Tyson was 30, prime time, 45-1, and got TKO'd by Holyfield and was losing again b4 Tyson got DQ in the 2nd fight. Lewis also beat Holyfield. You can say what you want about Lewis seeing a washed up Mike, but Mike was 49-3, and got an ass whipping against Holyfield and Lewis. Any version of Mike vs a prime Lewis is still very difficult matchup. I followed Mike all through his career and he was a beast but Lewis was a beast 2. He'd destroy Ruiz today.
The Rasta man was the best HW of his era and should be top 5 on everybody’s All time great HW's list...I’m just saying!! Plus he beats Mike 9 outta 10 times in my opinion
Does it matter ?
They're the same age
Lennox had the much tougher resume.
They fought
Mike was humiliated
Maybe he won the press conference match ?
They fought well after Tyson's prime. Everyone who knows boxing understands that Tyson was the more dangerous one when they were young. Lennox's skills were better honed later, after hiring Emmanuel Steward.
Lewis tries to remain relevant by making all these off comments from time to time. In regards to Lewis not being intimidated, he wasn't 2002. I wonder if the same can be said if it was 1988. Lewis was a great heavyweight, but suspect chin would more and likely be exposed against a prime Tyson.
c'mon, why would it be an attempt to remain relevant when the first you see it is when someone else chooses to post about it?
I am not sure why a top five ATG HW needs ro feel more relevant, is his intent to become a top three one by saying these things?
tyson fan here but i heard even in their early career, they sparred before and lewis got the better of tyson. this is why they kept tyson away from guys like lewis until towards the end of tyson's career.
Interesting. But, I remember Tyson calling Lennox out but I don't recall ever hearing Lennox calling Tyson out.
You can't really judge anything from the Tyson-Lewis fight. Tyson was really f-k'd up physically/mentally and financially by then and did not train for it...it was strictly a money grab to give to his creditors.
He said after the first round he was completely gassed and didn't know what he was going to do. I don't know if would have beaten Lewis when he was in his prime or not...but it would have been a very different fight and one I'd like to have seen. Tyson KO'd quite a few guys Lewis's size when he young and fast with great technical skills and power.
Prime for prime I would choose Mike over almost anyone. Height didn’t really matter all that much with him. Lewis fought a far lesser version of Tyson. Easy to sound cocky with that guy. The buzzsaw that was eating people up in his early career would’ve intimidated Lennox at some point. If not before the opening bell, then soon thereafter.
Lennox Lewis: "Tyson tried to intimidate me but I thought, ‘You’re 5'5, and I’m 6'5 and also, you are way past your prime" that should've been the full quote
Its actually the reverse but hey everyone is revisionist nowadays. Tyson was avoided because most fighters peaked later not earlier.
Lewis' amateur trainer Arnie Boehm, who adopted him as a child, recalled the sessions in an interview with the fighter's hometown paper The Record in Kitchener, Ontario.
"As each sparring session progressed, his dominance progressed,'' Boehm said.
I love Mike.... But i have never seen a guy get so many excuses b4 in the history of boxing.
Half his career is "Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda"
You can say the same thing about Zab Judah, Amir Khan, Joan Guzman, Victor Ortiz, the lists goes on with guys who Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda if you changed one weakness about them.
If those guys cant get that treatment why does Mike??
Tyson was a bully and an ass hole. I am glad Lewis beat the hell out of him. He was actually older than Tyson.
- -Older and more sissy enough to delay his Pro debut 4 yrs and wait until Mike was a shell of his prime.

Yea, we believe you.... Lol :lol1:
Don't have to believe me, just asked Atlas and whose who at that time in the HW division. Its pretty well known dude. Tyson peaked WAY EARLIER then Lewis, he also was not good at using his length when he was younger.
I'm pretty sure Bruno and Ruddock were in their prime AND competent.
Are you from the UK???? I ask because I've never met anyone outside the UK who thought Bruno was anything but trash. The seem to consider him a legend there though...
I agree! Early in their respective careers, Tyson was a KO monster and Lewis while talented, had a suspect chin.
