isnt Furys and Joshuas best wins against an old man?
Never said the Heavy Weight division was great it only basically has 4 Fighters Wilder Fury Ruiz and Jousha how is that great and theres 4 fricken belts
You talk like Frazier and Marciano were a pair of punks that anybody could KO instead of the great respected champions they were. They were both close to 6 feet tall and Marciano weighed 185 and Frazier weighed 205. Ortiz can only manage about 30 punches a round or maybe 40 punches on a real good night. If he throws more than that he runs out of gas very badly. Marciano and Frazier were punching machines who could throw nearly 100 hard punches a round, round after round. They were also much faster than Ortiz. Marciano had an iron jaw as well. I doubt Ortiz could fight at their pace and he would be the one to gas out and get knocked out in my opinion. Ali sparred with an old retired Marciano and said his punching power was incredible because it was. Frazier fought three famous legendary fights with Ali and I doubt Ortiz could stay with that Frazier. Ortiz's big fights were getting KOed by Wilder twice.
Good post. I understand that some of the modern champions probably would’ve been too much for the smaller heavyweight legends like those you described; but aside from them, just because a fighter is bigger doesn’t mean he’s better. Ortiz probably couldn’t handle Marciano or Frazier. Maybe athletes have improved, but the old-timers are definitely still in the conversation.
That’s my thinking also. He would be top 10 in every era but not the top guy in any of them.
Pretty much. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Too many people on this forum seem to think there are two types of fighters: elites and “bums.” That’s simply not the case. Just as in general life, just because you’re not a billionaire or a millionaire doesn’t mean you’re a loser. Ortiz is a good fighter to watch. At least I think so.
I don't agree with this assessment. Here's why
Here are some champions through the years that Ortiz could beat...at least by the eye test
70's - Leon Spinks, John Tate
80's - Gerrie Coetzee, Pinklon Thomas, Greg Page, Tony Tubbs, Trevor Berbick, James Bone crusher Smith,
90's - Tommy Morrison (maybe), Michael Moorer (maybe), Herbie Hide (maybe), Bruce Seldon, Henry Akinwande
00's + - , Chris Byrd (maybe), John Ruiz, Corrie Sanders, Hasim Rahman, Siarhei Liakhovich, Oleg Maskaev, Samuel Peter (maybe), Bermane Stiverne, Ruslan Chagaev, Charles Martin, Manuel Charr, Lucas Browne, Joseph Parker (maybe)
Do you get my point? He could have been a champion in any era from the 70s to now based on that list. And all of those guys listed were champions
these cats never heard of most of those guys..
I just don't get why so many people are down on this era. Ok it's not 70s Ali/Frazier/Foreman and it's not early 90s Tyson/Holyfield/Lewis/Bowe (the best era IMHO) but it's better than the mid 80s, late 90s, and all of the 00s. It's an improvement. Wilder, Fury, Ruiz, and Joshua are all heavies that I'm genuinely interested in seeing face each other and the second tier (Oriz, Povetkin, Parker and White) are all solid fighters that for the most part would be the among the best competition Klitscho would've faced in the last era.
Ortiz is pretty good. Not the greatest, but pretty good. This isn’t even a prime version of himself. A 32-35 year old Ortiz would do well in any era. He probably wouldn’t be champ, but he’d give most anyone a run for their money.
That’s my thinking also. He would be top 10 in every era but not the top guy in any of them.
The fact that he is even top 10 at 40 shows how weak this hw era is. Ortiz would have gotten laid out in those eras.

Who cares? There is no way to prove it. He fights in this era. I swear some of you fools need help.
The funny thing is he would have a better chance to prove it cause those of the former eras wouldn't avoid him like they do in this period
Who avoids him??? One way you can't b favoured, become a mandatory. And don't get popped for PEDs

He would have still been avoided because he is a lefty, lefty heavies were frozen out of the division for decades. Micheal Moorer was like the second or third left handed champ in heavyweight boxing history if I am remembering it right and I think the number today is only 11 or 12.
So he might have been even more of a boogie man.
Frazier would lay him out cold. Most cubans have glass and jaws and ortiz has one. He's a great technician but if you have a glass jaw as a hw you got no chance. The first hard shot from frazier and ortiz would be out.
HA! Man I agree with you that Frazier > Ortiz. You seriously think Ortiz has a glass chin though?
Don't be stupid. That's just an asinine comment.
Ortiz is remarkably better than most of Larry Holmes opponents like Zanon, Scott Frank, Evangelista, Snipes, LeDoux, Leon Spinks, David Bey, Marvis Frazier, Tex Cobb, Lucien Rodriguez and on and on and on. So I disagree with that statement. Most people on this site don't know these names. They might know Leon spinks. Hard to believe these bums were ranked in the top 5 and got title shots. If Ortiz fought these guys he would KO them all and be top of the heep

ortiz has beaten no one worth a damn.
Luis Ortiz is almost a perfect techician with size power and speed.
He would contend in any era. You’re telling me he wouldn’t Ko 5’9 200 lb Marciano and FrAzier?

False. Ortiz contends in any era. This era isn't the strongest but it isn't weak. The Kilt era was. Aware yourself away or get red K bombed.
