I think the obvious plan to victory is sharpening up his jab and throwing that thing 30 times a round with an occasional over hand or straight right. Mix in a couple of check left hooks but absolutely stay away from throwing the uppercut. If Ruiz gets to close tie him up Wlad style. He can easily cruise to a UD, he doesn't need to make a statement, just get his belts back and more importantly his confidence.
Yeah lets not forget Joshua dropped him first, its not like it was a thrashing from beginning to end. TBH if he didn't get into a swinging match and get clipped he could possibly dominated the entire fight from range, but who knows.
It was the punishment after the first knockdown and how he responds to that mentally that is of concern, obviously Ruiz belief will be sky high and rightly so.
I still think there was something different about Joshua even before the knockdown, I think he was feeling the pressure to make a statement with an early KO to answer Wilder, if so that was a terrible idea.
I agree, it was strange. He lacked imagination from the 1st round and kept asking corner what to do.
However, I do not see that happening in the rematch. He is still taller, more athletic, bigger puncher among the two. Should be enough to win, and any kind of win will be a priority - no pressure to look good, etc.
I see it Parker fight copy - where Andy will wait to counter all night and never get the real opportunity.
I think that Andy won that fight against Parker and landed the better shots. Parker was in a survival modelo. But I think Parker has better defense and he like to fight in a survival mode, and he has better speed, Joshua is Stronger but slow.
It would be another hard fight to both fights. Right now the score is 1-0 to Ruiz side
JAB! However, the reason why he put the jab away was because Ruiz was doing something interesting he was punching away his jab he did this a couple of times to show AJ that his jab was very slow and that he sees it coming. Not only that but Andy was also too QUICK for his Jab, he started getting inside every time he threw in and was catching AJ was some nice Combos
AJ needs a NEW TEAM and a New Trainer for his next CAMP! Strength and Conditioning, Head Trainer EVERYBODY has to go because I see Regression NOT Progression. It has been a rapid decline since the Wlad fight to be honest
No only that but he shouldn't rush it back! Shouldn't comeback until November-December. If he can get another fight without running the risk of Andy Ruiz going off to do a unification with Wilder then even better.
The man has to get RIGHT MENTALLY and he needs people around him that will get him right mentally and not just SUCK UPS and people who KISS HIS ASS and tell him what he want to hear. Sorry BRITS but he needs an American Trainer :dunno:
Exactly.
That was the truth
It depends on Andy. If Andy comes in motivated and determined again, Joshua is not winning. If Andy comes in unmotivated and already "satisfied" attitude that he already "won" by winning the first fight, then Joshua has a chance to win by circle, jab, move (control the distance), right hand-which he was so reluctant to throw last night, follow by left hook......rinse and repeat until stoppage or decision.
He thrown a little punches in this fight, he never had the confidence to thrown much punches and he was being countered with bombs .
It's hard to deal with Andy hands speed

Sounds like wishful thinking. No real vision of what he will need to do huh? Just hoping he finds a way .... LoLoL!
Maybe if it's in UK, the Ref will stop the fight after an AJ flury of punches (like many of his other fights).
LoL!
Read again. I gave my vision - see under “Parker fight”.
I have no preference in who wins. I was glad that Ruiz won, as I typically root for underdogs in fights where I don’t have clear favourite.

It's more likely that AJ wins against Ruiz in a rematch in U.K. than Ruiz winning again in a rematch. You could see that as long as Joshua manages that distance well, Ruiz is at his mercy.
The only time Ruiz gets to his groove is when AJ gets a little over excited after he hits him with a good solid punch. It appears that AJ doesn't have the sense that the other fighters have of knowing when the other fighter is truly hurt, to him, he hits you solidly he thinks you're really hurt, it's time to go for it! Other fighters really knew when to go for it, they can also sense when other fighter is faking that they are hurt or not. May be this comes with more experience.
In UK AJ doesn't have the added pressure of knocking him out, just cruise to the decision with his solid accurate jabs and hooks from a good distance. I don't see Ruiz ever winning in UK in a close decision. He really have to knock Joshua out again.
I think he wins comfortably in the rematch. It will be much less entertaining fight - very similar to Parker fight.

He needs to turn into prime Wlad or last night will be the first of many KO losses before he retires. But as simple as it seems to jab and grab, it’s really difficult.
Last night made me appreciate how Wlad after those losses to Brewster et al really learnt how to dominate shorter guys from a distance. There is real skill in that, Wlad of say... 2010 or 2011 would have never let someone like Ruiz get close and get off like that, he would have pummelled him with the jab from distance. I almost miss the big guy.
Spot on. I was thinking the only way for AJ to win that rematch would be to adopt a Wlad style. But that Style took years of perfecting and is a skill. It’s not something you’re going to pick up in the next 6 months.
Joshua is not a natural boxer. He’s a pretty athletic guy that happens to box. He’s never going to have the fluidity of someone that’s done it for years since childhood like Fury or Ruiz and people like that. You can teach guys like that little tricks and they pick it up fast because it’s in them.
Because boxing is something he picked up late, he’s not going to pick up new tricks in the next 6 months. The reality is that it’s took about 10 years just to give him this basic style he has.
After seeing Ruiz bust up the large Dimitrenko, I think AJ is just all wrong for Ruiz. Only way I see AJ winning is if he can land thunder from long range.
But I don't think he's ever done that.
Perhaps in a war AJ can catch Ruiz before he gets caught. Or if he throws good combos from long range all night and can get a decision. That's about it though.
I think Ruiz beats him in the rematch.
Styles makes fights. Look at that Dimitrenko fight again ...
Definitely the game plan is to make it a slow, boring fight and avoid engaging, but I'm not sure Joshua can keep him off. AJ has stamina issues that will come into play. I think someone that can move with good hand speed is a bad matchup for AJ. I've said I thought Usyk could beat him if he could withstand AJ power and had enough of his own to get his respect.
Ruiz is a pressure fighter and will always be a nasty match up for Joshua. Ruiz is to rugged for Joshua he's tough and fast hands. I think Ruiz has his number..
Keep range and don't sulk to playing dueling pistols on the inside (Ruiz does have significantly faster hands them him).

I agree with this approach. I would hope AJ can muster up a better tactic than grappling whenever Ruiz gets close though. Some body shots and turning Ruiz in addition to grabbing when needed would go a long way in keeping the fight entertaining and deflating Andy's endurance.
He should also be able to time Ruiz coming in and land hard shots, but if Andy can close the distance consistently without getting stopped AJs poor stamina will inevitably become a liability once again. It's the reason why I was okay with him facing Miller. Provided Miller didn't get blown away early, he had the potential to push AJ to the limit.
I think the rematch would be very interesting, I'm honestly still in slight disbelief that this upset actually happened.
So much wrong with the performance its hard to know where to start. He became a little left hook happy after his early success and his feet were a lot slower than normal which took his right hand out of range. No doubt he had no sharpness at all which can only be down to preparation. He needs to get focused back on boxing instead of being a global superstar. One thing I do know for certain after last night is that if he tastes a right hand from wilder its game over. I am not saying he couldn't get to Wilder first but that is his only chance.
