Hearns and Wilder are pretty similarly built, tall guys for their weight class who carry most of their weight in their upper body which allows them to fight lighter than expected.
Tommy was 6'1" and fought the best at 147 lbs. Wilder without specific plans to bulk up naturally slips to under 210 lbs like he did the time he fought Fury.
If Wilder fought and beat the best at cruiserweight or maybe even LHW would he have had had more respect than beating most of the cans he has at HW?
No because they'd say he's an over-sized freakish cruiserweight who's beating up smaller men. Wilder should be given a lot of credit for fighting BIGGER guys at heavyweight who outweigh him by 30 lbs. or even 50 lbs. Hell, if he fought Big Baby Miller that's like an 80 lbs. weight advantage for Big Baby??
Wilder is seen as a villain or a thug, so he's always in a no-win situation. Everyone wants him to lose, but he keeps winning...
When he becomes undisputed, he's just a bum who ducked the Klitschkos. :lol1:
He could very easily give up 3 figures against Miller.

I see where you are coming from but I don't believe Hearns had that type of criticism it was more awe that someone that tall could keep up with the smaller guys.
You have a good point that Wilder is almost always the smaller guy because he's not built like a HW, so I don't think people would have held him fighting below HW against him.

Would Wilder have had more respect if he had a Tommy Hearns like career at CW? | BoxingScene Community
