Starting to hear rumours this is a genuine possibility for September. Even at 36 I think Kovalev might be too big, surely he’ll be able to cause Canelo a lot of problems at long range if he boxes the way he did in the Alvarez rematch. I think this is likely posturing by Team Canelo and they’ll likely negotiate the trilogy fight with GGG. But Canelo-Kovalev would be really interesting stylistically IMO.
These kinds of antics annoy me. Charlo and Andrade are all available for you to go face yet you want to go for Callum Smith or Sergey? It's just insane to even think that kind of a fight even makes sense. Sergey is older and he is obviously going for that fight because he can get a name on his profile that has been dented multiple times before. It's just obvious shady practices by Oscar and the crew
I agree Canelo needs to take on the bes in his division.
A lot of uneducated fools say money is the root of all evil..
Wrong... it’s the love of money, the love of money is the root of all evil..
Good to see you posting my friend... shalom

Respect. Homie....i think kov is too big for the carrot top man from Guadalajara, Jalisco.. Mexico...
I think Mungaia would take that Eastern Europe man to hell..

I wonder if these talks were the reason for the hold up with Yarde?
I am straight up excited by Kovalev vs Canelo. Would be an insanely good fight... but wouldn't there be network issues? Kovalev is on ESPN for a few fights?
Bivol vs Canelo at 168? WOULD BE AN EPIC fight and right now would be a 50/50 fight.
Canelo vs Kovalev at 175? Would be a great KO for Kovalev...
That said, Kovalev is too tidy, and Canelo can find angles around that. If he manages to consistently slip that long jab then he can easily break down the body. I know that sounds insane right now but Canelo is riding so high right now and Kovalev’s aura has gone.
Not remotely interested in any catch weight or rehydration clauses. You either fight the man legit or you don’t. No need to use your leverage to get fighters to do silly things that would handicap them big time
Kovalev looked better in his last fight, but I can't completely ignore the fact that Alvarez fought one of the dumbest fights I've ever seen from a fighter in a rematch that he won. He literally said that his plan was to just look for a big punch - he neglected everything that he had success with in the first fight and just stood there thinking he was going to land a haymaker at some point...so of course Kovalev looked better.
Once Alvarez kinda woke up and started to throw some body punches in the mid 7-10 rounds I thought he started to slow up the "improved" Kovalev a bit, it was just waayy too late and there was never enough invested. So, I still see Sergei a little vulnerable to a body puncher like Canelo, but will the smaller guy be able to get on a Sergei who does have some speed/snap back in his punches; back to having a long jab, and quick short power shots. Hoping there wouldn't be too much of the Canelo smoke and mirrors with weights and rehydration, it's still something I'd want to see
Good fight I suppose but Canelo is picking the most vulnerable and old champ to pick up another belt in another division. He certainly wouldn’t step up and fight guys like Bivol. No doubt he will find a way to badly drain Kovalev too.
With all that said, it’s still a decent fight
I think Kovalev has seen better days and if it’s a catchweight fight, I think he’s completely screwed. I remember his team saying catchweight was impossible for him back when he fought Ward the first time. So if he’s weight drained, he’s toast IMO.
But if it’s at 175, I think people might assume that Kovalev is more shot than he is. I don’t think he’s the same but his demise is a little overhyped IMO. So I see it as a competitive and fun fight if it happens.
Yeah Kov has been tight at 175 lbs for years. A catchweight would badly affect his chances.
What happens is Meatnello tries everything possible to cheat. Catch weights, peds, rehydration clauses, judges, etc. but that's a fight he can't win. He will be on his back if he tries Kovalev unless he roids to the gills again.
