Man i rly liked this podcast, you can tell Andre got a strong mental fortitude and the right attitude, likeable guy too, check it out:

I caught it the other day. Really good interview. It's always funny to me the hate people have for Rogan. The guy brings very interesting on and let's them talk.
Yeah Rogan seems about as neutral as you can get on a lot of the 'political' issues which is nice/smart...most people don't want to be inundated with that stuff everywhere they turn...I think it gives him license to have people from all over on the show and they can get into some good topics.
Yeah it was a good watch and definitely enjoyed Wards breakdown especially on the mental side of the game.
Very interesting that most of the posts are from guys that flat out hate Ward, why do you guys bother? lol
Confused admiration is what it really is. I tend to ignore people I don't like but those on here give people they don't like so much energy. Strange.
In general I agree with you Ali...that it is strange that so many on here dedicate so much time and energy towards fighters they don't like...so many posts/posters on here seem to get really emotional about the hate as well, which seems like a big waste of time and energy.
In this case though there were a few of us wondering what the 2+ hour long talk entailed...and whether they got into any of the controversial parts of Ward's career...some convos spun off of that...don't really see anyone going overboard about it or really caring that much tbh.
Ward was a really tough smart fighter imo...but never really saw the top level boxing skills from him against B level guys and above...feel he benefited from always being the home fighter and winning a high percentage of his close rounds and also getting away with some of the dirty tactics he would employ.
No hate at all just how I and some other saw it...again he seems like a pretty good guy overall and was definitely very tough and smart...even if he received some favoritism you had to be tough and smart to employ his style often and even somewhat effectively
Wards an elite fighter who many slighted as not being great in any particular attribute as in speed, power, etc but his boxing brain has to be on that elite level. He was able to beat guys people didn't think he could beat by having a great game plan and adapting to his opponent. He also had just enough power to keep guys honest. He also had phenomenal stamina and grit. One of my favorite fighters and my only gripe is that he didn't fight more and travel. He could of done so much more with his career.
On the bold...I think that is a lot of people's point about him...he was always the home fighter his whole career and won probably 90% of the close rounds in his career as a result...and also with his style having a home referee was almost necessary and certainly a huge plus.
I just don't think he would have been the same fighter/had the same accolades as a pro had he been from Cuba or Guatemala.
;20041893']imo the 1st fight was close but the knockdown tipped it into Kovalevs favor imo so definetly didnt like that Ward was gifted that win, the 2nd fight however Ward was clearly winning imo,
Man no offense...but how can anyone say he was in that first fight at all...he got beat 5-1 (it was as close to 6-0 as it was 4-2) in the first 6 rounds...and the last 6 were even with the clearest round going to Kov in the 10th.
And the 2nd fight was much more competitive in the first 6-7 rounds vs the 1st fight...but Kov still outlanded him in 6/7 rounds...felt 5-2 Kov was probably the right score after 7, but Ward was much more in that fight, and could have legitimately won it in the end...dirty tactics and low blows notwithstanding.
Just don't see how anyone can say with those stats that it was Ward who was 'clearly winning' lol..no offense, sincerely...I guess we can all see what we want/need to see sometimes.
I'm just curious if ward had ever made those claims though? Had he ever said so himself that's he's the best? I've heard many other people say it and give him the accolades. I have heard ward mention that it's not his job to rate himself, he'll let the people decide that.
And I'm talking about when he was active.
During the interview, Ward said he'll leave it to others to debate his place in history, but he did tell Rogan that because of his "hit without getting hit style" many people don't recognize that he's one of the toughest fighters of the last 10 years.
I caught it the other day. Really good interview. It's always funny to me the hate people have for Rogan. The guy brings very interesting on and let's them talk.
I liked the interview too, but Rogan told Ward that he thought that Roy Jones Jr. used PEDs to bulk up for his Heavyweight fight because he was able to bulk up in his 30s. Yet, Rogan always defends Jon Jones who tested positive for PEDs twice in his 30s and has a different physique then he did in his 20s.
Yeah it was a good watch and definitely enjoyed Wards breakdown especially on the mental side of the game.

I really like Ward as a man and respect him a lot but I just was not at all excited about how he fought and think he was gifted twice against Kovalev and should stop talking like some kind of expert on how to beat him. He definitely lost the first fight and was losing the 2nd until he started getting in illegal n@t shots. Thinking that he was on his way to winning anyways certainly acceptable, I just don't think he deserved to win the way he did.
imo the 1st fight was close but the knockdown tipped it into Kovalevs favor imo so definetly didnt like that Ward was gifted that win, the 2nd fight however Ward was clearly winning imo, and that right hand that got Kovalev into trouble before the stoppage was beautiful, but the stoppage was just so anticlimactic, sure there might have been 1 or 2 clean bodyshots out of those lowblows but it rly was a shame how that fight ended, Ward was doing so well and was on his way to the biggest win of his career and then he goes and ends the fight like that, i rly disliked that, it left a sour taste of dissatisfaction, and i also didnt agree with him retiring after, i wouldve liked to see him stay @ LHW and have like 2-3 more fights then retire, but that was never his agenda so ohwell i guess... i always liked Ward as a fighter, sure he did fight dirty but he was so crafty and so skilled that to me as a fan of the sweet science i rly enjoyed watching him punk his opponents, but all in all he had a great career with lots of good names on his record, so got nothing but respect for him getting out of the game with everything intact
I will check it out. Rogan is a good interviewer, lets the people talk usually. A 2 hour or longer format gives them a lot of time for people to talk a lot. I cant watch those things in their entirety but the clips and pieces are great. If I had a long commute I would probably listen to them in the car but I dont.
Rogain doesnt know anywhere near what he thinks he does about boxing though, but thats fine once youre used to it.
Oh yea i agree. Ward is definitely one smug mother sucker
Yeah just always rubbed me the wrong way...and that is separate from any opinions I may have on his boxing ability
Ward comes across as a genuine guy and someone who is articulate. It was a very good interview, and I made it till the end, all 1.5+ hrs of it. We need more interviews like this.
Yeah good interview. I have never understood the hate Ward seems to get from his fellow countrymen He seems to get more love in The UK lol. He wins an Olympic Gold medal for USA and all he gets is hate. IMO a great role model for kids.

The very last thing in the whole world that I want to do is listen to Andre Ward talk about himself.
The man was a gold medalist and world champion that didnt have two fans together to make a third during his run, all due to his shit personality. All he does is quote the bible and complain.

If he's never said it outright I certainly feel like he has insinuated it...I think he was a really tough smart fighter for the record...just never really saw great 'boxing' skills from him against B level guys or above...and think he benefited from fighting at home with the scorecards and getting away with some dirty boxing.
I mentioned in another post...if he was a little more humble about his successes, then I wouldn't really have an issue with him...I do feel like he has always given off that vibe though that he was the greatest...can't think of a quote off-hand but I'm sure one can be found.
On another note I just read that Ward-Froch was billed as 'no excuses' lol...“This fight should be dubbed, ‘No Excuses.’ If Carl Froch beats me, there won’t be any excuses. I beat Carl Froch, there shouldn’t be any excuses. No judges, no referees, no nothing. May the best man win.”
Thought that was funny since that was the same way Ward Kov 2 was billed
