Well at least he left in good health and good eyes...wait, both those were broken but at least he left with a win over some Aussie guy.
Thank you, Some Aussie Guy, now Kell can retire in peace (before he somehow breaks a 3rd eye in the ring...lol)
Lost all the steam he had after that Porter win. Props to him for winning the IBF title, but what a disappointing career he turned out to have
Yup. GGG fight was a desperate money grab that left permanent damages physically and mentally.
I forgot about that.
You are correct, he was the face. What a shame.
Kell brook was never the face of matchroom.
Carl Froch was and then AJ. Brook was in the top 3 for a while with Bellew.
He mismanged his career. Fought nobodies until he fought a badass 2 weight classes above him and then finally fought a badass at his own weight class. His talent and skillset was on display against Porter, GGG, and Spence.
The eye injuries from GGG and Spence were his downfall. He was close and competitive in both fights arguably winning them until the injuries took place.
This is sad. After the GGG fight it was downhill. It's unfortunate because you can't fault Brook for daring to be great. It's what real fighters do, attempt to achieve great feats. But the damage to his eyes won't make it easy.
I'm glad Brook is doing it before he permanently has serious health problems.
I'll miss him because Brook was a class act and I liked his approach to the sport. I don't think he should have ever moved up to take on GGG but I give him credit for trying to do so.
Shoulda announced it after the GGG fight. You'd think he woulda gotten paid retirement money for taking that fight & saving Eddie's ass. Nope. He had to fight on and got the other eye broke. Then continue fighting to try & get a Khan fight. Has to be one of the most mismanaged careers I've ever seen. He was right on the cusp of becoming a unified champion and could've gotten a Pacquiao fight. But instead he choose to save Eddie's ass. Smh my exact thoughts when I read the thread title.
GGG ended brook's career. that decision to take on GGG was the end of brook's career! too much heart and balls on the part of brook. he came to america and schooled porter who looked like an unstoppable monster at the time and won the title. he jumped two weight classes and fought GGG when everyone one else ducked him! then he dropped back down in weight to defend his title against the boogyman at welterweight spence and was whooping spence's ass until the damage golovkin inflicted in his previous fight caught up to him! respect to kell brook!!!! I do think he will come back one more time to fight khan in a money fight. he'll destroy silly khan and send him to dream world and then retire for real!
Get ready for Khan to come out swinging :lol1: Dude is going to talk LOADS of **** now that he feels safe and doesn't have to run from that fight any more
Eddie Hearn ruined his career. He had no business being in the ring with GGG in the first place.
When it comes to Matchmaking, Matchroom is the worst out there and I won't advise any promising boxer to sign with Matchroom.
I agree and often i don’t blame promoters, because fighters have to agree to fight.
It seemed to me Eddie wanted to have the plaudits for bringing GGG to the UK on PPV that he didn’t wanna lose that opportunity and got a welterweight to step in for Eubank. It was more about Eddie keeping the event alive rather than doing a good job for his fighter. In the build up, Eddie kept talking about how he’s proving that they can attract big names to the UK to fight.
I still think had Brook not gone up and taken that beaten, the Brook v Spence fight would’ve been a lot different.
Must be something serious if so .
A month ago there were talks of him being Crawfords next opponent .
Think he has no real interest in boxing anymore.
It’s been fairly obvious for a couple of years that he was only after the Khan fight payday. He even said himself he can’t get up for any fights other than big ones, so that to me is a man that has no desire to fight on.
Shame, his career was arguably destroyed by going up to MW then jumping back down 2 weights to fight Spence. Had he stayed at WW, he would’ve been a problem for anybody.
