Who do YOU want to see him fight next?
Well, what is a Catchweight? What does fighting at a Catchweight mean?
*those are real questions, not rhetorical*
But the bigger point is that whatever the case (whatever the technicalities would be), if Canelo demanded that Kovalev fight at any specific weight, then it would seriously undermind the TITLE/what the Title means.
A catchweight is a fight that takes place between weight limits.
If Canelo asked Kovalev to come down to 174lbs, that’s a catchweight.
Canelo called out Mayweather at a catchweight of 150lbs, but after some negotiating, the fight happened at a catchweight of 152lbs.
I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying.
You said Canelo vs Kovalev HAD to take place at 175lbs, and not a catchweight in order for the title to be on the line. I said no, that’s not true, Canelo could’ve demanded anything between 169lbs and 175lbs.
What is your argument?

What is a Catchweight ?
There is no pound that doesn't fall under one division or another. Yeah, 169 lbs would fall within the LHW limits, but if you mandate it to be a fight to be at anything but the MAX limit, it's a Catchweight fight. Weather technically the Title is on the line or not, that's what it would be.

Andre Ward gives him a Boxing Lesson
- -Insert multiples of low blows, headbutts, hitting on the break, elbows, thumbs in the eye, grabbing and holding.
And don't forget the Imelda Marcos shoe collection and Son of Gollum references!
No it didn’t have to be at exactly 175lbs for the title to on the line.
LHW is 169-175lbs. He could’ve made the fight at 169lbs for Kovalev’s LHW title.
Pacquiao fought Cotto at 145lbs for Cotto’s WBO WW title.
He fought Margarito at 150lbs for the vacant WBC Jr MW title.
Canelo might be short but he has a big frame. Not big enough to campaign at 175 just yet, but too big for 160. If he doesn’t want to Roy Jones himself he needs to steer clear of 160.

He fought Kovalev to try to win the LHW Title, not just some Catchweight fight. It had to be at LHW.
Did Canelo pack on crazy amount of muscle? No. His frame/size is Middleweight.
Canelo is a Middleweight. He'll go from 160 to 168, back and forth, if it looks like Andre Ward wants this smoke, then he'll fight at "175" again.

Callum smith. Canelo wont stay at 175 in my opinion and could possibly struggle to make 160. Smith is widely regarded as the best at 168 and I think it would be a top quality fight.
That's B.S. He's an average sized guy at 160, tbh. Maybe a little thick, maybe.
Daniel Jacobs, Golovkin, make 160 and they're bigger and older than Canelo.
I meant to say shouldn't.
Jacobs next fight is at 168.
Golovkin didn't just fight at 175.
He’s small for LHW, that’s why he will go down to 168. I think at 175 the closest guy to his physical size is Bivol and he would fight him in a unification fight. He is still very short for 168 but it’s better for him.
I think if he was going to go back down to 160, he would’ve made the Kovalev fight a catchweight, like Pacquiao was doing at 147 when he was still campaigning at 140.

He couldn't go below 168 anymore.
I'd love to see him fight Bivol.

Good info. I think he'll be back at MW. But the question is who do you want to see him fight next (what weight it's fought at is secondary, ya know).

I'd love to see him fight Bivol.
But he's tiny for LHW.
MW is not some unreachable weight. He's just putting it out there, that it's a tough weight cut, but he is willing to go back to MW for the right fight.

He is absolutely not going back to MW. That’s a negative.
He just fought at the full 175lb limit.
Maybe a MW will come up to fight him at 168.
