Buddy is a very experienced and knowledgeable guy. Just like he turned out to be a good fit for Kovalev, I think McGirt is the right trainer for Golovkin at this point in his career.
Those are sh^tty corrupt judges. Hope Oscar got his money back.
Judges can't be too obvious with their corruption, Byrd was publicly slaughtered for her card, they'd end up with an investigation. There's a skill to passing robbery off even if it insults a hardcore fan's intelligence, Wilder-Fury the latest example.
This wouldn't be a bad idea doe. I don't agree with you that GGG can't win a decision over Canelo (in Vegas or wherever), but even getting close to a stoppage with a KD or two is only gonna help sway things for GGG even if he doesn't stop Canelo so I do think the first fight version of GGG should be the guy who shows up, but he needs to go to the body more so he can swing more late rounds his way as Canelo tires.
Canelo opponents can't win on the cards. Jacobs will probably find that out soon too. They can fight the perfect fight short of stoppage and the best they'll do would be a draw. A new trainer isn't going to change that for Golovkin.
like I stated few months ago. that 6 fight deal, will face nobodies and look good, untill final fight be against Canelo (trilogy). and in the 3rd fight with Canelo, there will be a stoppage by McGirt. GGG is and was done, few years ago. nothing less, nothing more. respect to him though.
I like what McGirt did with Kovalev, but I don't love his overall success rate in big fights.
I think the real goal with a new trainer is getting a guy who can tweak what needs to be tweaked that gives GGG a better chance vs Canelo in the 3rd fight. And I think you want a voice in the corner that is intelligent, strategic & can see the adjustments that are needed during the fight that can keep GGG in the fight if he's behind or distancing himself if he's up.
I dig McGirt from back in the day & as a trainer overall, but I've never been impressed with his cornering so idk if he's THAT guy.
Realistically, there is no being up or distancing oneself for any boxer against Canelo. Opponents can either knock him out, or expect an L on their record. Further adjustments will count for nought to Adalaide Byrd and co.
Real question is whether there is a trainer who can coach GGG to a stoppage victory, answer is probably not. Only once over 24 rounds did GGG look like stopping Canelo who recovered fairly quickly.
Buddy probably wouldn’t take the low ball offer.Fighters get greedy at the end that’s why Dundee left SRL corner these new payment plans don’t seem to work out to well.
