ya man, that's a really good post...and you are often right on the money with your posts from what I've seen...my friendly advice would just be to try to not let anyone steal your peace...I agree that I wish there was more focus on boxing analysis here.
Just have to try and find a good debate when it's there...and try not to let anyone drag you down in the mud with them.
Yeah I agree on the Thanksgiving thing man.
You're right, most people will support their own...it is what it is, I have no real issue with it...I wish we would all be a little more upfront with our biases sometimes too but what can ya do.
I actually like that guy...we've disagreed about a lot of stuff before, and hardly ever agree on fighters, and even gotten into some race discussions...but he seems like a decent guy to me...at least he can generally disagree with someone without getting really nasty, from what I've seen anyway.

Man I don't think it is too cynical to say that we see a lot of corruption/bias/'fake news' in the boxing industry...I trust those reporting some of those numbers about as much as I trust some of these promoters when they spin their tales.
It's kind of like a church telling me they are running a deficit...don't tell me, show me...show me the numbers and the breakdown for the buys etc...until I can see some hard evidence I just remain skeptical it is goes against what I am seeing.
Yeah I mean I know a lot of guys on here would buy that fight...but a lot would probably buy Wilder-Ortiz too...and 300K buys to me seems like it goes way past the hardcore buys rate, and on to the casual fan buys...and I just don't see where the casual fan engagement for Wilder or Spence is really that high.
Of course, that's why you try to look at MULTIPLE reports from different outlets to get past the bias from certain journalists. This is why for Spence/Porter, I got numbers from folks working at different networks and from even a rival promoter in Hearn. And we all know Hearn is one to completely exaggerate against his rivals but he himself said Spence/Porter didn't get to 300k buys, but wasn't far off. And then of course the others that I listed worked from outlets from SI/DAZN to The Athletic to Yahoo to ESPN etc.
Don't underestimate the power of FOX and the way they have promoted these fights. The preview shows were getting great ratings and I bet most were casuals that were watching it. And they are the ones that make up the buys. Hardcores are often times just the minority.
Right, so to you it wouldn't even matter what none of these guys report since you are only going to believe it did a certain number. That's why does it even matter what guys like Coppinger/Rafael/Idec/Rutkowski/etc report?
I'm not sure how to answer your last question? I mean people like me? Lol.
And I wouldn't consider myself a big 'fan' of Spence or Wilder...but I like both of them...and I like Ortiz and Porter more than them anyway...so I would hope all those fights did sell well.
I just personally don't see where the 300k buys comes from there.

Well it they say Wilder-Ortiz was 125k or so I would believe it...that's where I would think it falls...my 'projections' are just based on the buzz I see from people around me. No one knows who any of these guys are man. Everyone knows Mayweather and Pac and a lot of them know Canelo...I don't see where they are able to generate the buys for these types of fights.
Who are all these people who were buying Spence-Porter?

Thanksgiving week is a pretty weak excuse.
If they felt it did good numbers they would have put out estimates on Monday or Tuesday well before people are off for the holiday.
As we didn’t hear anything it’s safe to assume it underperformed and they are counting on it getting lost in the holiday shuffle and Ruiz/AJ 2.
Yeah I agree on the Thanksgiving thing man.
You're a smart guy man. You already know the answer to the bold. Hint hint. Maybe it has to do with colors.
Colors of the rainbow like to stick with their own. ROYGBIV
Take it from BoxingIsGreat who should be banned suggesting that white is inferior to black.
Hint hint.
You're right, most people will support their own...it is what it is, I have no real issue with it...I wish we would all be a little more upfront with our biases sometimes too but what can ya do.

I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers weren't good, but some of the numbers I'm seeing people throw around like fact is straight stupid. Somebody will randomly say 2500 buys, and a whole thread of trolls will laugh at that number as if it were true.
Yeah I don't pay any attention to those posters, or those who have an obvious agenda to slight certain fighters or promoters...they can be fans and be biased all they want, but I don't look to them for objective information.
I have just been browsing here since the fight and have seen no one report on the numbers for Wilder-Ortiz, or no one positively report on them...and also was curious about why Spence-Porter did so well while this one may not have, so I made the thread.
If the numbers come out similar to Spence-Porter, I will eat a little crow...as I said I still wouldn't really believe either fight did 300k PPVs, I just don't see where the buys come from...but if they officially report that then it is what it is.
Btw, Idec/Rafael/Mannix/Hearn/Rutkowski said Spence/Porter would fall just short of 300k and do around 275k.
Why can't Spence just be a bigger name than Wilder? He has the backing of the Cowboys which surely helps him. Now, I have NO idea what Wilder/Ortiz did, and it may have done more than Spence/Porter. We will get a ballpark estimate/report soon enough. But if you aren't going to buy what everyone was reporting for Spence/Porter, then why does it matter that no one has reported what Wilder/Ortiz does since you won't believe it anyways?

There has been NO report on what the fight has done. What you are hearing about 2,500 buys or 80k buys is coming from just trolls.
I have heard nothing....Because the ones that do report the numbers haven't said anything....Well, hadn't said anything before today. I haven't searched around today, so maybe there will be some reports of what it did, but I know up until yesterday, there was nothing.
I’ve been reading about 180k buys
Btw...I swear the weirdest thing about this site is the insistence for a lot on here to defend not just fighters, but also their PPV numbers, promoters, etc.
Like it's bizarre...I like GGG but if someone talked sh.it about his PPV numbers, well he just isn't really a PPV guy on his own, almost no one else is in the game today, there is no shame in that.
You guys getting all emotional over PPV numbers and refusing to believe that PPV is basically dead and that most guys don't sell these days...I mean I don't really get that angle.
You're a smart guy man. You already know the answer to the bold. Hint hint. Maybe it has to do with colors.

Probably just 3-4 people with several different accounts
Bro...that's not how the world works/not how information is spread these days man.
I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers weren't good, but some of the numbers I'm seeing people throw around like fact is straight stupid. Somebody will randomly say 2500 buys, and a whole thread of trolls will laugh at that number as if it were true.
Again, a WW that no one has really heard of, doing better numbers than a HW (who no one has really heard of) but is a HW, and is a KO artist...just makes 0 sense man...historically it has been HWs that sell...the other guys who sell are outliers who were BIG stars at the time.
I just don't see where Porter-Spence would do 300k...just can't see it at all.
But if that did 300k then Wilder-Ortiz surely had to...where are all these Spence/Porter fans who aren't also Wilder fans?
And going in most thought Spence-Porter would be a mismatch anyway...at least Ortiz could outbox Wilder...and if he didn't, well you were getting a KO to watch.

Getting emotional? Huh? You call my posts getting emotional?
