same thing i say about canelo/golovkin applies to most here...
canelo was 27...was he supposed to fight him sooner and jump right up to MW and fight golovkin right off the bat? we cant take fighters and magically make their fights prime for prime.....thatd be fun and nice....but fighters peak or arrive at "star" status at different times....some make it quicker...others take more time.....what happened between golovkin/canelo wasnt someone playing the "waiting game" for the other guy to get old...it was canelo waiting until the time was right/best for him to make the move
he had to jump on floyd early or probably never get it....some of the other guys...i mean he was still on the come up against shane and shane just happened to be old and past it.....cotto still performed well but that fight hit its stride when it did....
it would be great if we could take all of the fighters canelo fought and make them their 27-29 year old versions...its just not possible...dont hate on canelo for being born when he was....thats just irrational
Didn’t he just jump up and fight kov straight off the bat, your argument is terrible
So he fought Mosley at age 21
unified with Trout who was coming off of beating Cotto
fought p4p #1 Floyd
Lara who was at his peak and considered one of the best in and around the division
moved up and fought lineal champ Cotto coming off of knocking out Martinez and 180+lb Geale
undefeated "boogeyman" GGG coming off his best win over Jacobs
Jacobs coming off of a win over Chenko and going tooth and nail with GGG
So he's beaten hall of famers and champs who have held their own vs hall of famers along several other champs (with varying styles), all at an age when many other middleweights are just building their legacy (GGG was 33 before he faced his first reigning champ and Andrade has only fought a single regular champ at age 32)-- and now he's moving up to face a knock out puncher in his 4th division, yet that's somehow meant to be a knock against him?
Lol @ Curt bringing up the Floyd fight instead of GGG fights. There's no problem with him taking the Floyd fight, while Floyd was old, Canelo was too green on the other hand and it was a risk worth taking as Floyd isn't known as a fighter taking the years off his opponents' careers. Why not mention GGG fights instead? He was pretending he was a junior middleweight for 2-3 years before fighting GGG, while finally weighting more then GGG in the ring. He was pretending he was a junior middleweight while at the same time not being able to make the junior middleweight limit so he invented what became to be known as Caneloweight. Oh yes, he also threw his WBC belt in the trash in the process. He also put a 1 way rehydration clause on the smaller, old azz Cotto, while not being under the same clause himself.
those were the most notable fights he could get.....was he supposed to wait on floyd? lol...he was 24.....
its circumstance....canelo wanted star power names...just so happened some of them were at the end of their rope when the fights happened....
was canelo supposed to get a time machine and be born sooner?
what stars is he avoiding that are more age appropriate?Poor mistreated Canelo born too late. :bottle::bottle::bottle:
Morales is just a hater!
Canelo kos chavez, morales, barrera, marquez, salvador sanchez, margarito, chavez jr, and gilberto Ramirez on the dame nightWhat the fuc are you talking about???? He already fought walking punching bag Chavez Jr and could not knock him down let alone KO him. He is not in the same weight class with the others. Try to pay attention to real world boxing and keep up, Canelo is very good but I doubt Mexicans will ever consider him as good as Chavez or Sanchez because he isn't.
some people say the same about floyd...."his resume lacks wins over top level opponents in their primes" yet history will remember him fondly
a guy like canelo isnt going through his career fighting high risk low reward guys that dont bring money or name recognition.....and most wouldnt if they had the road canelo had....
canelos legacy is already secured....he has a chance to take it to cult level status in the next however many years he has leftCanelo was a 13 to 1 favorite to beat Fall down Field for which he was paid 15 million buck, He was 4 to 1 to beat Jacobs for which he was paid 35 million bucks. He is a 4.5 to 1 favorite to beat Kovalev for which he will be paid 35 million bucks. High risk low reward fights?????? Yeah, right.
Canelo’s notable fights/wins:
Mosley aged 40.
Trout aged 27.
Mayweather aged 36.
Lara aged 31.
Cotto aged 35.
Golovkin aged 35.
Golovkin aged 36.
Jacobs aged 32.
Kovalev aged 36.
Does Morales have a point?Yes he does. Kovlev is an obvious cherry pick when Beterbiev and Bivol and Callum Smith were all available. He could have given GGG an immediate rematch instead of fighting weak fighter fall down Fielding and then GGG leftover Jacobs and now old man Kovalev.. It's clear he won't fight GGG again until he is pushing 40.
He has a point but fighters can only face whoever is the best available at the time and Canelo has done it several times.
Everybody’s resume can be nitpicked but Ive always known canelo as somebody who isnt afraid of real fights. He isnt a ducker.
Of Course Morales is Right
Every Future HOF he’s fought was 35+ when he fought them a age when every boxer is on the slide
That wasn’t done by Coincidence, It’s the Strategy you get the Young $ earner of the sport has the financial pull to get the big names in the Ring with and he gets to have the scalp of the Previous greats when they aren’t the same fighter
Fans / Media don’t give a sh.it they just assume every win is built the same so The young $ man gets more credit then he deserves for beating down past legends
Arum used the same strategy in the 1st half of Dela Hoyas career to build his Brand , Chavez / Pernell / Camacho all on their last legs when Iscar scalped Them. Notice when Iscar started facing Prime Elites in the 2nd half of his career he almost always lost
It’s not just who you fight but when you fight them
Canelo has by far the best resume of his era, but a lot of its smoke & mirrors , Canelos always been a draw and can pick and choose not only who he fights but when he fights them whether it’s age / Size / inactivity it’s almost always the most advantageous to him. Because of this He can get the big names while also avoiding his biggest threats who don’t have the name without much complaining from fans / media
This fight is a perfect example he’s fighting Kov who’s past prime on his last legs while avoiding the biggest threats in his division ( Andrade / Charlo ) and no one cares because they’ve been hypnotized by the name Kov brings to the fight not the chance of him winning
I don’t think the criticism’s are as legitimate with Floyd. Corralles, Castillo, Judah, Cotto, Canelo (arguably pre prime) Hatton etc.
Canelo’s legacy is far from secure, he’s had a memorable career thus far but his legacy is nowhere near the level of a Floyd, Pacquiao, De La Hoya etc. And surely they are the guys he wants to emulate.
canelo was called too green...cotto was the same age as jacobs was when he fought canelo( i think off top of head...am i right)....judah was talked about as not as good as we thought....1st castillo fight is talked about as an L by many....

canelos legacy is already secured....he has a chance to take it to cult level status in the next however many years he has left

His earlier fights such as Floyd and Mosley couldn’t have happened any sooner, and Canelo was very young, so he somewhat deserves credit for facing a guy like Mayweather at 23.
The GGG fight definitely could and should have happened sooner. All that 155 lb catchweight and marinating BS was on Team Canelo and arguably Canelo himself.
I think this next decade will define Canelo’s legacy, will he fight a Andrade or Charlo, if he continues to fight above 160 will he fight a Smith or a Bivol.
he’s undoubtedly a great fighter but (whether intentional or not) his resume evidently lacks wins over top level opponents in their primes.

Bivol, Beterbiev, Callum Smith, BJS, Plant, Benvidez, Andrade, Charlo.
not a single damn one of them have star power.....and careful...you still might get smith or bivol....remember...canelo aint 37
andrade? why doesnt golovkin fight him instead of an unordered ibf mando? i mean...both guys are right there with DAZN...easy fight to make....canelo is taking a challenge....
not a single one of those guys hold the same weight in boxing as even old ass shane, floyd, cotto or golovkin...or even kovalev to be honest
