A statement from Eddie Hearn has just been released regarding the Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz rematch. Andy Ruiz won the belts in a one-sided beat-down at Madison Square Garden.
The statement recently uploaded to Eddie's website www.earnwithhearn.com reads as follows:
I'm sorry to announce that the first choice location of Saudi Arabia for the rematch has been cancelled, due to Andy Ruiz refusal to honour his initial contract agreement. Whilst this is frustrating for everyone involved, we have to move on to Plan B.
To stop this from becoming a long legal battle, we have decided to accept that Andy, the man with 5 belts (WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO, SNICKERS) is obviously the A-side, and that we have to go where he wants us.
Ultimately, the only way for Anthony to redeem himself, is to beat the man who beat him. We have to look at Lennox Lewis, that's what he did. It will be for all the belts, in Mexico. Further details to be announced shortly.
Anthony Joshua will rule the division again. #stayhumble
What's interesting about SA as a choice for the venue is the fact that there haves been little push back against it in the states, considering the murder of the Washington Post journalist.
The reason? Casuals don't give a sh/t about this fight. Few even know who Andy Ruiz is.
That's the state of boxing in the USA.
