Canelo was a kid at a fresh 23 years old, and he weighed 152lbs, a brutal catcweight that will ALWAYS come with the fight...It's historical baggage you can't erase.
No one likes catchweights. Not when Pac was doing it, not when May did it to Canelo, not ever. It's trash and we all know it.
Floyd beating Canelo is like...
...Like saying you're rich, but you won the lotto.
or you have a new lamborghini, but your dad bought it for you.
or you lost 200lbs...but you did it through surgery.
Or you won miss America...but had a lot of plastic surgery to do it.
or you're Hector Camacho and you just beat Sugar Ray Leonard...but Sugar Ray was old and washed up.
or you beat Canelo, but he was green and it was at a catchweight.
Ya feel me? This is why it will always come with an asterisk.
A quote below from Canelo:
"I wouldn't do that. But when the (fight) negotiations started, they wanted me to go to 147. I said that's physically impossible. I couldn't do it. Then they inched up to 150. I said I can't do it, that's impossible. Those days are over. I can't make that weight anymore, I've grown.
"Then they went up to 151. And then finally, so we could make the fight, I said, 'If anything, I'll give up two pounds. I'll go up to 152. I agreed to that. Then they tried to force me to be quiet and not to mention anything that they came up with the weight of 152. And that's why ... I haven't said anything until now."
Yes
and
Yes to both.
I hated the fact Canelo was lured into the fight at a catchweight.
I hated that Cotto was lured into a catchweight against Pac.
If you haven't noticed, I don't like catchweights. Period.
They take away from the fight, and only lend themselves to tarnish the win, which gets discredited in the end anyway.
Fight the actual weights. Same day weigh in is as far as I'll go.
there are only two things worse than catchweights...
1) fggt casual-fans who insist that the 152 catchweight completely tarnished Mayweather's win over Canelo..... while steadfastly insisting that 145 made to difference to Cotto
2) fggt casual-fans who cry blue murder over catchweights... despite happily accepting Golovkin's 164 demand on Ward
catchweights are either, accepted... or they are not accepted, PERIOD
based on what I said above, it looks like everything you said is correct..... catchweights should probably be completely abolished, now that the 9 inter-divisions exist
one other grey area.....
what about when a fighter insists that he is willing and able to drop weight successfully (like Dawson with Ward, and Golovkin with Canelo).....?
is that really a catchweight?
so, Dawson said that he can make 168 no problem..... so if Ward had fought him at 169, rather than 168, he would have been doing him a favor..... just like when Golovkin said that he can make 154 no problem, and Canelo demanded 155.....
when those guys insist that they can make weight, and their opponents says "ok then"..... why is it acceptable for fans to suddenly cry catchweight?
also, Steve Rolls had been fighting at 168..... the 164 catchweight clearly benefited Golovkin, NOT Rolls..... that catchweight was COMPLETELY unnecessary, because Rolls is levels below Golovkin..... so, how can Golovkin fanboys insist that Golovkin was doing Rolls a "favor" in that fight?
I agree with your sentiment, totally..... but not with how things will obviously eventuate..... with the fanboys completely failing to keep it real across the board
You seem to discredit Mayweather for beating Canelo at a catchweight.
Would you discredit Pacquiao for fighting Cotto at a catchweight?
Yes

Yes to both.

You really think an extra couple pounds would have changed anything?
Floyd took him to school. Plain and simple. Canelo very nearly got shut out in that fight.
Just let it go. It doesn't take away from anything Canelo accomplished before or after that.
Have you actually ever fought (boxing or MMA) even at a smoker? Weight drain issues are a real thing.
You sound like a casual fan but has never ACTUALLY done any training or participated in any fighting because of the amateurish question you posed.
You seem to discredit Mayweather for beating Canelo at a catchweight.
Would you discredit Pacquiao for fighting Cotto at a catchweight? Not once have I seen someone complain about Pacquiao fighting Cotto at a catchweight but when its Mayweather there are excuses...
Everyone seems to be happy with Pacquiao's win against Cotto at a catchweight, somewhat its Mayweather you have an excuse.
Floyd fans are more irritating they go on too much about how good the nel o win was because floyds resume hasn't much strength in depth to it. Pac fans don't mention how great the cott o win was nearly as much, as Pac fans have a bigger library of better wins to gloat about. Plus Floyd fans rely too much in that nelo win saying it's better than anything Pac s did? Floyd fans are ruining Floyd credibikity
Plus Pac has more than made up for that cw win by continuing to achieve at WW that you could assume Pac would have beat any version of cotto and Pac have made up for the cw against cott o giving you countless more wins after. after
Floyd was not going to fight much longer so why not fight at full weight and not diminish your legacy fight? Floyd wants no hardship, he was going to retire soon after. So why not fight at 154, after all your not going to fight prime nel o and become oldest ever 154 champ of all time like pa c was at WW. Took money and run Floyd did didn't do much after so nobody is going to assume Floyd could beat a ungreen nel o in prime. Floyd gets credit for the version he beat nothing more, nothing less.
Floyd s too cautious to be considered on Pac s level
Dude 160lbs is light for him. That was really abnormal for him. He rehydrates to the 170's.
Those last few lbs on the catchweight are torture for boxers. So when they're instituted the boxer isnt coming into the fight at his 100%.
Imagine GGG fighting at 153lbs? How ridiculous would that be? Or Spence at 141lbs? Lol
Catchweights are a huge deal around here. Maybe 10% of boxing fans are ok with them. Most think catchweight fights are garbage.

Making weight is tough especially for boxers having to come down. A fight is a fight, wither catch weight or not, it's an excuse.
Canelo may have been drained and dehydrated on weigh in because he needed to be to make weight but he rehydrated himself the next day going up 160lbs + on fight night.
Stop using catchweight as an excuse, Canelo got schooled because he was green at the time and wasn't ready for Mayweather.
It was a good fight between the two but Canelo was trying to box against the best boxer of his era. You can't box with Mayweather at his own game, you have to be rough and dirty like Maidana did on his first fight.
Floyd beat a nel o who was nowhere as good as he is now that's why nel o is/was considered green. Floyd knew he'd be criticised for cw so no point crying now about it. Plus Floyd has did very little at 154 to accept Floyd as having being a proper champ at that weight so at least beat the champ at his full weight.
Pac can be forgiven for his cw with cott o as wasnst using it to preserve unbeaten record like floyd.
Cotto certainly weren't green. But Pac has cemented his greatness as a ww in doing something never did so at least Pac is accepting there was no need for cw, and tried make amends for it,he'd likely have beat cott o anyway..Pac continued to fight and made up for it.Floyd took money and ran and got out of boxing before he got found out.
Floyd fans keep boasting about unbeaten record and then being cautious fighting nel o with cw? Floyd will get little credit for his nel o win when perspective and context is used without the rose tinted specs Floyd fans use
I would look like ive got skills skills skills against Uysk if I fought him at 141lb catchweight Lol
Bring on Tyson Fury....i knock his ass out at 158lb catchweight.
I despise catchweights, but Floyd totally dominated that fight, all with skills, skills, skills. It'a a great win. Over a guy who was NOT green in the least, who'd already had a lot of big fights.
Floyd "put on a clinic", as the saying goes.
Why do you despise catchweights?
Bruh, why does it matter if Canelo was drained to 152 lbs on weigh in when on fight night he came in at 160 lbs + ...
Dude 160lbs is light for him. That was really abnormal for him. He rehydrates to the 170's.

That’s because you can’t read.
You believe what you believe...I’ll believe what I believe, it makes no difference. Floyd still chose to fight the guy at a cw...after all, he’s the “A side doe”. Like I said before, the cw doesn’t even bother me, it’s the guys who act like it’s basically the same as fighting at the full limit. If it made no difference, it wouldn’t have been necessary to make the fight.
The best way to beat a fighter who is or may be a future threat is too wait and fight them until they are too old or to fight them when they are too young. Mayweather fought Alvarez when he was still a young pup. He is much better fighter now and has been in his prime for the past few years.
Nothing you posted shows he “requested” the cw as you say lol. Floyd wanted the cw...canelo agreed to it. It says right in what you posted that the cw “had to be done to get the deal made”. Requested it doe...
That’s because you can’t read.
good point
the weight made no difference whatsoever in that fight
Canelo weighed 1.5 lbs less than he did for Trout, 1 fight earlier
if Mayweather wants the fight to be a boxing match, it will be a boxing match..... Canelo got schooled
That one upsets me the most. They say floyd ducked Thurman and fought berto instead.. Thurman had 25 fights in 2015 yet they wouldn't consider him green?
He used tainted beef as an excuse to cheat of course he’s a liar lmao. We’re talking about a guy (Canelo) who owns the record for the most catchweights of course he requested it lol
It’s easy smacking you around

The worst part of the fight is that they are both champion at that weight and they do a CW fight. :lol1: this could be the worst cw weight fight in the boxing history. :lol1:
