Did him going 12 with Eleider Alvarez showed you he can still fight at elite level?
Seeing guys like Yarde and a middleweight calling out the Krusher and him not wanting anything to do with the other LHW champions makes me wonder if he is just cashing out
He was very cautious in his last fight I think his punch resistance is gone
That video isn’t available in the UK but I rewatched the rematch recently anyway.
I think it’s more stamina than punch resistance, in round 6 he ate a clean right hand from Alvarez and took it well, he definitely fades after 6 though and that’s when he looks vulnerable. I think the cautiousness came more from what Alvarez did to him in the first fight. Kovalev’s aura of invincibility has been taken away you can see he no longer has that confidence he had when he was dominating Cleverly, B-Hop, Pascal etc.
He’s declining but is still a very technically skilled fighter and everyone knows the power is the last thing to go. He remains a tough fight for anyone at 175.

Right. Fighters can be in wars coming up and make little. They can even be avoided in their prime. Being on the decline can often earn them their most lucrative fights against one of the few superstars. Being good and foreign doesn’t help u get fights against the cash cows. Lose a few times, make a comeback and you just might make more as a “name” opponent to a Star.
Pretty Much nailed it
That’s how the sport been operating for decades .
If a fighter is Top Shelf And isn’t backed by a Powerbroker in the Sport. He’ll almost certainly get avoided by All the fighters of his actual era that have clout and backed by the Powerbrokers in and around his weight class. They’ll just wait him out. That fighter will almost certainly spend his prime never fighting many if any at all the other elites of his era. Being able to showi his true Greatness , he’s too dangerous and almost guaranteed doesn’t have the clout in the sport to be a attraction .
But once he’s in the Championship Rounds with the real Undefeated Champ of the sport Father Time. That fighter will start getting all the calls to fight the current eras stars , They get to make their name bolster their Resume with the illusion that it was bigger W then it actually is when they take his scalp
Boxing is so f.ucked. A business based on popularity contests and who you’re associated with that masquerades as a Sport, Those 2 factors almost always determines a fighters Career Ceiling.Takent or Skill is just a small part of the equation
Far from Shot
He just got his strap back but
Like it’s been mentioned he’s 3-3 in his last 6 / Been Tapped Out & Knocked Out in those Ls
He’s 35 + , A Age where he’s on the slide only a handful of boxers in the history of the sport can compete at the highest level.
The Days of the Krusher are long gone and time isn’t on his side
But hey if the fight gets made with a Canelo this is his Career MO / His team has no problem putting him with the Elite Names ( Future HOFers ) of the Sport / But they are always over 35 on The Down slide and their Value is mostly in their Name not necessarily where Their Position is at in the sport at the time

past his best but still got skills. like a few have already pointed out the fear factor has gone now and opponents being intimidated was a big factor in his fights. he terrified the division when he came to the UK and did a demolition job on cleverly, never been the same since ward tho
Truth. Kovalev's greatest assets were his confidence and the fact that people feared him. Losing to a guy who wouldn't back down and was never scared really fuked with him. He is still good, but you'll see he's not walking guys down with the jab and unloading. He's much more methodical and cautious now.
(Married)married
There were some great Japanese fighters..in te 50’s and 60’s... beasts..... one they got domesticated (married had kids]they lost that swag step...they get methodical and fight in a more defensively predictive manner..
Having nothing to lose, vs having sumthing to lose... different ball game.... in my opinion.. shalom brother..
