Just watched the fight from last night.
Don't get me wrong, there are things to like about Andrade. He has ridiculous reach and is very unorthodox, has decent speed. But I felt like he is stuck between styles. Some points he's got a really high peek-a-boo style guard, but then drops his hands and really wings his punches, a bit like Deontay Wilder. The movement from guard to offense is telegraphed and easy for his opponent to anticipate. He should stop doing this entirely. Could end up getting himself brutally KOed doing that.
Then further into the fight he lowered his guard and was moving more, but kept holding his feet and smothering his own work when he would let his hands go. Like his arms are just too long to fight short. And the left hand last night was horrible. Absolutely horrible. Big, wide, looping slow punch telegraphed every damn time. Someone like Billy Joe Saunders could landed a 10-punch combo in the time it takes that left hand to travel. Seems like he doesn't have much power either.
Was this the guy who was talking about sparring after smoking weed? Like weed helps him train better? Who is his trainer? He needs a much higher workrate and should work on his angles and movement. Those things should be the bread and butter of his fighting style. Wouldn't hurt to work on throwing a shorter, straight left hand either.
I saw an incomplete fighter last night. And it's crazy people are talking about him challenging the likes of Saul Alvarez. That would be a total mismatch at this point. He would probably struggle terribly against someone who could apply effective pressure for 12 rounds, get close and make him work every single round. And there are many fighters like that who aren't even top 5-10 in the World.
I thought he really could have done some damage, like he intended to, if he just mixed up his left hand. The hooks were good early, but obviously quickly became predictable, why not throw more straights? Andrade is not a very intelligent fighter.
He isnt very bright. You listen to him talk, you will see shades of Chad Dawson and Victor Ortiz.
I was not impressed by Andrade's performance but he did what he was supposed to do by winning every round. He beat the guy better than Jacobs did. Then he called out Canelo loud and clear for the 100th time. Canelo made a big deal of GGG having to beat Andrade before he would fight GGG but GGG did not fight him. So is Canelo going to answer Andrade's challenge and fight him like he told GGG to do? Canelo said he was on a mission to be the undisputed middleweight champion. Was that just a lie and an excuse not to fight GGG? Canelo is just one fight away from being the undisputed middleweight champion and that fight is with Andrade. Will he fight Andrade for that missing WBO middleweight belt or is Canelo just a BS talker? He should practice what he preached to GGG. Clean out his own weight class first before going to 168 or 175 complete with catchweights and morning weigh ins. If Canelo no longer wishes to fight at 160 he should make that clear and vacate 160.
andrade fought once in 2014, once in 2015, once in 2016, once in 2018. you get the idea.
he is a fighter without an identity in a lot of ways. no real style to speak of, no signature wins or moments, no fans, no consistent presence in the media. he's just sort of lost.
i expect in time that he will get a few fights for big money. canelo, golovkin, you only need to fight these guys once or twice to be entirely set for the rest of your life. the rest of your career is just icing on the cake. you retire a wealthy guy as long as you're not a spendthrift. that's what they're here to do.
The way he won every round last night would never work against Canelo or GGG. They would easily see and slip his long swings, get in close and chop him up in my opinion. He has no power to hurt these two iron jawed boxers but they can and will hurt him. He is right handed and his left is not very good. They would attack him on his left side. He earned a fight with Canelo and GGG but he will lose to both of them in my opinion. He is a level below them and on the same level as Jermall except he can punch as hard or fast as Jermall.
I’ve yet to be impressed by Andrade.
Not to say he isn’t good, he obviously is but there just seems something missing. I’ve never watched him fight and thought it was a great performance and made me think he can compete with anybody.
People can say he’s naturally gifted, but that doesn’t mean a lot. A lot of naturally gifted guys did even less than him. I just think he’s a solid contender with some skills, good enough to pick up a world title here and there depending on the opposition.
Haven't been watching Andrade's fights in a long while since the Willie Nelson fight. He looked good in that fight, except that his style of bending so low was almost like cheating to me. It made the opponent avoid punching him on the back of his head. It also made it easy for him to clinch at will when the going gets tough. Smaller guys like Culcay did better because such style worked against him (Andrade).
I don't know, but this guy and his awkward style is boring to watch. I'll avoid him at all cost if I were in his division. On second thought, GGG and Canelo might do well because they are smaller, and Andrade is not even using his height.

The way he shaped in the last three rounds was truly awful, shambling around with his head down in an awkward, bent kneed crouch, winging in huge hay maker lefts that missed by a mile.
But that was him showboating because he knew he had the fight won and Sulecki was no longer a threat. Before that, when he was concentrating and respecting his opponent, he still looked awkward, but very mobile, illusive and difficult to catch, with a fast, long southpaw jab.
Boxing like that, I think he would give both Canelo and GGG all kinds of problems. Canelo has never been good at cutting the ring on an illusive, mobile opponent, and GGG's feet seem a lot slower now than they used to be.
