There are reports that Miller WAS NOT going to get 6.5 million to fight AJ.
Instead, the new reported amount for Miller is 4.875M.
If true, then there is NO WAY that offering Ortiz 5 million was a lowball.
This appears to be verified by Ortiz himself and, more importantly Ortiz's manager Jay Jimenez, who is where the lowball comments originated and who is now extremely busy in full backpedal mode from that statement:
Jimenez called the £3.8m bid a “low ball offer” - but he has now retracted his comments and admitted he got the negotiating all wrong.
“I hope he does ,” Jimenez told Tha Boxing Voice during a brutally honest interview.
“We want the fight. I think there was a misconception.
“I think I jumped the gun when I called it a low ball offer.
“It is our promoter that is low balling him. The one that financially backed us from day one.

Apparently the culprit this time is NOT EDDIE HEARN, but rather Ortiz's promoter, one Jorge Carmenate of Dade Promotions who "believed he could demand more than the initial offer because there was only six weeks until the fight."
I maintained that if Miller was to get 6.5M and Hearn only offered 5M, that was a lowball...but, if Miller was going to get 4.875M and Hearn offered 5M, THAT'S MORE THAN FAIR and Carmenate should be ashamed of himself...and probably fired.
The only good news out of all of this is that the fight is still there to be made.
Let's just hope they reopen communications...but if it doesn't happen, this one is not on Matchroom, Eddie Hearn, or AJ.
This is the fault of Ortiz's camp, specifically his promoter...but everyone has to take that "L" if they blow that kind of payday when they were being dealt with honorably.
This is a team that got made a good offer, thought they were the only show in town, and walked away from it as a bargaining tool.
Then found out that team AJ didn't care if they walked away so they're quickly backpedaling.
$5 million was always a very credible offer. No-one will convince me otherwise.
As a boxing fan I'm now torn. In the short term, I want to see Joshua v Ortiz. But I also wouldn't mind team AJ sending a message that you can't keep walking away from fights or you may not get another offer. That's more of a medium term benefit for boxing fans.
The "let's freeze AJ out" movement just got its first big FU.
By the way, huge balls from AJ to try to make this fight. Of the available contenders, a dangerous southpaw on a few weeks' notice is a big risk. If you ever need it confirmed that this guy is the real deal then this should do it.
I don't see how anyone can cry duck. He's made very credible offers to every fighter in the top 5 now. In a money game he's the one trying to be a sporting champion.
If he's still the same Ortiz who fought deontay then he has a great chance to beat Joshua easy win for Ortiz but if his body wearing down like some suspect then he doesn't have a chance
Still not sure we're getting the straight dope.
If Ortiz were not yet PED test ready, this is exactly the CYA story we would be hearing....or not. At this point, I can't hardly believe anyone.
Honestly think its a little of both. Would love to see Hearn come back again with offer or Ortiz fires this loser promoter but its probably Ruiz or Hunter which is gonna suck
They are all working hard on trying to get all the ped's out of the old man body, he needs to be reasonable cleaned before he can sign, one more failed test for him will be the end of his career.
I for one am hoping that Jimenez pushes Hearn to make a new offer... though i'm doubtful they'll get an improved offer after all this; if I was in Hearn's position I would just offer them the last deal they refused and tell them to take it or leave it. It's not Hearn's fault that Ortiz' promoters are shafting him.
As a boxing fan though I want to see Joshua v Ortiz so hopefully this whole ****show can be rectified. He did make him a new offer of 7 million and Ortiz turned down and wants 10 million. He had said before he would fight AJ for free just to take his titles, He doesn't want to fight AJ so he is pricing himself out of the fight. King Chicken Kong Ortiz.
I know in the past I said Ortiz needs his fair share but at this point in his career I would advise him to take that money don't let the promoters get in the way of taking care of your daughter and your family.conquer these evil promoters buddy
I think Joshua v Ruiz is done for June 1st hopefully nothing is signed and Eddie Hearn sends the last offer in writing

BS, no one put out a statement like he did without knowing the full details of the offers, he was probably backed into a corner and now he had to retract his lowball statement, in the interview Hearn gave about “Exposing” Team Ortiz, he made mention of Jimenez BY name, he said he text him and said you lying bastard! That doesn’t sound like someone that doesn’t know all the details. They are now trying to use Dade promotions as the fall guys, ****k off, you had an opportunity for your fighter, forget about money! Think about the opportunity. Where was dade promotions when Ortiz was paid 500k last year? But when he is being offered 5-7m they want to sudden show up and turn it down? Liars..
It's Eddie Hearn's fault that Jay Jimenez wrongly called the offer a lowball offer! It's Hearn's fault that Luis Ortiz's promoter gave him false information! Now if Hearn doesn't come back with a second offer, after Ortiz and Jimenez now seem keen, that is a clear duck by Anthony Joshua! Oh my God these English muffins are ducking so bad!
lmao this is hilarious so where are people who called out AJ team ?
its ok they can hope AL give him windmill rematch for less than 1 mill $ payday lool
I think that the Ortiz fight is done for sure now. Fat Dan says it's between Ruiz and Bryan so they're probably close to finalized with Ruiz.
Would obviously take some serious grovelling from Jimenez to now make it happen but Hearn did say that Ortiz was Joshua's preferred option so i'm just holding out in hope more than expectation to be honest.

This seems to be on par with caribe promotions as being one of the worse promoters ever.
