I’ve been thinking along the lines of the OP since Fury’s (should’ve been) victory over Wilder in their first encounter. And now, after his crushing of Deontay in the rematch, I’m convinced that Tyson has it in him to become one of the greatest heavyweights ever. The greatest isn’t too much of a stretch, but a lot has to happen between now and then. For starters, Tyson Fury is huge. That, in and of itself, isn’t nearly enough, but there’s never been a heavyweight as big as he is that can move the way he does. Not even close. His power isn’t great, but his sheer size makes it respectable. His skills are top-notch; his speed is unparalleled for someone his size; his ring IQ is up there; his stamina is grade “A”; his chin is quite solid; and his heart is beyond reproach. Even now, one has to believe Tyson has a realistic chance to beat any boxer who ever lived. What more can you ask? Oh, yeah...Fury’s charisma and showmanship are Ali-level. And, like Ali, Fury came back from an extended hiatus to reclaim his world titles. Yes, the OP wasn’t (isn’t) off the mark...and that was before Fury-Wilder II.
