What's up? It seems like we get Joe Calzaghe appreciation threads every 4-6 weeks.

Joe has a win over BH. And is unbeaten but is generally not considered as great as BH? He should feel hard done by. As Floyd has a win over Pac and is unbeaten, yet there are a vocal FEW who think Floyd is greater than Pac. Vocal Few being the operative words. JOe probably wishes there was a few who would back him also. There probably are some, but they aren't that vocal and wouldn't be taken seriously similar to FLoyd fans.

You'll claim X is good, he'll claim X isn't so good. You will give evidence for X being worthy, he will give evidence of X being ****ty. On the other hand joe arguably lost that fight. Joe also fought the middleweight Bika who later in his career also won a title at SMW and defended it more than joe did (once).

An ATG whose only big win was against Lacy? LMAO. He's not even top-3 on the ATG in the UK. I'd rank Ricky Hatton above. Hatton had the dog in him despite his flaws. Hatton and Froch both left joe behind. DeGale has the same number of recognised title fight wins as Calzaghe, with better wins, with Groves just behind. Its a shame DeGale let himself go, he didnt have the staying power of Calzaghe and he might have surpassed him along with froch if he had kept his head out of the clouds.

HOFer but grossly overrated by Brits. The problem is that he never fought anyone great in their prime. I love how Brits tend to make Lacy into something (someone here said he was the "next Mike Tyson" - LAUGHABLE) but we all know Lacy was an overrated chump. Kessler is his biggest win and Kessler was 2nd-rater who piled up victories against no-names but lost against very good fighters. Joe's victory against old Hopkins was good but Bernie was far past his prime and still gave Calzaghe fits. His victory against washed up RJJ means absolutely nothing because RJJ was FAR past his prime. He's got a hell of a record but not much of a resume.

did you think he was an exciting boxer to watch? Yes absolutely! Even when he was having to slow down aggresive fighter, it was the technique that was interesting and even more those moment when he would do his funny brawls (we called it his kitten paws style)

I liked Calzaghe for many of the reasons that have been listed already but I think the Lacy win is overblown. The kid was a short, slow, one handed novice and I couldn't understand why people thought it was a 50/50 fight. Kessler, Woodhall and Reid are much better wins. I thought he lost to Bernard and wanted none of prime Roy but I enjoyed watching him.

The hopkins fight was pretty close, people forget that and that Hopkins had a knockdown the thing people actually forget is that Joe had to lowblow BH so as to survive that knockdown, else he'd have been koed in round 1 or 2. Joe had to cheat to not lose.

Joe CalSlappy was elite.

Very skilled fighter who unfortunately hard brittle hands. Had a great career despite that. Would have been nice if he had fought Froch.

This song will always make my hairs stand on end. Seeing Joe walking to the ring to this before totally dismantling another American hypejob in Jeff Lacy. One of the most brutally one-sided boxing masterclasses I have ever seen. Dang...

My favourite fighter of all-time. Humble, came from nothing, shunned the fame, one of the most naturally-gifted boxers I've ever seen.

Heart, chin, stamina, speed, good boxing skills HOF for me.

Overrated fighter, though he lost to Hopkins and ultimately he remained in his comfort zone for too long before fighting the big names. Jones was well passed his best when he fought him. He was effective at what he did tbf, fairly fast hands and great work-rate, but I was never a fan... The hopkins fight was pretty close, people forget that and that Hopkins had a knockdown and 10-8 round. I would have to score it round by round, but I thought calzaghe won based on activity, hopkins just wasnt active enough but he did land the cleaner, more powerful shots. Calzaghe just outworked and outslapped a 43 year old. Less impressive when you remember Jermaine Taylor outworked a 3 years younger Hopkins.

garbage and he has no heart. You should read his direct quotes on him ducking prime roy jones, he openly admitted it. He also openly admitted he knew Jones was completely shot when he fought him. Then on top of all that hes a big coke head.

I used to get frustrated that he wasn't interested in fighting abroad. Apparently he had a fear of lying, not a lack of interest.
