Just came up on my YouTube feed today and gave it a watch. Chino won 5 out of the first 6...and the 6th which I gave Floyd was razor close. 1 or 2 of the later rounds were also swing rounds, Floyd just finished a few of them strong.
Both guys fought well, Maidana especially fought an amazing fight, he was like a front running horse who comes flying out and then tries to hang on to the lead. Floyd realised half way through the 6th that he needed to get off first more often to win, I'm not at all convinced he did enough though. It's a shame because I think it would have made the rematch much bigger, and if either guy deserved a bit of luck that night it was Maidana.
Floyd paid Maidana 1.5 million$ so that he would agree to wear pillows instead of the gloves that he wore every other fight in his career. That's an embarrassing fact, and puts a big dent in Floyd's image and legacy.
Been saying this.
I've watched the Castillo right a couple times since it aired, and don't see how anyone can have a problem with Floyd getting the W. Those rounds were close. I score it for Floyd when I watch it.
Maidana I, however... man. I scored that fight giving the rounds I viewed as close in my eyes to Floyd and I still had it for Maidana. Maidana won that fight.
Everyone's got an opinion, though.
I never realised what an imprint Maidana put on the first half of the fight, you have to be looking to give Floyd rounds to score any of those first 6 for him. Too much laying on the ropes, and he was out landed, plain and simple. 4 and 6 you can make a case for Floyd, 6 is a swing round, but he got beat up for most of that first half.
If your talking about, heart and determination, a winning mentality, things he doesn't normally have to show so much of, then it was a really impressive performance from Floyd, he dug himself out of a hole...I'm just not at all convinced he did enough to win. Despite some of the stupid comments here, I have no agenda...I'm looking at the fight objectively. My pre-fight prediction was that Floyd would win easy, and send Maidana to the hospital for facial damage. He proved many people wrong and for me deserved a draw at least.
Okay but let me try one rephrase before I drop it.
My point was hindsight and bias. As a Floyd fan it is easy for me to just say " I seen Floyd whoop that ass and here's why" BUT really all I'm doing is talking about my own biases. That fight can go which ever depending on what you're looking for. I may be a Floyd fan but if Rocco and Wilder in my avy and sig don't tell you I'm a power puncher fan more than anything and I ain't so high on Floyd I wouldn't like to see him get walloped, that's a hell of a skilled puncher who wallops Money.
So, yeah, live, I leaned Money. Rewatch I was feeling like I was more wanting to see a Money win then seen a money win. I was understanding the Chino fans point of view and thinking well **** maybe. Then the rematch happened and Floyd made his case clearly.
The first fight can be scored for one or the other based of things like posture. The second fight can't, to me the second affirms the first. I seen Floyd whoops that ass, Chino fans made a good argument to me about how Chino whooped that ass, then I definitely seen Floyd whoop that ass and knew them chino fans was wrong the whole time.
It wasn't until the rematch that I was sure I believe Floyd won the first one. I kept that door open until Floyd made his case.
They were 2 separate events, 2 separate fights. It's like saying the brawl in Montreal was close but you thought Ray Leonard won it, and the rematch he dominated confirmed what you thought happened in the first fight, even though Duran deservedly won it...it doesn't make sense.
Floyd won the rematch because he applied what he learned in the first fight in the rematch.
From Maidana's side, just because your successful once, it doesn't guarantee you'll be successful again.
The logical thing to do is judge both fights on their own merit...simple.

Floyd won both fights. The first fight wasn't easy. He landed some hard shots but he missed too many shots to saynthat he won. I can't find 6-7 rounds that Maidana won. Foh lmao...
I wouldn't complain about that result, but IMO Chino's work was overrated. It was a lot of ineffective aggression and not much clean work over the 2nd of the half of the fight. Him throwing a boatload of punches just made it look more interesting. Floyd had the better scoring punches.
I had Maidana up 4-2 halfway through. Floyd picked up the pace the second half to steal some rounds. I thought it would be a draw right after as I don’t think a Vegas judge was taking Floyd’s 0 for Maidana.
H o e s m a d
Lol yep. Everyday they start out with a thread about Mayweather. Yesterday they made one about his *****
then at the same time they say he’s irrelevant and no1 cares about him. There’s hardly any Pacquiao threads
I thought Floyd won 7 to 5 Maidana won first 5 but Floyd took over after but some rounds were still close.
Chino def surprised me his rough close smother style followed by his jab gave Floyd problems and Floyd trying to fight on the inside didn't help.
But Floyd's fast hands and counters are what won him the fight after the 5th he upped his defence and started timing him better and getting his combos off first.
What the Floyd haters don’t understand is that Floyd allowed Chino his style because he would still control the GLOVES points wise. It’s an example what Lara couldn’t do against Canelo. Canelo had to match power shots and body work which inevitably is what the judges liked. Holding Floyd and hitting him to the body ala DLH wasn’t going to give Oscar the fight because circumstance tells you that Oscar should’ve outboxed Floyd if it’s pure vs pure. Plus Floyd was just quicker and crispier as he was against Canelo. When Floyd is in dangerous fights he maintains range and pocket fighting for point to point challenges, similar to the way Crawford expects to counter.
With Chino, the only way he could milk two fights with an easy brawler (for Floyd) was to welcome his style.
Maidana was able to advance on Floyd the way Kirkland did to Canelo on the ropes for a couple of rounds. It looks nice, but not enough. Difference is Canelo wanted to hurt Kirkland. Floyd was coasting a show.
Many people don’t even realize that Floyd and Haymon have subliminal messages particularly in their entrances. Bieber, rappers, to a Circus Ringling Bros. (maidana). This is obvious trolling for a “show.” Masters at metaphors.
Mehm Floyd is a guy who only fought when he had all advantages to him covered.
Notice how worried & unsure Floyd looked when Jimmy was reading the scorecards? He knew he didn’t do enough. Luckily though the lady luck pitied him that night.
They had a rematch...there's no point in crying now. Maidana got his chance to prove his dominance and failed. Nothing to whine about. Everyone on here admits is was close....and then Chino lost in a not so close rematch...which kind of proves the other side was dominant.
I agreed with JMM the whole time, he whoop Pac and got robbed repeatedly, he said he was getting robbed and has to KO him, then he KO'd Pac. That's how you prove you are and were always better. You say nope, whooped his ass and will prove it, then you go whoop his ass, not get your ass whooped.
I knew I'd get this type of reply and whilst I value your input, it's irrelevant to the subject. We are discussing the first fight on it's own merit, the scoring and the quality of the fight.
Yes Floyd won the second fight, no argument. Your point about Marquez also doesn't make sense as it took him 4 tries to knock him out and for the record, I thought JMM won fight 2 and 3, but not everyone did.
I haven't watched it since the night it happened, but I remember it being a very close fight.
My feeling on the night was that Floyd nicked it, but sometimes I score in a way that I think the judges might. Today i scored the fight on it's own merit.
Give it a second watch when you have a chance and report back
