I keep seeing people on this site constantly go on about how canelo is a huge puncher, and has destructive body work. Suddenly he's going to ko a full fledged light heavyweight in kovalev? My question is,who has canelo ko'd or dropped that shows he has the ability to do so? Let's look at his Kos and knockdowns in his last 15 fights.
Fieldings (tko) paper champion who had been demolished by Callum in one round. Showed up for a paycheck to be a punching bag.
Liam Smith (ko) paper champ at 154 who won a vacant title and hadn't fought anyone of note before canelo. Still went 9 rounds with the guy.
Amir Khan (ko).... Need I say more?
James Kirkland( ko) weight drained and chinny as hell. Previously destroyed by a pillow punching ishida in one round.
Angulo(tko) he was a custom made punching bag,and yet the referee had to stop the fight since it got embarrassing that canelo couldn't put him away. Has been stopped by both Kirkland and Lara.
Austin trout (Ud) only decent fighter who canelo managed to drop.
Lopez (tko) Fought a blown up 140 lb fighter and 154. Was never good to begin with, and best win was a post Maidana and mayweather Ortiz.
Canelo has decent power that gets people's respect but he is by no means a big puncher. He only shines with chinny, undersized, weight drained,or crappy fighters. He is incredibly overrated on this site in the power department, and is not going to stop a dude who is used to taking punches from full fledged light heavies.
Yeah I've been arguing this exact same point to many Nelo fans, they don't get it. They're too stupid to.
You're stupid for falling into the category of fans.
Canelo`s power would be no problem for Kovalev, that is for sure. Canelo couldn`t drop Jacobs or GGG , how do people expect him to hurt Kovalev?
To the body same way ward did. Canelo in those fights op mentioned was still growing he's a full fledged middleweight/168 pounder who has honed his craft. Ask yourself this if he wasnt a great puncher why didn't ggg walk through him in 48 rounds? Im not a canelo fan at all just looking at it rationally is all.
Chavez was just in over his head. He's a B-rate fighter and he mailed it in that night, pulled a Clottey and put his earmuffs on so he could last the distance. GGG adjusted his game plan based upon Canelo's style. Which, in the eyes of most was good enough because he was robbed in those fights, and he walked through most of Canelo's punches. To Canelo's credit he took GGG's best punches as well. They both have world class chins.
i respect your opinion but i disagree...
they were both gun shy for most of the fight... chavez has fought bigger fighters than canelo and i never seen him gunshy like that... same happened to lara who traded much more with the likes of angulo or paul williams, but once canelo started to land he wanted no more of a fight... also ggg quited on his mexican style for a reason...

I don't think it's his power that creates the KO's as much as his pressure and creating openings with combinations. I'd also say his size advantage plays a factor as well as quality of his opposition. Look what happened when he fought Cotto and Chavez Jr., Cotto held his ground even though he was considerably smaller in that fight and Chavez stood there like a human punching bag and took all of Canelo's best shots.

Speed kills the most IMO. And timing.
He has the timing, but he's not all that fast, unless he is in there with a lumbering journeymen. Good quickness but not anything special.

Canelo has power. He has a lot of things. You guys have to deal with it. If you're going to criticize the guy, his career moves, gifts from judges, and failed test are the things to criticize. As a boxer, he's pretty damn solid.
Canelo has power... is he a massive power puncher? No. He's also not really a brawler... and easy way to compare it would be to someone like JMM or Floyd... there's no one who fought them that really just walked through without a regard for their punches even though they weren't your typical power punchers. Canelo is similar he has above average power... with good timing and speed. It's enough to make a guy second guess and throw off his gameplan which is evident with the GGG fights considering GGG is supposed to have a granite chin.
- -Yes.
We all know 90% of boxing fans and officials can't do basic math.
Everything is about their girly feelings.
Canelo is still a LW, apparently .. because he's still 5' 8"
:lol1:
You're wrong , cause your basing CANELO's "size" based on his walk around weight. 99% of boxer's cut weight , to determine there weight class in which they fight in. CANELO is 5 ft. 8 inches tall & he can easily make 160 pounds , therefore his size is a small middleweight compared to the rest in the division.
I understand, you can't argue against facts. In boxing we don't go by walk around weight, we go buy what weight you can make the day before a fight , that's your size , then we compare the other 2 categories height & reach.
How many fight's after CANELO makes 160 did the commission stop & prevent from taking place cause kafkod said CANELO walks around at 200 pounds though? Lol
No, I'm deducing Canelo's size from the fact that he was entering the ring at over 170lbs after making 154, and by the fact that he weighed in at 167.4 for a SMW title fight last year.
Canelo's height and reach is the same now as it was at the start of his career.
So why has he moved up 5 divisions since his debut at lightweight?
Answer - Because he's bigger now than he was back then
Jesus ... did I really need to explain that to a so-called boxing fan?

No it isn't."Boxing size" is determined by weight and weight alone.
I''m not going to waste any more time discussing boxing with somebody who needs something as basic as that explaining to them, and doesn't even want to learn.

When you consider that he could not stop cotto or Mosley who by the way one was severely hurt and stopped by Pacquiao and Mosley was dropped and took 3 rounds to remember where he was lol.
Canelo is not a big puncher and could not hurt anybody naturally above 154lb.
It’s his timing and placement of punches that canelo is good at ...not punch power
What a stupid statement :pat:

mosley said that canelo hits about as hard as welterweight mayweather. canelo's power is completely absolutely overrated. what top fighter has he stopped?????????? none.
That make him even more impressive, he is about to fight a lhw and has the height and the power of a welterweight #GoatNelo
