Yarde has not even proved himself at domestic level, ducking frank buglioni and Hosea Burton.
Best win is faded euro level guys like Sjekloca who was 40 years old.
His last win was 38 year old Travis Reeves, ranked 66 on boxrec
Travis Reeves > Sergey Kovalev :lol1:
Any others?
off the top off my head a green Joseph Parker had not fought a top 50 heavyweight in the world before he was thrown in with Carlos Takam a top 15/20 HW.
He had just fought Jason Bergman (top 100+ HW) > Carlos Takam (top 15/20 HW)
If you actually follow Hameds career. He had several wins over world champions already before facing Barrera.
Not wins against elite fighter, world champ yes elite? Not really.
AJ fighting Klitschko in just 19 fights tops for me. Yarde is unproven but will be way to athletic against a guy seemingly who doesn't react well to body shots and that's Yardes best punches.
Yeah, going life and death against a 41 year old man and needing a Typical UK standing stoppage against someone who had only one fight in the last two years and lost 11 rounds of that fight...huge huge step up. What an accomplishment!
Even though he has done so little he is the WBO number 1 contender. It shows how fuced up the WBO ranking can be. Guys like Andrade and Saunders become their champions by beating some guy you never heard of. Kovalev will probably slaughter him.
Its well known Fisheyes has the WBO in his back pocket. the fact Yarde is even challenging for a world title now despite beating no one is ridiculous.

Yarde Vs Kovalev is the biggest in recent Memory.
Yarde hasnt done anything to gradually increase the Level of Opposition, so that he can slowly adapt to more difficult boxing styles, longer rounds and he also didnt even face anyone who can even remotely be considered a Puncher.
Ive read that he also only had 12 Amateur fights? So the variety of styles that he has faced amounts to Basic european style with no Special effects.
Never fought against someone who could make him fight at an uncomfortable pace.
Never fought against someone who is technically superior or has a significant Speed Advantage.
And also didnt even face someone whose offense could make it dangerous for him.
I would be really suprised if he is able to win against Kovalev, in Russia for crying out loud. lol. His only fight overseas was against a bum in the US.

Floyd stopped Hernandez in 18 fights and less than 2 years. WBC.
That was incredibly impressive.

RE. Parker v Takam. Unlike Yarde, Parker has an extensive amateur career, and unlike Kovalev, Takam cannot be considered elite. Also, at that point Parker had sparred with many of the top guys, such as Joshua and Klitschko. And Parker had home-town advantage. So, Parker's jump up in class looks a calculated risk. Indeed, I believe Parker was the favourite with the bookmakers going into the fight. In comparison, Yarde is facing a much tougher task.
I don't understand the level of confidence that Tunde and Yarde have got going on
Traditionally, when a boxer is being brought along, every fight presents a new challenge, and there is a cautious hopefulness that they will prove themselves worthy of stepping up in class the next time around. I don't see that with Yarde's development. Instead, what I see a continuously mediocre level of competition, followed by a huge step up in class with this Kovalev fight. It's like a Hail Mary style of management that I've not really seen before
Wellborn had already fought alot of decent guys already... im not sure the jump from Matt Macklin, a fringe world level guy to Hurd is that big tbf...
there is another Russian making a big jump up in competition on the Kovalev/Yarde undercard:
Aleksei Papin (best win Sillah, who was a career LHW) is fighting top 10/15 CW Junior Makabu :boxing:
wasnt quite the same Macklin that lost to ggg tho,he was on the slide.
could backfire big time on the Russian. makabu is dangerous
