I just rewatched that fight last night. Jacobs landed a few good shots, enough to keep Pirog honest, but there was no way he was going to win. Pirog's movement and pressure were just too much.
I hope Jacobs has evolved ENORMOUSLY since then, if he wants to have any chance. Canelo's style is all wrong for him. Especially if Canelo has been able to keep his stamina hopped up with some PEDs.
He should let Pirog fight lie and move on. He was ahead on the cards due to winning the first few rounds, but even that part was questionable. He has limited chance going forward as he was getting embarrassed. If he got up from the KD, which was nowhere near certainty, he would have gotten KTFO for good 10 seconds later.
danny needs to do his excuses with his fists, right now all he is a third time lucky vacant titlist winner with zero defences, ostensibly with a few world class wins and a rightful former place as top contender too.
I thought it was ridiculous the way referee Byrd held Jacobs down the way he did. Struggling, so then he straddles over him pushed him with both hands him back to the canvas. :lol1: There was no reason not to start a 10 count
As far as Pirog- he looked like such a great talent, it's too bad we didn't get to see more.
Pirog's size and reach was causing Jacobs all kinds of problems. Jacobs wasn't too far behind but he was losing the fight.
The stoppage was bad. I would've liked to see if he could've adjusted if he was allowed to continue.
Either way, it seemed to be a learning experience for Jacobs. His chin isn't solid though.
I thought Danny could have got up it was stopped early. He was going to lose most likely but that was the wrong call. The strange part was Byrd asking for his autograph.
Danny was not going to win that fight. Pirog had him figured out that that point. I like Danny but he's got a weak chin and is unlikely to ever find himself as real p4p material. Still, a cool guy with a great story.
It was a close fight to that point but even without that big right hand, Pirog seemed to be confusing Jacobs and taking control. Hard to say though with much confidence that Jacobs couldn't have turned the tide in the very next round, it happens.

Jacobs is right. He was ahead on all three scorecards and he would have beaten the count. Not saying he would have won the fight but Robert Byrd ****ed up by stopping the fight the way he did. It was very reminicent of the Wilder Fury 12th round kd except that Jack Reiss did the right thing and didn't wave it off like Byrd did.
Not sure how they had him ahead. Watching that fight Pirog seemed to be well in control. Manny Steward commentating certainly seemed to think Jacobs was struggling to cope with Pirog's style. He was a very good boxer.
jacobs stop making excuses lol. should've could've would've! jacobs you got knocked the fuk out! It's time to get over it. If you'd have gotten back up pirog would have finished you off! the ref did you a favor by stopping it and not letting pirog take your head off!
according to you the Wilder-Fury fight should have been waved off

That he was going to get up from the knockdown but the ref stopped him.
Didn't mention the fact he was being outboxed up to that point. Pirog was in a different class at that time.
