You really have to give it up for Porter. Out of all he PBC boxers Porter is the only one (by far) to try and achieve a hall of fame career,(not saying he is a 1st ballot type fighter) fight the best, and try to leave a lasting legacy.
What is so inspiring about Porter is that he is not a great fighter although he is a good fighter. They used to say about Holyfield that he was an over-achiever although Porter is not close to the class Holyfield is in, we can say with certainty the same thing about Porter.
Out of all the top PBC fighters he is the only one to actually back up his talk about fighting the best. He has fought Brook (when Brook was at his best),he fought Broner when Broner was still a good fighter,he fought Thurman before Thurman was chronically injured and in his prime/best. He also fought Danny Garcia and now he fought the supposed boogey man of the welterweight division and was very close to beating him. Other good fighters he has faced Ugas and Granados come to mind.
Other names include Malignaggi and Porter became the first fighter to ko him. He took on R Guerrero, Devon Alexander, and Julio Diaz (twice). And the fights he lost were all very close and competitive. I would have to say that Porter is the most respectable, old school fighter in the PBC and also one of a few in boxing in general. All the top fighters in PBC should be embarrassed that a less talented fighter has not only so far had a better more productive career than them, but they should be embarrassed that they have not challenged themselves the same way Porter has challenged himself.
Porters just one tough dude. He’s a big welterweight too. He has thick muscles I think it helps him absorb punches better.
You got that right
Porter is one tough sob
I was thinking the same thing last night but I came to the conclusion that it would fugh up his unorthodox style
Imo , it would be a big change up and difficult for him to perform at this point in his career
I’ll give Spence that much , he is a very accurate with his shots when he is not being pressured
Still , I can’t believe he has no power , he really never came close to a ko , even the knockdown imo was a flash knockdown

Idk if he sat down on his punches and focused more on his technique he would generate more power?
Proper punching placement can do wonders. Spence’s shot was just a sharp, accurate, picture perfect punch. It wasn’t even thrown that hard. It didn’t really look like he put a lot on it. It was just timed right, was sharp, and landed right where it need to land and at the right time and it scored the KD.

I think that was the difference in the fight
He just couldn’t hurt him
Spence knocking Porter down , even though imo it was a flash knockdown , still showed he has some power
If Porter had Garcia power , I think he could of really broken Spence down especially in the first part of the fight
Porter did slow down in the second half , he really gave his all

You've got to respect a fighter who will get in there with anyone. Brook, Thurman, Garcia, Spence..he hasn't ducked anyone. Rare for WWs these days.
A throwback fighter, and a good one. He gives his opponents hell.
Actually, this is a great point. If he had the one punch, thudding power that say Spence, Canelo, or even Garcia has, he would be a dangerous dude.
Some have that power in the gloves and some don’t.

Anybody calling Porter a C level fighter or his resume is straight out fughin insane
He might not get all the W’s but he’ll make you work for it
Also , too bad he doesn’t have just a bit more power

Great post and threads, massive respect for this thread. I agree with everything you said. He is also very active for a PBC fighter. He has fought almost everyone at 147. His body of work at 147 is up there and win or lose he gives you a tough fight. Am sure Spence would wake up this week and know he is been in his toughest fight till date.

Good post.. credit where it’s due. Porter put his money where his mouth is.
AND I know for sure many doubted he will indeed fight spence after beating garcia.
He has my support for the remainder of his career.
He’s not a diva either.. and if he gets a crawford offer i think he’ll take it too..
Porters a throwback boxer.
Dude goes to war every time he get in the ring. Not everyone wants to do that, or capable to do that, but Porter does it.
He’s not the prettiest or the cleanest of boxers, and some might not like his style, but you can’t discredit what he brings.
I’d say he’s just a notch below the truly elite level, but he’s a tough out for any of the top guys. He’s proven that.
some people are calling him "C level" to discredit spence's victory (crawford's fans) i agree that spence seems reluctant to talk about him or even acknowledge crawford but that has nothing to do with porter who is no C level fighter. porter himself would be a tough fight for crawford.
Let's see if Porter gets to fight Crawford soon.

Spence tried to fight all of them when he was coming up. They never gave him the chance but he is doing it now.

Yeah, Porter's done great for himself and is always in shape to bring it. The Thurman and Spence fights could have easily gone to him. I think Brook is the only guy to clearly beat him.
