Think of a long stick swung through a pendulum. Bare with me!!
What has least movement - the end of the stick or the base?
The base right?
What does the head and especially the chin resemble? The end of the stick right?
The body is the base.
So why do so few boxers invest in body shots? Like 90% of all fighters are looking for that hail Mary shot on the chin or temple, which is like looking for the lottery.
I say respect to any boxer and trainer that realises body shots equals maximum opportunity.
Hit the body until the hands drop. Anywhere - chest, stomach, hips, shoulders. Heck, even the neck is easier to hit than the head.
Am I missing something here?
Nope, that's a top notch post that is.
I don't even mind a guy landing on the guard a ton. If they keep punching eventually they'll injure the man's arms and get through anyway.
that is true but the way I see it there is no way the guard can protect all the body - just the slightest side step brings the side of the torso in reach so a liver shot is on the cards - angles!
Also a body uppercut can damage a fighter who is trying to protect the sides of his abdomen. These are lost arts - or so it seems.
