People like to talk down Pacs win over old ODL going up 2 weight divisions but going into the fight ODL was the favorite
odds were ODL -180 Pac+160, compared to Canelo who is a -420 and Kovalev +360
Save you looking
the reason why MANY fans started calling Pacquiao the catchweight king... is because they noticed that he had about 8/9 CONSECUTIVE weight-affected fights...
everyone knew they had to fight at manny-weight
manny-weight = 144
they pulled the big guys down... and they dragged the little guys up
nobody imagined all that lol
then you have NOOOOOO problem whatsoever with the supposed rehydration clause in the Canelo/Kovalev fight... right?
especially considering the fact that Canelo is jumping TWO divisions
and especially considering the fact that a rehydration clause is nowhere near as bad as a catchweight... right?
careful... I can easily do a post-history search
Seems fair.
That should not hinder his performance at all.
All fights should have at least a 10% re-hydration clause ring weight and 5% on the morning.

I don't have an issue with it
Never claimed I did.
Roach blowing smoke up his ass.
They did see Mosley and Cotto as a threat at 147lbs as Pacquiao was untested there and unsure how he could deal with these champions.
Hatton was a 140lbs guy and Oscar was past his best.
Cotto and Mosley would also have a stone advantage on him in the ring.
They along with Mayweather were the money fights.
To ask for a catchweight against champions for a fighter that has stepped up so much just recently is not unreasonable.

"Shane came to the gym twice to ask me to let him fight Manny," Roach says. "I told him no both times, and both times for the same two reasons: First, there isn't enough money there, and second, you're too good a fighter." - Freddie Roach

No he was not. Mosley even offered to fight at 140 and they turned it down.

ring tv
"Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto seem to have arrived at a sticking point in their negotiations to meet on Nov. 14: Pacquiao reportedly wants a catch weight of 143 pounds, Cotto wants it to be 145.
And one swirling rumor has it that Pacquiao is getting fed up and might look elsewhere for an opponent.
That might open the door for Shane Mosley, who has been pushing hard to fight the No. 1 attraction in boxing and announced Friday that he’d go down to 140 pounds if that’s what it takes to get a crack at Pacquiao’s RING junior welterweight title."
Stop lying.
Mosley was the #1 WW and lineal at the time. Pacquiao wanted none of it after seeing him destroy Margarito.
Mosley is all talk.
He was making those statements because Cotto was in negotiation and he wasn't
Thanks for proving that Cotto said he wanted the fight at 145lbs.
that is why everyone started calling pac the catchweight-king
that, and all of those mid-level Top Rank junior-welters who got dragged up to 144
Cotto wasn't going to fall for that trick again
Pacquiao was a former flyweight champ, who 18 months earlier was fighting at 130lbs, then had one fight at 135lbs.
For Hatton and Oscar he barely got over 140lbs
Then he went to 147lbs and targeted Mayweather, Cotto and Mosely.
Mayweather expertly took himself out of the equation by fighting Marquez and announcing it on the eve of the Hatton bout.
Yes he did offer catchweight fights to Mosley and Cotto, But Pacquiao was going up far more than Cotto came down.
Yes and Mosley was offered the same deal as Cotto.
Cotto took it, Mosley didn't.

Yeah, easy to make for a 140lbs guy.
Didn't Cotto also come in at 146lbs against Clottey, his fight previous
Pacquiao offered the fight at 143 first, Cotto said 145lbs, and the deal was done.
Pacquiao made the same deal to Mosley as well.

Pac after having just 1 fight at 135, was required to move up 2 more weight classes for that fight, its very hard for a fighter to move up 3 weight classes in such a short period of time. Its like after Pac proved that he can be pretty dominant at WW, that people suddenly forgot how ridiculous the fans and media though of the fight and how much criticism ODLH received for such a blatant cherry pick opponent.
Truth right here. Analysts were worried Pac would get killed in the ring. He went from the most egregarious cherry pick to the complete opposite. Haters then crafted the story that Pac dragged ODLH down and weight drained his fishnetting ass, lol.
You lying ****. Pacquiao ducked Mosley after Mosley beat Margarit., Mosley even went to the Wild Card and he was told he was too good. GTFOH with your BS.
Yes and Mosley was offered the same deal as Cotto.
Cotto took it, Mosley didn't.
145lb Cotto... ?

I think Pacquiao was 3/1 underdog.
People made excuses for Oscar because they couldn't believe what Pacquiao had done.
But Pacquiao's level was confirmed with Hatton and then Cotto.

But no one had ever done beating delahoya like that except pac. Floyd could only win a controversial split decision.
nobody else ever fought Oscar at 145/145/145
145 two weeks out... 145 at the weighin... 145 on fight night
it is clearly obvious what happened
Roach, whispering to Pac when he noticed the IV marks on Oscars arm at the weighin: .......... " we got him "
it was the UNPRECEDENTED $3.5m per-pound, or part thereof, weight penalty
the only bigger weight-penalty in recorded boxing history, was also made by Pacquiao... on Floyd Mayweather
it was $10m per-pound, or part thereof... and Floyd signed immediately
Floyd was a welter... Oscar, was not
145/145/145 Oscar... would have lost to EVERY top welter, and most top JWW's
something that anyone could achieve... is NOT amazing lol
But no one had ever done beating delahoya like that except pac. Floyd could only win a controversial split decision.
Well one is seen as a Prime the best fighter in the sport right now the other was seen as a washed up past prime fighter facing his first real live dog in awhile. So makes sense.
So a 36 year old Kovalev is prime but a 34 year old Oscar isn't.
You do know Oscar fought Mayweather a year earlier right?
This was essentially a 130lber coming to 147(he only fought once at 135). No matter how you slice its a good win. Especially how he beat him. Name any one at 130-140 who could not only make ODL look bad but just beat the living crap outta him like Pac did. That's the difference.
I think Pacquiao was 3/1 underdog.
People made excuses for Oscar because they couldn't believe what Pacquiao had done.
But Pacquiao's level was confirmed with Hatton and then Cotto.
He looked horrible against Forbes man, damn good win by Manny as Oscar thought he had a good cherry pick and got embarrassed but no need to exaggerate the level Oscar was at...Manny doesn't need the excuses as that isnt even one of his best wins..JUST A NICE PAY DAY
Oscar won every round, he was criticized because he never stopped Forbes, even though Forbes was never stopped before.
Oscar had wanted to fight Cotto in his last fight, but Margarito won, and Oscar didn't want to fight a Mexican star, which Margarito was, as he wanted the love from the Mexican fans and lost Mexican fans with the JCC fight.
Pacquiao was the biggest name, it was a fight he thought he would win. Oscar was coming back down to 147lbs, no matter what in his final fight.
Nothing is being exaggerated, look at what people said before the fight, it was a mismatch in Oscar's favor.
Yes, this was not a prime Oscar, but neither was the shut out Forbes or the one that Floyd just got a win over.
