I initially felt like AJ getting dethroned (some would say "exposed" even) would be a massive hit to dazn because he's their 2nd biggest star.
But, giving it further thought, it's probably going to help it. AJ wasn't really a draw in the US yet and they don't need dazn to see him in the UK.
Seems to me this is a sacrificial win for the subscription service because it adds some excitement and credibility.
What do you think?
I hear you. I gave up on trying to talk boxing and spend most of my time here in the lounge for the last 3 months.
Though I don't actually wish any ill will toward AJ and I was calling him the best current HW up until this event, I'm over the moon that something interesting actually happened in boxing this week. I was starting to giving up.
I had no interest in the fight and thought it’d be a routine 6-7 round defence, my intentions were to watch a rerun in the morning which I did, when I saw the fight I was kind of mixed feelings like when Povetkin hurt AJ I be like I’m not even sure I want this guy to actually beat AJ ! Same with Ruiz but I suppose it potentially opens up the door for a Wilderand Ruiz fight should it be more lucrative for Andy to avoid the rematch, I suspect Hearn will pay more to keep the belts out of Al’s reach though yet it’ll be interesting to see how things unfold the next few months, a Wilder vs Ruiz fight could be an intriguing fight and Wilder with all the belts would really put him in the driving seat for negotiations vs Hearn.
I’d like to see Ruiz come in having shed even more weight and looking even better, the way he fought in the shape he looked if he could somehow dedicate himself to the sport he could be a phenomenal challenger.
Thing with Wilder is how often have we seen him outboxed, I very much doubt he’d be up on cards against Andy should he stop him all that said I see Andy stopping Wilder too, Fury I very much doubt he’d have any problems with Ruiz stylistically he’d dwarf him.
Surely boxing to his strengths AJ can beat Andy in a rematch with U.K. officiating too, maybe their was a real apprehension knowing he wouldn’t get favourable decisions repeatedly as the U.K. tends to lean its fighters.
Truth be told I considered myself a solid poster if not one of the top but their comes a point where you become a troll I couldn’t quite pinpoint where or when but that’s what NSB will do to you, you end up lowering yourself to that of the pond life that reside here. I mean serious out of all the posters I’ve read and engaged with their is about 5% worth your time the rest have more of a negative effect on you, I shouldn’t have allowed it to happen but it happened yet it took me a little time to recognise it at that moment I decided right there and then enough is enough I check in time to time read comments here and there but all in all I don’t engage, I think I may have this past week due to idiots claiming Miller was a more credible challenge than Andy R, I’m convinced those claiming so don’t watch the sport in general just look at photos of Andy and laugh.
I see it as a stewardship posters like yourself have taken on, nobody can do the job full time nor permanently it has to be a passing of the baton. Their is certainly a recognition between the 5% and that in itself is worth something you’ve just to silence the racket whilst talking amongst buddies and respectable posters every now and then they have to be humiliated for what comes out of their mouth.
Personally now I know I can’t speak for him but I don’t think we’ve seen the last of that Jewish Reptile guy who likes to humiliate posters who support PED cheats, if theirs one thing that riles him it’s PED use in the sport he loves.

This was a huge event last night, it's in all the papers in NYC, here in Dallas, overseas, ESPN, Yahoo etc etc. And guess what? It was on DAZN. Not HBO ( I know HBO doesn't do boxing anymore; do the casuals know?), Shotime, ESPN or FS. If casuals didn't know about the app before, they sur do now.
Big, big, shot in the arm for DAZN. Especially as a Mexican-American won the fight.
Thought I don't think the event (as in the boxing card) was huge, but the result became huge for sure. Just like no one being interested in Wilder/Breazeale but EVERYONE heard about the 1st round KO. I think this has a similar momentum.
It'll help, they still have a ton of quality fighters for their product. Canelo being the biggest, but if AJ doesn't win the rematch, they'll be out of it on the Heavyweight train honestly.
They aren’t guaranteed to get the US TV Rights. Hearn has said the fight will be in the UK, DAZN will therefore have to bid against PBC and ESPN for US International Rights.
Ruiz is one of Haymon’s fighters. Haymon will want that fight on Showtime/FOX in the U.S.
So who knows. DAZN have lost out massive. Joshua-Wilder will have to take place on a PBC Network now that Wilder is the A side in the U.S.
And if Canelo loses to GGG in September what will they do ?
They are also not guaranteed to get the rights to Big US sports rights as the US justice department will likely want to know where that Russian Money is coming from which is ultimately what is funding DAZN
Rough times ahead..
What? Assuming there's a rematch clause, why wouldn't it continue to be with Matchroom and aligned to their channels?
It's not a mandatory. There shouldn't be any bidding required.
I’d like to see Andy out on Cinco, on PBC regardless of contractual stipulations it may be more beneficial to Al Haymon to have the belts dispersed or have Wilder have all of them say over pay Andy more than Hearn would for a rematch, Wilder would really be in the driving seat against everybody then.
Hell Andy could even beat Wilder !!
Contract is already in place though and to be fair Ruiz isn’t going to get a bigger fight then fight AJ (for more money) anyway. If he wins again then he is right up there top5 in the world because he proves it wasn’t a fluke (and 4 knock downs doesn’t suggest it)
Helps DAZN a lot. Couldnt have got a better advertisement. If Joshua won it would have been expected, things carried on as usual. The upset has got everyone talking.

Agreed in the part that people are suddenly talking about the fight and DAZNs name is getting out there more... unfortunately they dont really have any good fights until maybe late July to capitalize on (but you can probably say that about the other two as well). My month subscription is up tomorrow and will not be re-upping until probably Aug/Sept depending on fight schedule.
It would be a lot better for dazn in the American market, if the “American” who just became the unified hw champion wasn’t talking about taking the belts back to Mexico. It would also be better if he wasn’t fat...casual combat sports fans are gonna think hw boxing is a joke if a guy that looks like that can be a champion.
If AJ wins the rematch, it will help. Screw him losing his veneer of invincibility, this fight creates an excitement that hasn't been there for a couple years.
But if AJ loses the rematch? Yeah, that's a disaster.
Andy definitely rules above all on all food related lists
I will never forget the whoopla surrounding Rahman when he pulled his upset.
King for a day......
So you’re not gonna dispute Andy can eat more chicken breast than Wilder ?
Matchroom and Golden Boy are the only companies that really work with DAZN. Ruiz taking out Matchroom's pillar can't help, those heavyweights went with Eddie to try to secure a shot at AJ.
I believe that Anthony Joshua can come back but if he doesn't. I still don't see how it could either hurt and help DAZN because AJ was never a draw here in the U.S. Anyway to begin with. He's has never fought stateside before and doesn't have a huge following or fanbase among the American mainstream crossover audience.
It will help for the rematch but then it depends on the result and what proceeds after that. If Ruiz wins, can DAZN lock him up? If not, then it won't help DAZN that one of their two cash cows loses two consecutive fights and they lose three titles.
But this is why I think DAZN pushes very hard to get the fight in the US. The rematch could do huge numbers. If it happens in the UK though? Won't be as big. But if it states in the contract the rematch is in the UK, then what can DAZN do?
Everyone will want to see the rematch later in the year , that is for sure!

Heartbreaker! Where you been? Actually, wherever it is, it's a much better place than NSB for sure because this place has been fking intolerable. The ass end of awful. If I were smart I would have taken a leave of absence as well.
Anyhow, good to see an honest voice back in the fold.

It should help because of all the buzz this upset is causing, and all the attention a rematch is going to get.
This gives Joshua a much more attractive opponent than he was going to have for his next fight (outside of Wilder.)
DAZN is still having a lot of technical issues, though. People are pissed at them. If they don't get that ironed out quick then it won't matter how good their fights are.
They got earned media. But when people check out the site & see GGG vs Rolls & Andrade vs Sulecki is that going to make them want to subscribe?
Canada aint even behind Rolls.
And lol @ the ER story. I remember cracking jokes to my wife while getting a lumbar puncture. Literally cracked a joke with a two inch needle sticking out of my spine lol
Ouch! Lol. Yea, I walked into the ER bleeding profusely and asked for the presidential suite and just wouldn't stop playing around. Looking back, my friends are like "I thought you lost your mind".
In my physical therapy they use needles to break up scar tissue and I sometimes burst out in laughter when the pain gets too much because it's that quirky response I can't control. AJ got it too.
