"“No disrespect to anybody, no disrespect to Adam because he’s a great fighter but… personally, man if I lose, there’s no more reason for me to be in the sport of boxing,” Arreola (38-5-1, 33KOs) admitted during a recent media conference call to discuss Saturday’s Fox-TV headliner. “I’m in boxing to be a champion.”"
38 year old clinically OBESE "athlete" Arreola promised us he would retire if he lost. Now that he has lost is he actually going to retire?
Going to ignore the pathetic OPs trashing of Arreola, a top heavyweight who was highly ranked for the better part of a decade, and answer the question.
Yes, he’s done. It’s not that Chris is ‘too good’ to fight and lose to Kownacki, it’s the process: to get this fight, he had to do two smaller fights... two training camps, to bouts taking heavyweight punches to get here. And now, if he wants to come back, he’s got to rehab his broken hand, make sure it’s good, probably fight another bull**** fight or two for little money and then fight some undefeated monster on the come up as the B side.
You can only do that so many times before you just aren’t motivated to do it again, and Chris has done it plenty.
So I think he’s done as far as moving forward in his career. If he gets a call in six months and is offered solid money to be a late replacement for Joseph Parker or Hughie Fury or something, I’m sure he takes it in a heartbeat, but aside from that I think this is the last we’ve seen of Chris.
Hardly. Theyre both fat slobs and theyre the pro athlete's not me.
And they both had the stamina to throw punches at a record pace from start to finish, so i don’t see your point.
Charles Barkley is one of the greatest NBA players of all time but he didn’t have a body-beautiful physique. Plenty of similar examples in other sports.
Seriously doubt if you’ve reached anywhere near the level of accomplishment these two have in your own profession. If you have a job.
You hear a lot of " If I lose i'm done" talk. If it was an early blow out then yes he would be well served by packing it in. After this effort why not as Wilder called him, be a "gatekeeper" for the division. If he stays with Goosen and trains heard I would love to see "the nightmare" against one of the up and comers. Joyce, Yoka, Dubois, maybe even Ajagba. There is always the health risks but he looked pretty tough and awfully competitve last night. Look at how Negron looked. He got destroyed by a 43rd ranked cruiserweight. There aren't many durable trial horses in the division anymore. I wouldn't hang around too long if I was Arreola but he looks like he has a few more rounds in him.
I think he will, and he would be right in doing so. He's a 38-year old shopworn heavyweight who has found his level (secondary), and a family man. If he's financially secure, the correct choice is stopping right here.
He did better than you would
Thank you.
That man is 38 & isn't chiseled but he's got heart & balls.
Fights his guts & for 10 years at that!!
Appreciate a warrior like that man who gives 110% every time

I hope not. He can still go, and is still entertaining. No shame in losing to a top 10 HW. A lot of older guys just start to become cannon fodder for top prospects (Dimitrenko, Mansour, Sam Peter now apparently) But Arreola ain't there. He can still go.
EDIT - Holy ****, Siarhei Liakhovich is still fighting?
