Boxing defensive maneuvers work fine in that sport, as Lobov could barely land anything on Malignaggi.
But offensively you can't just tee off on guys and reel off multi-punch combinations to the head. There is a real danger of hurting your hands like Paulie did yesterday.
I think precision is much more important and you have to be very careful about where you place your shots. It's also probably a good idea to concentrate heavily on the body too.
I think the "gypsy slick" style that guys like Tyson Fury and Billy Joe Saunders employ to great effect in pro boxing probably derives from bare knuckle boxing. I don't know if those two specifically had any bare knuckle fights but their training and stylistic principals would've likely been influenced by it anyway. The sport has a long unbroken tradition in that community, not like the American scene which looks like it's going to have to basically re-evolve from scratch
Anyone interested in gypsy bare knuckle fighting should watch this doc, tis a classic.
Precision is just as important in boxing. A primed, young boxer with top pedigree would make a mockery of most in bare knuckle fighting.
Young, prime Mike Tyson broke his hand when he hit Mitch Green in a street fight.
It's a different game when you don't have wraps, tape, and gloves.

Street fighting in general is not PPV worthy, but they're marketing what the fans keep saying they want - blood, knockouts, cuts, relaxed rules, punishing overly defensive fighters, etc. People keep saying "pillow gloves" - so they got rid of the gloves entirely.
They give people exactly what they want but then don't want to pay for it.
Same damn thing happened with BKB (Big Knockouts Boxing). People said they wanted to see more knockouts, they gave people more knockouts, yet it still failed because nobody wanted to pay for it.
People don't want what they say they want. That's why it bothers me when certain people especially on NSB keep complaining about it. If boxing is that bad, PAY FOR THE ALTERNATIVE that gives you exactly what you want.
People generally only pay for big names even in regular boxing. GGG had to knock a lot of people out before people wanted to see him do it on PPV. Sport has a lot to do with personalities too, it's individuals that really build a following through promotion but it takes time.
Given time though, I can see BKFC doing well with boxing fans especially if they can get some KO artists over from boxing. and some MMA
Concrete has very weak tensile strength. Its why rebar is used in construction. 10 year olds can break unenforced concrete.
It is also why karate phags put the unenforced concrete up on blocks with the center unsupported, this allows tensile stresses when struck. This is why karate phags dont strike concrete cylinders which would only be compression stresses, because they cant generate 5000psi to crush it.
If a 10 year old can do it, its not a feat of strength.
How about this, tough guy. Take a4" block, and knock the webbing out with a brick hammer, making two slabs. Set them up on blocks om top of one another, try to punch through them, and let me know how it works out for you.
Pics of your broken hand would be awesome... :lol1:
wtf is that? :lol1:
That's Bass Rutten throwing those vicious "palm strikes" this guy was talking here:
I think you know nothing of Palm strikes find a tree and smack it hard nothing happens to your hand gets some boards strike it and watch them break. Now watch Bas Ruten do palm strike on UFC guys before they used gloves
:haha::haha:

Lobov is an entertaining guy, so I was watching some interviews of him a couple days ago. I thought he made some really good points about why he was going to win, and after that I basically moved it to 60-40 Paulie. I didn't watch the whole fight yet but:
1) Lobov had a full fight in that discipline, Paulie did not
2) Lobov talked about the pain he felt, particularly in his hands, in that first fight, and how he just had to suck it up and keep fighting
3) Paulie was never a big puncher, and always seemed to have fragile hands
4) Lobov is an active fighter, and Paulie is inactive, not in great shape
5) Lobov is young/in his prime...Paulie is old, past his prime
When you put all that together, it is not a huge surprise that Paulie got outworked and even outsmarted here. He came in a little arrogant and didn't realize the nuances between BKFC and boxing.
As others have pointed out, Paulie is never the boxer you would pick to go bare knuckle if you were choosing boxers to win.
Because of the very real issue of not knowing how your hands would react in a BKFC fight, it's hard to really predict how any boxer would do in BKFC. 'Our' big punchers could break their hand(s) early and would basically be a sitting duck the rest of the fight.
I think in BKFC, experience, even just one fight, is worth its weight in gold. It's just a whole new ballgame in a lot of ways and if a boxer fails to recognize that, odds are they will end up like Paulie...who may have lost, may not...but he certainly was the loser in terms of expectations.
Bareknuckle boxing is not for everybody period.
The very important attribute to be able to compete in that world is genetics. One's bone structure/density.
You're knuckles are not meant to collide with another mans skull. You're knuckles will lose 100% of the time. Guys with bigger hands and stronger bones can tolerate it more but not everyone is the same
Didn't watch the fight or have any interest in it. That being said, Paulie was finished as a boxer 5-6 years ago, and of all the boxers in the history of boxing, he is about the last guy I would expect to excel in bare knuckle. He was a very good, fringe world level boxer in his prime, due to his movement, good ring IQ and speed, but let's be honest, the dude couldn't bust a grape. His punch resistance also declined massively in later years. Hardly a surprise he lost. Also, to those saying fists aren't effective in a street fight. If Wilder hit someone flush once without gloves on and they hit the floor, they'd be dead at the scene. In a street fight, any average guy would lose to someone who had skills in any style of fighting, cheating aside (weapons, beer bottles, friends jumping in, etc)

Hard punchers might be even more at risk of breaking their hand.
Look what happened to Mike Tyson when he hit Mitch Green bareknuckle in their street fight.
They should fight more like Spence & at least condition their hands like u + the other poster said. Aim to punch the ears and behind them too. Break their noses.
I mean sure you can slap but the muay thai guy will be clinching you and hiting you with fuking elbows in there. Elbows > Slaps
You can use palm strikes in bare knuckle. I've seen some fighters do it when they injure their hands in previous events. But they don't get the "respect" that they would with punches and usually get timed and countered. It's not as effective as you think it is.

Respect to Paulie.
He had everything to lose*. But he gave us the fight -- Boxer vs MMA fighters (which is what we all want to see, whether you admit it or not).
Boxing is PRIZE FIGHTING, is it not? So you can't blame Paulie for making this thing happen.
He likely had a Conor McGregor Boxing match in mind in the future -- if he had slapped around Conor's training partner in BKB*
He didn't live up to expectations... you CAN criticize him for that. He definitely disappointed in terms of his performance. But RESPECT that he got in there, put his well-being on the line, and competed.
Paulie vs Conor would have made all of this worth it.
Soooo, did @FloydMayweather send @PaulMalignaggi into #McGregor's camp as a spy?(via Fight Hype) pic.twitter.com/pdA0NoPtXc— Stadium (@Stadium) August 25, 2017
P.S. You can't respect the out-of-the-ring crap though. The spitting and slapping was unbecoming.
i don't give a flying fvvck about this. never saw this as boxing vs mma showdown anyway.
so because it was competitive it means paulie lost the fight despite winning more rounds?
so basically paulie had to obliterate the russian to get the decision because he is the boxer in this match-up?
doesn't make sense to me.
Paulie had no real offense that is his problem, he didn't throw ****. If he had just kept the jab consistent it would have been a different story. Paulie's movement looked hella shot also tbh he had no business being there.
It's also not for pillow punchers like Pauline. I have no doubt Maidana would excel in this sport. Vanes should hit them up since he needs the cash.

It was a bad idea for Paulie from the start but obviously, we all know why he took the fight because he needed the money. Bareknuckle brawling is not Malignaggi's forte as he has had multiple broken hand problems for most of his career.
Then fighting with no padding or support for those brittle hands of his wasn't perhaps a very wise thing for him to do. However, he wasn't beaten up or dominated. He just didn't throw enough power punches to sway the judges that's all.
