Whyte didnt like the deal, turned down the fight. Haymon/PBC negotiated the $9mil, venue of your choice rematch deal. Matchroom are just following the contract. Why isnt Ruiz blaming his advisors for the **** deal, and presumably having no faith in him actually winning. If the deal was that bad, should have turned it down and let some other guy have $15mil
He should get blamed for the rematch clause.
The last heavyweight that made less money in a contractually mandated rematch for the heavyweight championship was Riddick Bowe. He made $8 mil in 1993.
Hasim Rahman made more than Ruiz will make and that fight happened in 2001!
- -Blame Haymon soft silly lads for ever getting into a mans sport.
IE: You!
True! Seems like Andy signed a bad deal after pulling the upset...however who's to say Andy wasn't advised that it was a bad deal and said "I Don't Care Make The Fight I Need The Money" :dunno:
Fighters always have the finally say! ALWAYS! That being said, he made great money and he pulled off the historic upset. So yeah you can argue "Haymon Got Him A Bad Deal" however had it not been for Haymon helping him get out of his Top Rank Deal, he would be on the Top Rank Shelf with absolutely no money to fight Arum and probably looking for a regular job :dunno:
Gift and a Curse I guess you can call it :dunno: I would much rather have the $5-7 Million or whatever it was for the first fight and stuck in a bad rematch clause for another $9 Million (which is probably being renegotiated right now for more) rather than being in the position he was in before...just saying!
As bad as Haymon is to fans, you have to give it to him in that he looks out for his clients. If I were Ruiz, I'd be all for bleeding the giant AJ money train for as much as he can before it gets into a messy legal battle that would result in lowered income and removal of belts.
If the contract is problematic, then the person signing it is the person to blame
If he didn’t sign it, then the problem would have been Hearn’s.
I would assume he was ‘advised’ to sign this deal
C'mon man, who didn't see this coming? I knew he'd try to get the fight as favorable for his fighter as he could. Why not? And if it doesnt work, it was worth the try.
